Grew up during the 50's & 60's outside New Orleans with a Catholic mom, Presbyterian father, & Baptist friends. Attended the 1st public school to desegregate then was taken north at age 11 when parents divorced (mom went north - dad stayed south). Ever since I could remember, I felt like a "Stranger in a Strange Land." In hind-site, I discovered I just had a good b.s. detector. The hypocrisy I saw and experienced growing up both baffled and motivated me. I ended up being the only person in my immediate family to graduate from college (Sociology + History), have liberal ideologies and work in the Social Fields. Father is gone now and the rest of my family has converted to Evangelicalism. What I hear from them and see in the world right now disturbs me greatly. Always appreciated like- minded folks but more so now.
