HippieChick58 comments on Apr 24, 2018:
I spent the day with my oldest daughter, her husband and son. She just gave birth on Saturday, and she has been having panic and anxiety attacks for the past couple of weeks. And not sleeping. Baby is doing lots of sleeping, but not eating. So I got activated on Grammy duty to help out. I know from experience it is hard to slow your breathing down when you're agitated, and she proved it today. The good news is she is getting help, all the doctors involved are communicating. And I kept telling her it does get better, it does get easier. Even if Junior goes on formula it doesn't mean you have failed, it means you chose what is best for him at the time and that is a win. It isn't how you planned it, but reality seldom is. You change plans and find your way, and you will find your way.
How many of us are in complicated situations?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 24, 2018:
I'm single and alone, my kids are grown. I have had some struggles, not as many now. It isn't perfect, but it's been far worse. I don't know that mine is really complicated.

I see a few members here I am unfamiliar with.
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 24, 2018:
Partly I see it as a timing issue. Most of the people you see frequently are people who are on about the same time you are, and comment on things you are interested in. But I know the feeling you have, where did they come from and how did the get here without me noticing. I just figured my memory is going ;)

I was early 20s, in Okinawa in the Army, working rotating shift work. It was like all the family back in the states decided out of site out of mind. Christmas season, I think I got a card. Then when I was married for over 20 years and the ex made it plain he put time on his "christian" website ahead of time with me.
Cant compare to a real physical exchange of affection ,however, sometimes that's not always ...

How often, or when do you feel like you need to exercise the old "suspension of disbelief"?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 23, 2018:
Often enough, or more than too often. When I was active on dating sites I'd have a gut feeling that it was a scammer. I'd go along to see what the hook was. I gave that up not too long ago. I decided I'd seen it all, heard it all, and if nothing changed then nothing would change. So I changed, I dropped out.

HippieChick58 comments on Apr 22, 2018:
My kids are all within half an hour of me and there are now two grandchildren. My kids grew up not really knowing their grandparents, especially my folks due to ex's job (military) and my mom passed when I was a kid. I want to know my grandchildren and be close to spend lots of time with them. And then there is that job thing, I don't want to have to find a new job, it's bad enough before 60, I don't think it gets better. And I had a long distance relationship once. When it was good it was amazing, and when it broke apart it was very very bad. The distance killed it.
Upon reflection, I feel that I was harsh with all of my comments condemning posts about problem ...

Ladies, what are your biggest hurdles when meeting and connecting with men?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 22, 2018:
Not getting any responses from men in my area. I get scammers who I've never met in person, but they love me, and then they have trouble and ask for money because they have no one else to ask. Aside from that, generally, I'm a liberal atheist in a conservative fairly religious state. I'm not slim, and I'm not 25. Or I'm meeting guys that want a sugar mama. And I'm not willing to relocate and not willing to do long distance.
Should I give to Goodwill?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 22, 2018:
Goodwill has a reputation for not paying their workers fairly and the CEO lives a pretty cushy life. My suggestion is a google search of organizations in your area that accept donations of clothing for refugees or poor, or otherwise disadvantaged. There are a few in my area that are not connected to any church.

HippieChick58 comments on Apr 22, 2018:
My daughter and her husband moved into an old house that had been rehabbed about a year ago. Then they thought they saw mouse droppings.Their uncoordinated 9 year old female cat proved to be an excellent hunter. She can't jump from the floor to a stool with anything that looks like grace, and is the most stranger aggressive cat I've ever met; but she can catch mice.

Should Religion Be Taught in Schools?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 21, 2018:
I think religion is so imbeded in the culture that a class on Comparative Religions, World Religions, or Literacy of Religions needs to be taught. Look at all the religions of the world, compare and contrast. We need to be aware of all belief systems to respect all other peoples and so we can make informed critical decisions. Just like learning freaking Algebra. I sat through Algebra more than once and it never changed what I believed.

Are All of Those Oils Really Helping People?
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 20, 2018:
I do find some have merit. I needed a root canal and Oil of Cloves killed the pain so I could sleep for about 5 hours. Lavender oil also helps me sleep and calms me. Other oils have other properties. There is merit, but it isn't going to be a dramatic effect, except for the oil of cloves. The numbing agent the dentist used before he injected novacaine into my gums tasted just like the oil of cloves.

I was in Okinawa in 1977ish, and woke up one night experiencing my first earthquake. Years later in St. Louis in the 20th story of a building at a Beni Hana noticed my wine sloshing in my glass. The New Madrid fault was shaking. Later in the Tacoma area I saw the library books shifting on shelves in a library. I was playing Bridge with a group that included senior citizens and I was wondering how we were going to be able to get them out of there with all those books. No biggie, just a rumble. I lived through typhoons on Okinawa, and OMG so many tornadoes and blizzards in the Mid West. My house in Overland Park Kansas was hit by lightning in 1999. That was a shocker in so many ways. I lived on the East coast for a while and we'd watch the hurricanes playing around, though none ever hit where we were.

What is your number one favorite food? I love Indian.
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 19, 2018:
My overwhelming preference is Japanese, however having lived all over and visited many places I am game for almost every ethnicity. I've had Ethiopian food in DC, it was FABULOUS! For Mother's day the girls are taking me to the Indian Oven. I'm not ready to eat insects yet, at least not deliberately. The Cuban restaurant nearby just closed and we were sad to see it go. The only thing I don't go for is hot spicy, but I'm good with trying new food always.
Something me and my mom dreamed of and manifested into reality! Two raised beds! (8 foot by 4 ...
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 19, 2018:
I have started several avocados indoors. I had a 4 foot tall tree for a while. The trouble is, I live in Nebraska and I can't keep it outside. Where I live now has very little natural light indoors, so I gave up on the avocado trees, under duress. Flowers are good for gardens. Read about companion planting. Marigolds are good for tomatoes. And some flowers are edible or have medicinal properties.
Good night all.

You're a man after my own heart. I have been shrinking the grass in my yard, grass is a waste of time and resources. I have two 4x4 raised beds right now. I have a back yard with a huge slope. If I had the finances I'd have it terraced and plant less labor intensive stuff and more food. As it is anything besides grass that is planted now washes toward the house. I am hoping in a couple more weeks I will be able to plant my tomatoes. 27 degress this morning.
I have planted tomato seeds, and weeded a lot its still quite changeable weather here in Ireland ...

I know how hard it is to send them to the Rainbow Bridge. When the time is right, do it for her. When she no longer has quality of life. When my old girl was near the end we had a very nice sunny day and I took her out in the grass in the sunshine. She was blind, but she enjoyed the smells on the breeze and the warmth of the sun. I delayed her end so my daughters could be there, it was important to them to be there at the end. I think she had a good death. She had a wonderful life. She was and forever will be my heart cat.
