Is anyone else stumbling on the technology highway?
DharmaBum50 comments on Jul 23, 2022:
Oh hell, yeah. When 3G was "disappeared" earlier this year, it made my while-on-the-road-only flip phone obsolete and forced me to get a smartphone as a replacement. @DharmaBum50 I had to get a new phone a few months ago, and because of the Pandemic, I ordered it online and had to handle the transition myself. I use my phone for WFH, all my calls come in to my computer and then to my cell phone. So call quality is imperative. I had to call my cell provider because my calls were horrible. When the caller can't understand what you're saying it's a huge problem. I had to call the cell provider at least twice, and finally I got it to where it is good call quality again. When it isn't I have to restart my phone. It's annoying, but workable. I'm kinda proud of myself that I didn't have to go into the store to get it figured out. And if it is an option next time, I will go to the store and let them handle it, life is too short for that heartburn.

@DharmaBum50 For decades I kept an up to date Rand McNally Road Atlas in all our cars. Then at one point I was printing directions to someplace new with MapQuest. Then I went to San Antonio, TX, and my flight arrived about midnight. I got my rental and proceeded to try to find my way to my hotel in pitch darkness at 65 MPH or more. That is when I decided I would get a GPS. I still have two old GPS units in my glove box. They haven't been pulled out in years!

@LiterateHiker My son in law chided me for my "overuse" of google maps. Sorry dude, if it is in part of town I don't usually go to, I'm pulling out my cell phone, (and once I upgrade my car it will be on my dash.) Google maps not only shows me the way, it shows me the traffic, and it shows me my time to beat. Not that I need the encouragement, but I like getting to where I'm going as quickly as possible.

Never mind that they actually are not "good" xians, but they can't quite grasp that concept. My ex's addiction to faux news and his xian website is a huge contributing factor to our divorce, but in his mind I am fallen and that is why I initiated the divorce. The pandemic really hurt lots of churches. Those butts not in the pews were not sending in their tithes either. When that basket or plate is passed there is that silent judgement (and sometimes not so silent) on whether or not you put enough into the pot. Well, you ain't there in person, judgement is much harder to enforce. And then lots of families really liked the lack of pressure on Sunday mornings to get everyone up, dressed, fed, and out the door. Plus that savings of money helped...

I generally do not interfere with kidlets and their dad, however I did suggest to my daughter that she set boundaries with her dad. I don't want to see SIL with a heart attack. I suggest no discussion of religion or politics in the car, and if her dad can't do that, then he can drive himself. It had not occurred to her to set boundaries. @Petter I try to buy permanent press clothing, but I also prefer natural fibers. Generally my clothing goes from washer to dryer to hanger. Most of the time any wrinkles fall out before I wear them again. If I really need to look sharp I might do a touch up with an iron, that hasn't been needed for such a long time. I try not to throw away clothing unless they are too worn to wear again, most of mine that are in decent shape are donated to charity. I realize most charities ship it overseas where it clogs up their system. Most days I'm in jeans and T shirts, it doesn't matter what I look like, I WFH. Since I've been mostly WFH for two years, I have worn some of my clothing to the point they were only good for the trash bin. That makes my frugal heart feel good.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
