I'll be frank...I despise religion. I am an atheist and perhaps even anti-theist one may say. Most specifically monotheistic dogmatic religion. Paradoxically, I also find it very interesting from a psychological perspective. Because of this, I do also have a deep interest in altered states of consciousness (which I believe some religious or spiritual beliefs may arise instead of pure blind faith because of this, but are a false connection based completely on the subconscious).
Many intense religious experiences can be caused by taking certain types of drugs that induce hallucinations or by simply practicing deep meditation which is scientifically proven to alter brain chemistry.
