I grew up in a Southern Baptist household. In my late 30's a light bulb started to come on. It had been there all the time, but I was afraid to allow it to shine because I was afraid "God was watching and knowing my every thought.". I was taught it was wrong to even question anything. I was super involved in the church, in a small South Georgia town. It took some untangling, but I managed to leave the church and I was thrilled to have my mind cleansed of all that nonsense. The problem is, it's all around me and now I even work in a church preschool. I'm happy to have broken free from the indoctrination and I'll be even happier when I can truly be myself when I work in a secular environment.
