What are some things you’re not able to tolerate as you get older?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 11, 2018:
I rarely answer when the doorbell rings if I don't know who is coming. If I don't expect someone to show up then they are not invited and likely to be selling something, and I don't have time to waste. I don't read many magazines, I am not ready to sell my house, I have a fairly new roof, and I don't want cookies/candy/popcorn/gift wrap or other such crap from your school. I rarely wear cosmetics anymore. I'm not horrible looking but I'm also not trying to impress anyone. I have less tolerance for extremes of cold and heat. Kinda sucks, but at least I can put on more clothing in winter to keep warm. I don't tolerate crap from sales clerks in stores. I had a cashier comment on something I was buying, I first asked for an explanation of the comment, then I asked for the manager to come over. Then I emailed corporate. I hope it was a good learning experience for the cashier. How is that for starters.
Where to start with these idiots.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 11, 2018:
That makes sense, A woman/girl who knows her own self and self worth is more likely to own her own desire and know what she wants. A "good girl" is likely to go along just to be a good girl. I was a good girl for a while. I'm so glad I got over that s**t.
Tips for dealing with anxiety?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 11, 2018:
I feel your pain, I have had anxiety and panic attacks for too long. I have a bottle of essential oils for anxiety/panic that I keep on my desk and use as needed. I drink teas with Valerian, chamomile, passion flower, and/or lavender. Can you identify what is causing the anxiety? Mine gets ugly when my work load gets out of control. Get some books on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and check your community for low cost/no cost counseling. In Omaha the Methodist Health System has counselors on sliding scale or free. When I was unemployed I used that service.
Legalize it?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
I have never met an angry pot smoker (back in my day we called them stoners, my kids tell me I shouldn't use that term.) I have met and dealt with angry drunks. I don't like angry people. I think it should be legalized, taxed, regulated, and enjoyed. If you want to make the drive I will share.
What is the value of money?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
Money is an agreed upon medium of exchange. It represents the amount of time I spend at work that I can exchange for stuff I think I need, food, shelter, movie tickets. Money is a tool, it has no characteristics of being good or bad. It can be used for good or bad, just like a hammer can.
Is everyone feeling sad about not having a romantic partner on Valentines Day?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
I have no interest in providing extra money to retailers. Vday is a made up holiday that has no meaning to me. When I was in a relationship I did not need to be told that a certain date had certain obligations. As a single person I am not diminished in any way not having a partner. My worth as a person is not measured by bling on my finger or relationship status. However, I will go out the day after and stock up on half price chocolate to keep in my office to share with my fellow minions.

I like the idea of bowing, but in the US that could come off very weird. However, it is never wrong to fall back on cultural norms. In the US go for a handshake, even if they deflect you won't be wrong. Fist bump among friends. Keep your eyes mostly on the face of the person you are greeting. When in doubt, ask.

Vegan vs non-vegan diet for babies
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
My kids did not eat peas or lima beans at my house because I loathe them. Their father's parents introduced my kids to those veggies. Was that child abuse? Well, I think so :) but not really. I fed my kids how I fed myself. As a parent you HAVE to impose your will on your child it is called parenting. This is why we have so many kids with no manners running around because the parents are afraid of crushing junior. Kids are resilient, they survive and hopefully have had the shit knocked out of them and grow up to be responsible adults.
What is your favourite thing to do on the weekend when it is pouring down with rain outside?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
Where I live we have snow, and single digit temperatures on the Fahrenheit scale so Celcius is about negative 10. I'm not going outside unless I have to. I have 8 or 9 books from the library that are waiting to be read. I have a quilt in progress for the new grandbaby that will be here in May, I have some delicious teas. I have no shortage of stuff to do, even if it is Netflix and chill.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
I've known so many children abused by priests, it is such an abuse of trust. When I was a child we lived next door to a house owned by the Catholic Church where the Bishop of the Archdioceses lived. The Bishop when I was a child was a very nice man who always talked with us when we were outside (which was always when the sun was shining). He lived with his biological sisters and they were sweet and kind. After he retired the new guy liked his luxury and had no time for the neighbors. Logically I know all priests don't molest children, but today I wouldn't leave my child or grandchild alone with a priest for a moment.

Living alone
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
When I split with my ex my youngest daughter moved with me to an apartment. She lived with me through her senior year of HS and into her first year of college. Sometime in there she decided to move to her dad's. She did not handle it well, kinda snuck out on me after I signed a new lease. When that lease was up I moved to a smaller place, and then I moved to where I am now in 2012. I had a roommate for about 6 weeks, strange girl. Then I had a renter for almost a year and a half. He was a friend in a hard place, legally blind and homeless. He really wanted to be my boyfriend but I didn't feel that way. He found a girl friend and moved in with her. So I've lived here totally alone except for kitties since September 2015. I don't mind being alone except for when something breaks or I need another pair of hands. And my kids are not that far away.

People waste so much energy trying to make everyone just like them, If you don't fit into my tiny little box of what is acceptable I am going to eviscerate you. That reminds me of a joke about a Baptist feller who didn't like the new preacher, so a group of like minded individuals broke off to form their own church, Of course it was not smooth going so a splinter group broke off. And they disagreed so the man and his wife decided they'd worship at home. A friend visited one fine Sunday to share worship and asked where the man's wife was. The man replied "oh, we couldn't agree so she worships downstairs."
Which religions have to most to offer the world?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
The problem with religion is to be a religion they require belief in a supernatural, the definition being: the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. I don't believe in the supernatural so I have no interest in doing an in depth study of fantasy.

What makes people read.
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 9, 2018:
My oldest was read to frequently from the start. When she was 3ish she would ask to have 5 or 6 books read to her, and then toddle off to her room and "reread" them. When she was 5, the summer before Kindergarten I bought an American Girls book for her from a museum gift shop while we were on a trip. I thought daddy could read it to her as a bedtime story. She read it before we got to the hotel. I didn't believe her, and she proceeded to give me the details of the story. For those of you who don't know, that book is recommended for third grade readers. I don't remember not being able to read. I also remember in 2nd grade being so engrossed in a book I did not hear my teacher call on me. All my kids are readers. I have a stack of library books in my bedroom right now waiting to be read. According to GoodReads.com I read about 50 books last year. I read because I love it. I read to learn, I read to escape. I read anything in print that is put in front of my eyes. Yes, I read license plates.

If freedom is simply being able to do what you want, are animals freer than humans?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 8, 2018:
My kitten decided the garage was a cool place to explore. Luckily the garage door was closed and she didn't any further. Now her freedom has been curtailed, I'm very vigilant when going in and out of the garage to keep her away. She has the freedom of the house except for several rooms shut off to her. So she isn't really free. She doesn't have to work to earn her keep, except for amusing me, but that is play for her. When I was a child my grandfather told me that when Robinson Caruso was alone on his island he could fire his weapon in any direction he wanted to, he had total freedom. When Friday showed up RC's freedoms were curtailed. He could not longer fire his weapon in Friday's direction. Therefore our freedoms end where the rights and freedoms of another human's begin. My first answer to your question is no, Freedom is not simply being able to do what you want. It depends on what you want to do. Your freedom cannot infringe on my freedom. And Miss Zelda, she's free to do whatever she wants to do as long as it is within the parameters of what I allow her to do.

IRREGARDLESS!! To me it screams I'm too damn ignorant to know it isn't a word. And if you're writing and use U R I will have a stroke. Or if you use your when you mean you're. Yeah, I am a grammar Nazi.
How real does the 7 year itch, figure in you life ?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 7, 2018:
Nope, I was married for over 25 years. I had one long term relationship after that lasted 4ish years. I've moved 23 times in my life, and after a few years in a place I begin thinking of maybe it is time to move, then I take a nap and that feeling passes. So, no 7 year itch for me.
When you are feeling down, lonely, unwanted.
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 7, 2018:
Thanks, that is very uplifting.
How Christians Are Controlled
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 7, 2018:
Most pastors are motivational speakers and they indoctrinate their congregation. That is why regular attendance is encouraged. Sales managers use the same tactics.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
