Hicks66 comments on Apr 12, 2018:
Taking turns behind the wheel of a heavily customized armored Econoline packed to the rafters with state of the art weapons. We cruise the rain soaked streets righting wrongs and delivering the innocent from certain harm. All the time looting the ill gotten gains of evil doers. After a night of good work, we shed our armour and seek each other's embrace. The darkness scented with sweat and spent cordite. Then a shared bath.

Hicks66 comments on Apr 24, 2018:
Forgive the biblical allusion but you're in the lion's den. It could be worse though. RCs accept old Earth origins and descent of man through evolution. Two things that hold them back are transubstantiation and exorcism. If you don't consider these acceptable foibles then you have to question your being there in the first place. But if you can focus on the common ground you share with your RC peers I think they'll remember you in a better light after you graduate. Then, if you are intent, would be a better time to prosthelytize.

I don't know if I have the energy to keep up with some young go-getting lass. And I'm not hoping for a live-in nurse either. On the flip side, I dunno. Can I get back to you?

Men don't like intelligent women.
Hicks66 comments on Feb 9, 2019:
I will not dispute the article's conclusion. But I see no real support for it either. The single cited study is behind a pay wall. I'm too cheap so it's veracity stays hidden to me. The article seems to be an indictment of "male fragility". I would posit that a strong capable woman has no need of a frail, emotional, dull and needy man. But swap the roles and the capable man would want to protect (dominate?) the willowy needy woman. It's an easier row to hoe for fulfilling a procreational agenda. For the capable ambitious woman, there are greater horizons. Motherhood might be but a small priority at the time she is making her sexual selection. It might affect how much effort she wants to devote to a relationship. Studies and career are time consuming for the genuinely ambitious. So two capable ambitious people would find it difficult to align schedules and the resulting frustration leads to second thoughts and cold feet.
I pointed the same thing out to my dad, a Pentecostal Minister.

How many here never had religion or never was a believer?
Hicks66 comments on Sep 8, 2019:
I was brought up RC. It was pretty regimented up until my confirmation. Catechism and regular Sunday service along with the Lent thing and confession. Shortly after that things got muddled. I was just mouthing the Creed and Gloria... thought the flood was bullshite and all the other stuff never really had any impact. Mom started switching churches because of choir politics. Then we just stopped going. So even though I spent 16 years going through the motions. During that time I never really believed any of it.
