My personal opinion is that counseling can't hurt. It can help you sort out the confusion. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Good luck to you, it's been quite a journey.

Do men have a duty to provide?
HippieChick58 comments on Aug 7, 2018:
In this day and age it is the need and responsibilities for all parties to contribute to the family well being. You are working for your future to provide a better life for you and your son. Why isn't your ex getting off her ass and working for her kid? Stay the course, it will be better for you in the long run. When you are in a better place you can contribute to your kid.
@Donotbelieve: the other day you posted a pic of your kitty, Chomper.
HippieChick58 comments on Aug 7, 2018:
Poor baby!! Lucky baby!! My heart cat that passed about 18 months ago was blind due to a congenital eye condition. Her eyes got so bad I asked the vet to just take them out. She was blind about 5 years and I moved 3 times with her. She always found the litter box, my bed, where ever I was , and food. I had a roommate for a few months that was legally blind. She used to cadge food from him and he was soft enough to give in to her.
I am 100% against circumcision it's a form of religious child abuse no different to FGM.
HippieChick58 comments on Aug 7, 2018:
When I was pregnant with #3, I discussed circumcision with my ex/father of my children. His opinion was that because he was baby should be. It became a moot issues cuz #3 was another girl. I would not choose to do it for my own child. However, my first ex was not circumcised and not into good person hygiene. ICK.

Does religion equal goodness
HippieChick58 comments on Aug 7, 2018:
OMG, you look at the headlines. The xians screaming at people of color, worried about sharing a stall next to a trans person, worried about gays adopting babies or getting married and on and on and on. Aside from the fact I know some truly great Christians who really embody the best of humankind, I'm not too impressed with Xian generosity, kindness, gentleness, or intelligence. So, no religion is about the opposite of goodness.
This explains it. Lol.

A combination of hydrogen peroxide and dish soap will remove stains from carpet. Saturate the stain, put a paper towel over it,and weight it down and it will suck that stain up. I was treating my stains one morning. My dog knocked the weight over and ate the paper towel. I didn't notice, and then we walked down the street to the mail box. Enroute we encountered a huge garter snake. Chief was so excited! His first snake buddy. Then the cleaning mixture hit... and he ran into the grass and hurled his toenails up. When he was done he came back to the snake, took a sniff, and backed off. It was sooo funny, but I'm sure Chiefy didn't think so.
OK.

‘Too Little Too Late’: Bankruptcy Booms Among Older Americans
HippieChick58 comments on Aug 6, 2018:
For a rapidly growing share of older Americans, traditional ideas about life in retirement are being upended by a dismal reality: bankruptcy. The signs of potential trouble — vanishing pensions, soaring medical expenses, inadequate savings — have been building for years. Now, new research sheds light on the scope of the problem: The rate of people 65 and older filing for bankruptcy is three times what it was in 1991, the study found, and the same group accounts for a far greater share of all filers. Driving the surge, the study suggests, is a three-decade shift of financial risk from government and employers to individuals, who are bearing an ever-greater responsibility for their own financial well-being as the social safety net shrinks. The transfer has come in the form of, among other things, longer waits for full Social Security benefits, the replacement of employer-provided pensions with 401(k) savings plans and more out-of-pocket spending on health care. Declining incomes, whether in retirement or leading up to it, compound the challenge. Cheryl Mcleod of Las Vegas filed for bankruptcy in January after struggling to keep up with her mortgage payments and other expenses. “I am 70, and I am working for less money than I ever did in my life,” she said. “This life stuff happens.” As the study, from the Consumer Bankruptcy Project, explains, older people whose finances are precarious have few places to turn. “When the costs of aging are off-loaded onto a population that simply does not have access to adequate resources, something has to give,” the study says, “and older Americans turn to what little is left of the social safety net — bankruptcy court.” “You can manage O.K. until there is a little stumble,” said Deborah Thorne, an associate professor of sociology at the University of Idaho and an author of the study. “It doesn’t even take a big thing.” The forces at work affect many Americans, but older people are often less able to weather them, according to Professor Thorne and her colleagues in the study. Finding, and keeping, one job is hard enough for an older person. Taking on another to pay unexpected bills is almost unfathomable. Bankruptcy can offer a fresh start for people who need one, but for older Americans it “is too little too late,” the study says. “By the time they file, their wealth has vanished and they simply do not have enough years to get back on their feet.”

Nope, I am hanging on to my job as long as I can. My manager and I have decided I am not working out, so she is going to see what is available in the company that I can move to. They do want to keep me and it is a big company. If nothing is available they will give me a few weeks to find something else. I could end up unemployed in a few weeks. I do have some savings and I'm over 60 so could hit my retirement savings. But it is scary as hell.
What is something in your life that is a point of constant anxiety/stress?
HippieChick58 comments on Aug 6, 2018:
My job. For two years I've struggled with it. Now we've come to the conclusion I need a new position. My manager is going to reach out to her peers in other departments. Either I will make a lateral move, or be out of the company. I can deal with a bit of unemployment, but it is kind of a relief and scary at the same time.

On Marriage he wrote: Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

What Change would you like to see in Politics?
HippieChick58 comments on Aug 5, 2018:
I'd like to see an end to the two party system. It does not serve the people adequately. There are so many other shade of political affiliation that needs to be represented. We need to end gerrymandering. We need shorter election seasons. We need to get big money and private influence out of politics, let campaigns be run with tax money, spending limits, and total transparency. We need to end the electoral college, one person one vote. Corporations are not people and should not have a vote. Lobbyists should be banned. Congress needs a heck of a pay cut and total transparency of all donations.
We've a bunch of these guys in our garden this year:

You sound like you are surrounded by naysayers and really crappy people. Just a suggestion, but filter what you discuss with people who have a track record of being unsupportive. I know it is hard, but there are not many people I share very much with outside people I really trust. For me, that is kids, my sister, and one GF. And one of my kids gets a strongly edited version because of her living circumstances. How do you define "being in a relationship/" If you have been with someone for an extended period of time that is a relationship. If you've lived with someone but not married them, you've been in a relationship.
I knew it.
