@Unpretentious For the most part I'm satisfied with me, and very proud of how my kids have turned out. They're all liberal and responsible, and good people. They are my greatest work. As for the rest of it, some I had control over, some I didn't, I think I did the best I could. The past is the past, you learn from it and hopefully don't still live in it.

@Unpretentious The totally sad part of my life is that I spent six years in western Washington state. Loved it out there. That is where I understood how liberal I really am, to the detriment of my ex who is one of those conservative Limbaugh types. We ended up moving to Kansas for his employment, which politically was OK as the KC Metro is fairly liberal. And then for his job we moved to Omaha, and then we got a divorce. I knew when we were in the process of moving that I would be filing for divorce. Nebraska is my "home" state, I was born 50 miles west from where I live now, and grew up 150 miles west. My kids all decided to stay in the greater metro area, and now they have kids, so I don't intend to ever move away. This isn't a buybull belt state, but close.

@Mitch07102 I have no interest in living to be over 100. I think I will run out of money about 85. My goal is to see the grandbabies grow up, and as the next one will be here in late January, I may need to rethink my budget. There likely will be another one sometime after that as well. I don't care about the number so much as the quality of life. My eating choices are based on my research of what is healthy and less processed, and what I like and or will tolerate. I also eat frugally. I try to eat less meat as meat production is really bad for the planet, and I'm a small town Nebraska girl, I grew up on STEAK and corn. I can't think of the last time I had steak. I found The Blue Zones interesting, it confirmed some of the things I already do. There are a few things I won't do, like the wine. I don't like many wines, especially red. I won't drink it for anything. The book was also interesting to me as I have been stationed in Okinawa, it was interesting to read about the native peoples and how Okinawa has changed since WWII. I was there in 1977.

@azzow2 I made several face masks, in fact more than several, and I made some for my granddaughter who is 3. If there was any possibility of her developing a facial cancer I'd take those masks back in a heartbeat. My masks are made of all cotton fabric, well washed before the fabric ever gets used. The thread is cotton poly which is found in most clothing that is mass produced in the world. No glues. Yes, there is some elastic on most of the masks, commercially produced elastic that again you will find in clothing all over the world, especially little kids clothing. My personal masks don't have elastic as I wear hearing aids on the back of my ears, and glasses, and don't need more more stuff on my ears. I dislodge the hearing aid taking the elastic masks off. I use ties on mine. There is no glue of any kind, and nothing in them that I have spent more than 40 years dealing with frequently. Good try though.

@Unpretentious Yes, online dating sucks and is usually a waste of time. I don't think the god free communities need to compete to survive. I think things are changing, people aren't attracted to churches and meeting any longer. Pre Covid families were too busy, especially those with school age kids. Who the hell wants to get up early on Sunday? Or even Saturday, or conflicts with kids' sports etc. Now that COVID has closed churches people are enjoying the down time. For years and years and years the churches have been moaning that the congregations are getting older. Yes, our generation might be the last to fill the pews. I don't see the god free communities as needing to have meetings. We don't need to get together and sing that we believe in Gravity. Churches exist to worship some sort of god and suck money out of your pocket. I don't see the god free as needing to compete with that or wanting to put something else in it's place. I visited a UU church a few times, the goddesses amused me, but even that is too fluffy for me. Let me sleep in on Sunday. My Secular Book Club did meet at 12:30 at an Irish Pub pre Covid. We jokingly called that our "church".

HippieChick58 replies on Jul 19, 2020:
@RavenCT Miss Millie was my heart cat, she was adopted in 2000 from Heartland Area Humane Society in Overland Park, KS. She was tiny when we got her, and she also had ringworm. She was part of an abandoned litter that had been fostered by a multigenerational family with a plethora of critters. She thought all good things came from people, she loved full body contact, and wasn't' afraid of my golden. In fact, she bossed the golden. This tiny 2.5 pound kitten could eat his food and he'd back off. She loved to sleep curled up with me, and when I rolled over I would also carry her along while still sleeping. She had a congenital eye condition which we controlled for several years. But then she developed another eye condition and we ended up removing her eyes in 2009. She did fine as a blind kitty, she always managed to find me and the litter box no matter how many times I moved. She passed on in November 2015. Two of my daughters we with me to say goodbye, and her ashes are buried at the home of the youngest.

@dalefvictor I have made and remade felted wool dryer balls. The serve approximately the same function as dryer sheets in that they soften the laundry. They do it by fluffing the laundry as it dries. They are unscented, but you can add essential oils to the balls if you want. I prefer not to. I don't use dryer sheets because they can gunk up the dryer and I'm allergic to whatever they use to scent them. And ultimately they're cheaper than the dryer sheets and far better for the Earth.
