DENIZEN.

As a child, I was a denizen of the library.
HippieChick58 replies on Jul 25, 2021:
As a kid I went to the library every weekend and spent hours there. The library was within walking distance and my stepmother would not have been caught dead in one, so I got a respite from her. I don't think I ever saw her read a book or newspaper. Or a recipe. The library was my haven.

It is my plan that my children and grandchildren will take these in when I'm no longer capable, and that they will enjoy them, use them, and cherish them; and pass them on to their children and grands. I have made quilts for each of the grands, and their parents. And I hope we have one more grand in the works soon, so there is another quilt that will be needed. I made a quilt for the grandson when he moved into his "big boy" bed. His mom is planning for him to take that quilt with him when he moves into a dorm.

@TomMcGiverin My ex used to tell that joke. There was a huge flood, the old man couldn't get out of his house. A neighbor came by with a boat but the old man said, "Nah, God will provide." Later he moved to the second floor and the fire department came by in a boat, and the old man said, "nah, God will provide." Later he had to move to the roof, the National Guard came by with a helicopter and the old man said, "Nah, God will provide." His house washed away and the man died. He woke up in front of the Pearly Gates and confronted God. "How could you?" God said, "I sent two boats and a helicopter, what more did you want?"

HippieChick58 replies on Jun 13, 2021:
@rainmanjr women have always desired and needed pockets. Men decided women shouldn't have ways of hiding what they were carrying in case they decided to carry money and make a get away. And then there are the designers who decided pockets would mess up the lines and make us look lumpy so we didn't deserve them. I'm sorry, f**k that. I want my pockets and I don't give a rip what my lines look like. I'm not here to be visually pleasing to anyone. "make their mate carry things for them..." I seem to be missing a mate, I carry my own damn crap, and did when I had a mate too. So many times in women's apparel pockets have been mostly for show, not for function. I can sew, and I fixed that, damn the designer. I should have gotten a rebate on the price of the slacks. Handbags suck, have you ever seen a crook grab a woman's handbag and make a run for it? @The-Krzyz I grew up in Nebraska, I saw Wizard of Oz every year throughout my childhood. We used to stand in the yard and watch tornado activity, only going inside if the rain got crazy. I have lived all over, including Kansas, and now I'm back in Nebraska. Kansas history is more tumultuous than Nebraska's, I don't know it as well but I know a bit of it. Bleeding Kansas and John Brown and all the civil war unrest. I fear for the future for Kansas and Nebraska. Our plains are so dependent upon the Ogallala aquifer which is under attack from potential oil spills due to the pipelines, but also just over use.
A gracious good Sunday morning from Kansas.
The-Krzyz comments on Jun 6, 2021:
One of three U.S. states I have yet to visit. I had 2020 plans to do so, but Pandemic caution led me to postpone. Lot of history out there on the Plains.
HippieChick58 replies on Jun 6, 2021:
I grew up reading the lore of the plains. Authors like Willa Cather and Bess Streeter Aldrich. Willa Cather referred to the area as "nothing but land." It is truly miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles. And in some places even more miles!

I don’t want Trump dead. I want him tried and convicted for his crimes. Then I want him locked in prison for the rest of his life. Given that, I’m in no hurry to see him dead.
HippieChick58 replies on Jun 5, 2021:
I just want him in a condition where he has no influence over anyone or anything. Ideally suffering with something gross and debilitating. A long, slow, tiresome decline would be fitting.
Was I too harsh with this guy on a dating site?
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 5, 2021:
FWIW I don't think you were too harsh. Life is just too short to not be direct. When I was on dating sites I wouldn't even consider contact from someone wearing a plain white T shirt or holding a dead fish. For me, good ol' boys need not apply. We've all got our triggers, that was mine.
HippieChick58 replies on Jun 5, 2021:
@JackPedigo Yeah, but this dude likely wasn't a German. I found the Germans very friendly. I was also in Bavaria which has a reputation for being friendlier than the north. And it was also more than 30 years ago. When you're on a dating site you want to look approachable. Most dating sites I've been on gave tips for good pictures. This guy seems like he skipped those.

I have 3 accounts and do online banking daily. Imagine the shell game of trying to figure out where the pea is, and that is how I do my accounts. All must balance and figure properly for this to work well. I pay by card and carry very little money.
HippieChick58 replies on May 28, 2021:
@DenoPenno I check my bank daily and other accounts more or less monthly sometimes more often. I keep a spreadsheet of my financial picture. In fact my goal for this weekend is to tidy up the spreadsheet and close out the month of May. I haven't had a paycheck for two months, so I really don't live paycheck to paycheck or I'd be dead. However, I started a new job this week, so that will help my cash flow, and my health. Too young for Medicare, I need a job to have medical benefits.
