WHAT IT IS REALLY LIKE TO BE INTUBATED AND PLACED ON A VENTILATOR Written by a nurse who works ...

HippieChick58 replies on May 23, 2020:
@Alchemy I have never claimed to be a nurse. I do however work for a hospital and I read the briefings they send out every day if not more often. I have an adult child that tested positive for TB when she was 5. We had just moved to Washington state, all children entering the state school districts were required to be tested. No one else in the family or extended family and community we left behind tested positive. The pulmonologist that was also a full bird colonel explained it was possible that someone coughed on her in McDonalds. That child had to take an awful liquid medication for 6 months to kill that germ. She was too young to swallow pills yet. She is 32 now, she STILL remembers the medication. As with TB, you never know who in a crowd may be carrying an infectious disease. Most people don't deliberately spread disease. But it only takes one person to mess up the next several months of your life. My hospital has sent out information that a cloth face mask will drop your odds of breathing in the disease to about 79%. If the other person is wearing a mask your risk of contamination drops to less than 2%. We are required to wear our cloth masks when we are on the hospital property but away from our desks. If a coworker joins us at our desk we both should be masked. I am willing to bet my hospital has the latest and most up to date information. And yes, they have reported that some of the provider staff have tested positive for Covid. Considering the risk in a population of nearly 3000 one case is very low.

I disagree. I wear a mask to protect other people from what I may have picked up, and to protect me from what they may have picked up so we don't spread these germs to the more vulnerable populations. . I am a good driver, but I wear a seat belt because there are too many other drivers that aren't paying attention to their driving. I immunize my kids and myself to protect those who are immunocompromised, I work for a pediatric hospital that is full of kids that are immunocompromised. We all do things to protect the herd, it is part of being a good citizen.

Yesterday we were in a meeting in a conference room, about 10 of us. There was no social distancing, we were far less than 6 feel apart. I was the only one who kept my mask on. 958 days til I qualify for Medicare so I can retire.

Let's hope this is taken up by the media...social and printed! Overturning a lifetime of conditioning by ''servants of god" takes thought and courage. In these unsettled times, my hope would be that enough publicity might help shine a light on the oppression many women are still forced to endure.

Are you familiar with the name Westboro Baptist Church? The founder was Fred Phelps, and it was essentially a hate cult despite the name church. I read his granddaughter's book: UNFOLLOW A Memoir of Loving and Leaving the Westboro Baptist Church By Megan Phelps-Roper Totally awesome book! She tells what it was like growing up in that environment, and how it got worse after her grandfather got old, and how she left that church and she is working today to educate people on how dangerous these people actually are.

@JackPedigo When I was 15 my uncle told me to play dumb so as not to chase away the boys, never let them know I was smarter than they were or I'd never get a husband. And my uncle was a good guy, but this was the prevailing idea for most of my lifetime. Women have been indoctrinated with the idea that men are to be the superior power. I do see this changing, especially among young women who are delaying marriage and not going to church. But for the women already in the mindset of oppression, how do you know you're oppressed if that is all you know?

@TheGreatShadow I haven't shopped at WM in years, and it kills me now that my groceries come from WM because daughter shops there as she was employed by them and got a discount. I don't shop at Home Depot or Lowe's because of anti union activity. I don't shop Hy-Vee because I prefer Trader Joe's, Fresh Thyme, and Natural Grocers. I agree about Amazon but I need the convenience. I won't carry a buck knife because it won't fit in my pocket, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a tweezers, nail file, and toothpick. I have other knives that stay home, and a fairly complete tool kit. I even have two electric drills which I discovered when I moved into my house. I don't know why I have two drills. It is handy when the charge runs out on one that I can usually finish with the other. I like to be self sufficient. If I can't be, I have another daughter and son in law that are carpenters. If they can't help out I hire a professional.

I think the lack of empathy is the root of all evil. When you put other things above your fellow human being then evil happens. When you let skin tone, gender, and all those other meaningless divisions come between you and your fellow humans evil is given a place to fester. We are all humans inhabiting a very small planet, and if we don't get out shit together very soon the planet will do fine without us.

@Gwendolyn2018 I did this for my grandson, he is 2, and WAS about to be moved from his crib to a twin bed in a new bedroom. His parents were just finishing the bedroom when Covid hit, and bedroom is now mom's office as she works from home, dad is working in the office in the basement. The quilt top is now folded up in my sewing room waiting for a good time to take it to the shop for mom to choose the backing and quilting pattern. We're all hoping Austin doesn't figure out he can climb out of his crib any time soon. This was kinda made up on the fly, Sarah gave me a picture of the rug to go in the room, and she wanted it of a similar theme and nothing girly. Sarah chose the fabrics as well. It has to last until he goes off to his own home.

So, if I understand you, your blood pressure medication should be out of pocket, not matter what it costs? The cost should not be covered by your employer sponsored health insurance? Which also means if you ever want Viagra or any of that genre of medication it would be out of pocket. Insurance companies do make profits, obscene profits. Most insurance company CEOs are making high six figure if not 7 figure incomes. I don't ever want my employer making health care decisions for me. If I need oral contraceptives to fight acne or uterine fibroids, I don't want to have to discuss that with HR. I want my health insurance to cover my prescriptions. Have you priced any of these drugs? I talked to a mom who had BCBS, they gave her hell about paying for CHEMO for her child. She had a $50,000+ bill. Why did I talk to this mom, I work in the billing office of a hospital. Insurance companies are totally SHIT.

HippieChick58 replies on May 6, 2020:
@lerlo My experience and my method is to look at the profile of the suspected scammer. How is their english, if they claim to be from the US and grammar/spelling/word choice is bad, that tells me possible NNES (non native English speaker), likely not well educated, which would be suspicious coming from someone who claims to have any advanced education. We look at what they claim to believe, if they are xians and this is an agnostic/atheist site they may be lost. Where are they from? Los Angeles, DC is a good trick. Abie, NE is one of my clues. Seriously no one lives there, and no apartments. I had a scammer claim to live there in an apartment. It is a really small farming community about 45 minutes from Omaha, but also alphabetically the first city in Nebraska, lazy scammers. We look at the pictures, and reverse image search. If they pop from a porn site.... If they are willing to relocate world wide... signs of a scammer. I've had too many interactions with men who would engage in conversation and then they need money and I'm the only one they can rely on.... sob. I knew a woman who spent over $10,000 on a scammer. In fact, I've heard that story from men and women. This is a free site, of course we will get people who want to take advantage of our collective naivete. I also look at who is contacting me. A drop dead gorgeous man is likely to raise my suspicions. And that man from a long way away has not read my profile. As I said, we take a look and alert admin. We don't have the ability to kick anyone off.

But the bottom line here is I have no idea what Ag.com looks like on a phone or how to use it on a phone. There is a forum to ask questions like that, or check the tutorials.
