I see nothing wrong with it and think it has become a big argument that has zero to do with why it was done. Since a good portion of those who don't like it claim it is disrespect to veterans I will add: I am a 20 year active duty US Army veteran with three deployments to combat zones and I DO ...

I've read the argument that on military bases EVERYONE gets out of cars, removes hats, faces the flag, and is silent during the national anthem. Yes, because if you don't you or your military member sponsor can face disciplinary action. Will I do that off base. Nope. Nothing like coercion to promote false patriotism.

@patchoullijulie Do I have a list? :) Only as long as my arm. I have three quilts in progress, Blocks will be similar but the layout will be different, one for each of my girls. Then I have been asked to make a twin quilt for granddaughter when she moves to twin bed. I am adding exercise to my schedule, I will be taking a few yoga classes. I joined a book club. My garage needs to be cleaned, and it has a leak issue so I have to work on the outside of the garage to raise the level and slope of the landscaping. And after the garage dries out it needs to be painted with waterseal. My garage is on the basement level. I will be doing my "death cleaning" Getting rid of a lifetime of accumulation that I don't need and my kids don't want. I have stacks of stuff that I will be selling on eBay or Etsy. I have more books I need to read. Oh, my deck needs to be cleaned and repainted. Maybe my list is longer than my arm! :)

@Deiter I grew up with the mentality that anything not straight was wrong. But that was the 60s and some much of what was taught was wrong. I morphed quickly enough to you love who you love, as long as I was left alone I'd leave others alone. One of my kids had this tendency to recognize gay guys that weren't out of the closet, and she helped them out of the closet. All her friends in college were gay guys. She is still friends with them. I think my aunt was gay, never married spinster. I read her diaries. Either she was gay or her friendship with a girl was described very lovingly. Her family, including my dad forced her to give up that friendship. When I read her diaries after she passed on I realized how crappy my dad was and how lonely she must have been. Now I think everyone should love who they love, we should celebrate love and deregulate it. The world needs more love. The only sin is the morons who try to regulate love.
Donald Trump shows an unparalleled bent for shameless self-promotion.

HippieChick58 replies on Sep 3, 2018:
@TheDoubter True, but my kids grew up never able to know my mom. She died when I was a teenager. I want to be close to the babies to see them to grow up, I want them to know me. You only get that by spending lots of time with them and living close. Also, we were a military family when the kids were little. For a few years the youngest thought her dad's parents lived at the airport because we always picked them up there. I realize that my desire to be close to the babies is shutting doors to lots of relationships, and I'm really OK with that. It is what my heart tells me is the right thing to do.

@JenBeberstein The drug issue happens because so many drugs are illegally obtained or created. There is quite a bunch of money to be made in illicit drugs, that is the cost to society. I'm all for legal, regulated prostitution. If you are going to self harm you have to be where no one else can be effected, no children involved or witnessing. And yes, suicide as I said should be legal and assisted and definitely should not have criminal charges.

HippieChick58 replies on Sep 2, 2018:
@JenBeberstein There is or can be a cost to society for the drug usage. LSD trips from my childhood come to mind. Now the prostitution, I like the way the Germans do it, legal and regulated. Self harm can be an issue, it has mental health connections. Now suicide I think should be legal with some regulations. You don't want dead bodies showing up where they shouldn't or not being found for an extended period of time.
For better or worse.
