I never felt that capitalizing a word lent it any reverence or respect. Just as I continue to capitalize peoples names, many of them not worthy of my respect. At the same time, I do not feel a need to intentionally disrespect other's beliefs. To each their own.

Actually this is totally untrue. Language (& writing) and living things, and as long as 90% of the population decides it's true, it is. Right the way back to Shakespeare spelling his name 5 different way, to MacDonalds changing our use of the verb "like" by using it in the present continuous (a huge no-no until recently) - you know hear people saying "I'm loving your dress". (English teacher!)

When my extremely active 92 year old grandmother was crossing a street and a lorry ran her over, it crushed her legs and would have meant she'd be incapacitated and in a wheelchair for the few remaining years of her life. My mother told me the doctor at the hospital asked her if she wanted her "resuscitated". My mother had the courage to say no.
