HippieChick58 replies on Dec 7, 2018:
Well, you might be a minority. You may be trying to avoid politics, but politics is on the mind of possibly of a majority of folks on this site. If not a majority then still a good many. So, what can you do. Be selective about what you read. Is there anything in that headline that made you think it was not a political post? You may have read it but apparently others hadn't and they seem to have appreciated that it was posted. You could block all the folks that make political postings, again that would be a good many people. I am the OP, I am a fairly prolific poster as I'm a fairly prolific reader and I'm addicted to this site. I post on numerous forums. If you block me you might miss something good. However, if that is a risk you're willing to take, go for it. And Season's Greetings to you!

I switched radio stations recently because my usual went to all Christmas format. So my alternative station has The John Tesh Radio Show. As I was driving home tonight John talked about how expressing gratitude makes us happier. IMHO, happiness is fleeting and ephemeral. I am more looking for less stress and more contentment. In my experience that is close to happiness. So by noting the good things that happen each day you will acknowledge gratitude and experience something very close to happiness. Use a cup, use a mug, use a tall glass, just do it. For me, my favorite color is pink, hence the pink post its that I used. I am going to restart my bowl tonight, and I am going to use many colors of post its. (side note: I've been organizing my house as I have time to, I'm unemployed. Somehow over the past many years I bought LOTS of post it notes. Now they are all in one place, in the same drawer and OMG it is like the damn things bred in captivity! So I'm the queen of post its, multi colored and decorated post its.)

May not be relevant, but I had bronchiolitis when young because I was allergic to milk, which affected my lungs, making me sick several times every winter. When at 50 I stopped milk, my winter spate of colds stopped, too.
HippieChick58 replies on Nov 29, 2018:
This little guy is allergic to the protein in milk and soy. It is called MSPI or Milk Soy Protein Intolerance. He has been on special formula since he was about 4 weeks old. The current bug is just a damn rotten lousy bug. His mother's cousin has Cystic Fibrosis that affects the lungs, so he has already been tested for that, and he is negative. It is just a given that children in daycare will be exposed to lots of bugs and frequently be sick. The upside in theory is that they will have a stronger immune system as they get older.

@Alshaytan I am sorry for your upbringing, however it has made you wise. I told my girls that if they were not planning on becoming pregnant then they better be actively working to prevent it if they were being intimate with anyone anytime. I told them this in HS and clearly laid out to them what a pregnancy would do to the rest of their lives. The first grandchild was produced when the youngest was 26 and had been married almost 2 years. I took responsibility for my own reproduction choices, and I made sure my kids did. Yes, I wish every man and woman took responsibility for their choices. If men are spreading their sperm around they have to be willing to deal with the consequences, and women need to either prevent pregnancy on their end or make sure their partner understands what the outcome could be and is willing to shoulder that responsibility. I believe no child is illegitimate, but there are great numbers of illegitimate parents.

HippieChick58 replies on Nov 25, 2018:
Anxiety is frequently worries about the future, or regrets of the past. I have dealt with anxiety for about 12 years on a frequent basis, at one point I was medicated. The meds worked, but the side effect was that it helped me to make some less than cautious decisions. So I have been off all anxiety and depression meds for a few years, however I still had the issues to deal with. A family member recommended an app called CALM, it is guided meditation. I have used the app for almost 2 months, and daily for the last month. I am not "cured" as there is no cure, however my anxiety is under control. I am sleeping better, my resting heart rate has dropped to normal, and I have more peace than I have had for years. And I'm unemployed right now, left my last job about 3 months ago under less than ideal conditions. Yeah, I called it retired, but I don't have enough income to really retire and be insured at the same time. So, I meditate daily, sometimes several times a day. All I can tell you is I'm so much better than I was, I wish I had learned this long ago.

My dog ate some Girl Scout badges that were stapled to a piece of paper. How is that for random, loved that dog but OMG he was a vacuum cleaner at times. So, staples in the badges, I wanted them out. I made a peanut butter sandwich and doused it in Hydrogen Peroxide. He vacuumed that down as well. I sent him out to the yard, and within a few seconds/minutes he was hurling his toenails. We found the remnants of the badges, but no way was I going to look for staples. My dog also once ate paper towels that had been drenched in hydrogen peroxide and laid on stains in the carpet. It is a great stain remover. He was the best dog ever except for his tendency to eat anything!

@orange_girl I have never tried it with cats, so I am not sure. I googled it and got a big fat NO! It is not safe to induce vomiting in cats with hydrogen peroxide. It says: There is no safe way to induce vomiting at home with cats. Hydrogen peroxide is often used to induce vomiting in dogs, but is never safe to give to cats. Cats are sensitive to hydrogen peroxide and can develop irritation and bleeding of their stomach, which has been fatal to some cats. https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/pet-safety-tips/five-pet-poisoning-first-aid-misconceptions/ I am so glad you asked that, I just learned a great deal.

@orange_girl Hydrogen Peroxide will make dogs barf, which is a great way to clear out their digestive tracts of stuff they shouldn't have eaten. My dog ate some stuff with staples in it, so I put peanut butter on a piece of bread and put some hydrogen peroxide on it. He gulped it down in a quarter of a second and I sent him out in the yard. About 45 seconds later he was barfing up his toenails.
