Goddamnit! I just realized it's my birthday!.
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 1, 2018:
Happy Birthday! I just turned 60 in January, in fact pointed out to Admin that my age had not changed on my profile, they fixed it. I NEVER lie about my age, I'm damn proud of it. First, I don't look 60. Second, my mom never made it to 60 so I relish every year, every day that I get. Third, what the hell, age is only a number, it isn't WHO I am, just a reflection of the number of hears I've walked on this earth.

What are 5 useless facts about you?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 28, 2018:
1. I am the 4th out of six children, first daughter. It was like the folks had a family of boys then a family of girls. 2. Of my 5 siblings, one has been married to the same person for over 30 years, one is a felon, one is a deadbeat dad and we have no idea where he is. One is a disabled vet, one is junkyard dog mean, and then there's me. 3. I make my own toothpaste (yes, mine has charcoal in it) and make my own deodorant, soap, lip balm, and other personal care items. 4. I cannot give blood in the US and haven't been able to for over 25 years. I lived in Germany in the 80s, and ate German cooked foods. I could be a carrier of Cruezfeldt Jakob disease, an acute spongiform encephalopahty. IOW mad cow. The baby I gave birth to in Germany CAN give blood in the US. Not fair. And if it is going to affect me it is going to start any time now. 5. My dad's baby brother married my mom's baby sister. So I had a double aunt and uncle and 2 double cousins.
Hello everyone! I went to get my haircut and got butchered! Why don't hairdressers do what you ask...
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 28, 2018:
My hair is fine and very curly, think poodle. Doesn't matter how the stylist cuts it, it is going to look different each time I blow it out, IF I blow it out. I keep it short, just faster to deal with.

Do you prefer showers or baths?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 28, 2018:
I don't shower daily as my skin dries out so dang fast, getting older sux. I wash my hair when I shower, days I don't shower I wet it down. It's short, fine, and curly like a poodle and sleeping on it makes it weird. I wet it and let it re curl or dry it straighter (it never gets totally straight without products and lots of work, no time for that). I do like occasional baths, usually with Epsom salts, essential oils and some moisturizing oils. They are very relaxing. I regret that I can't submerge both boobs and knees at the same time. But I have trouble staying in the tub for more than 10 minutes, I need something to do while I "relax".

Yeah, there are some relationships I kinda wish I never had, but they taught me a good lesson. I don't do long distance because the long distance relationship I had ended so horribly. I engaged in some high risk behavior for a while and definitely learned some lessons from that. Can't change your history, just learn from it and move on.
I had a Tupperware party on line it was so fun. Has any body else done this new kind of party?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 27, 2018:
I have two problems with Tupperware. First is that it is plastic. Second is it lasts forever. I accumulated loads of Tupperware in my life, had many parties and went to many parties. Then I found out what toxins are in plastic and I have gotten rid of most of my plastic by donating to Goodwill and other places, and now use primarily glass. I do have to say that doing it online would be a heck of a lot easier than cleaning house and making treats.
Is it better to settle for a good relationship or wait for the best, even if it might never happen?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 27, 2018:
I have chosen not to settle. I may compromise on some things, but life is compromise. But I refuse to settle. Life is too short, but settling would make it way too long.

Can I ever be happy again ?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 27, 2018:
Choose happy. What makes you happy, do that. Choose to look on the bright side. Nurture yourself. Count your advantages. If you make up your mind that you will be happy, then you will be happy. If you choose otherwise it will happen. You have to make the decision and then do it.

But no, I can't think of any superstitions I hold. I pretty much have disproved the breaking a mirror superstition. Black cats are just cats, albeit really dark. Haven't seen a 4 leaf clover in ages, and rabbits feet aren't good for the rabbit why would anyone carry one.
Ás beautiful as WV is, how great to be a bit closer to nature, and as much as I love animals, deer...
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 27, 2018:
My former husband was hit by a deer in semi rural Kansas so it is not limited to WV. There was a horrible accident in the early 2000s, family driving down a 6 lane highway, deer got hit by one car, went air born and went through the windshield of another car. Mom and dad died instantly, three traumatized kids in the back seat. Deer and highways are not a good mix anywhere. Just 3/4 mile from my house I saw a young deer on the side of the road.

How do you find that "special someone"
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 25, 2018:
I don't know, I thought I found him once. The reality was he lied too often and misrepresented himself. Had we gotten together I'd have had a basket case on my hands. When things were good they were really good, but when they went to hell it was awful. So, I am being true to me. I am looking, but I don't have high hopes. I'm happy with my company (or so I keep telling myself). I do what makes me happy and if the right man comes along he will have to fit into my life. There are some things I would be happy to change, but some things are non negotiable. I will always have cats. I will not move far from the kids. I am what I am and that is a stubborn liberal tree hugging Grammy, and damn proud of it.

I drink white or rose wines on occasion. Beer doesn't like me. I don't like red wines. I don't drink daily or even weekly. And when I do drink at home alone it is usually to help me sleep. When I am out I may have a glass of wine if I'm not driving, but never on a first date. Well, usually not. Can alcohol increase life spans, I've read studies that it helps. But it hasn't so convinced me that I'm willing to add more alcohol to my life.

As I age, instances where thoughts of what death is are occurring more often.
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 24, 2018:
My mom died at 45. So once I passed 45 I felt like I had no guide into uncharted territory. Apparently this is common with motherless daughters. So now I'm 60. I fully realize that life is short and we all could go in a blink. I also work in a health related field, I know how fragile life is. One of my close cousins died at 59. Two or three other cousins have passed on. Death is part of life, no one gets out alive. When it is over, it is over. No heaven or hell, That part that makes us who we are is gone, but on the atomic level our energy is still out there. Those part will be rearranged into something else, but it isn't part of us any longer.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 24, 2018:
My answer to the men pointing out there are amazing men here as well, and yes, I totally agree. What I do want to tell you is Women of a certain age are usually overlooked, diminished, and disregarded and frequently that is done by males. It is a fact we are in a white male dominated society. I've been told many times before that I need to hide my light under a barrel, stop being so smart or I'd scare away the boys/men The first time I remember hearing that was 1973, I was 15. Also what is beyond incredible (from my point of view) is that the women here are kind and supportive of other women. This is truly a community where women are building each other up. Guys, you don't even begin to know how unusual that is. And from the bottom of my heart I will tell you it is such a welcoming, caring, comforting, supportive community like none I have ever experienced. This is like Nirvana for me, or possibly Nerdvanna.

I agree, there is no IN to fit in. Life is not one size fits all or even most. I've always always always been a bit off kilter and I learned to like it. I've always tended to be introverted, i grew up poor but I didn't realize how poor we were. What does a kid know, we always had food and clothes, just not much of the extras. I couldn't wait to get out of my small town, which is why I joined the Army after HS. Talk about going into a male dominated field. I almost always was larger than average. Plus being smart and a smart ass. I'd usually have a book with me and the things I liked to do were pretty solitary. Sewing is not a hobby to share. Somewhere along the line I figured out I liked being me and screw anyone who can't handle that. I tried to fit in sometimes, and just decided it is way too much effort. Take me as I am or leave me alone.

I'd be pretty reluctant to go back as The memories would be too fresh, too raw.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
