Bio

I'm never sure how to start these things or what to include and what not, but here it goes.

I was adopted (I did recently find my birth parents, but that is another story) and am the oldest of four. I have lived in Maryland, Florida, North Carolina, and now Massachusetts.

I'm currently an I.T. Director for a small college prep school where I also teach some programming and mentor the robotics club.

My hobbies are bicycling, playing ukulele, reading, cooking, bowling, darts and hanging out with my 11 year old granddaughter. I'm trying to get back into running. I've run a couple marathons in the past, but will settle for 5 and 10 Ks now. I am a fan of sci-fi, more Star Trek than Star Wars and. I'm a sucker for a good time travel story or series.

Full Bio

I'm a omnivore currently following a ketogenic, aka low carb high fat diet. I had previously been a vegetarian for many years. I'm a big coffee drinker, the kind that likes to grind whole beans. I used to prefer a good micro-brewed beer and still will occasionally, but since going keto I've switched to dry wines and bourbons.

I did not attend church as a kid. My mom was Lutheran and my dad was a Catholic, so they really could not decide on a church and were not particularly religious themselves. I went to vacation bible school during the summer a few times with friends, but that was it. Then in high school I got involved in Young Life, a para-church christian youth group. Went to a week long camp and came back a born again evangelical. I went to college and studied religion and philosophy and was an active volunteer in Young Life. I even studied the Greek New Testament.

I was a Methodist youth minister for a while and married the pastor's daughter in college. The youth ministry and the marriage did not last for long, about 2-3 years. I was trying to be who I thought I should be instead of just being myself. Also, while religion was usually emotionally satisfying, intellectually I had to rationalize or overlook various aspects of it. Eventually, I could not longer live with the contradictions and non-sense or be associated with the likes of Jerry Falwell, Tammy Faye Baker, and Pat Robinson who were in the news at the time.

I looked at Unitarianism and Buddhism, but found them to be lacking and having similar issues. I finally did a 180 degree turn about 20 years ago and have not looked back.

I did remarry after my divorce with the pastor's daughter. That marriage lasted 23 years. Over time we just grew apart and decided we would be happier apart than remaining together.

My goal for retirement or maybe before then is to live full-time in an RV, camper van, or converted school bus (aka skoolie) and travel the country.

I'm more of a dog person than a cat person, but I get along with both.
