For my girls, if I am up moving around they think they will be fed. Sometimes they are right, most of the time there is still food in their bowl and I pass right on by. Miss Zelda has been playing with the dry food which tells me she isn't hungry in the least. I am sure there is about a full bag of food under the stove that she has knocked under there with her little games. I probably ought to clean it out one of these days.

I use an app called Calm. It is for meditation. When I meditate regularly my resting heart rate goes down, and I sleep better. And no, I don't do this as often as I should. New job this week, and I'm trying to set up new habits, I have meditated 4 out of 5 days. We'll see how long I can keep it going.

When I lived in Illinois I used to frequently see a bank with the time/temperature sign in both C and F. There must have been a long light there, because I began to associate C with F temperatures. I know that 0° C is freezing, 10° is coolish, 20° is comfortable for me (or was then), 30° is hot for me, and when it starts pushing 40° C I am not going outside and not staying inside without AC.

I would like to think I am much like my mom, she was sweet, and gentle. I'm not, but we had different lives. She was a good mom, creative, and liked to work with her hands, as my sister and I do. My sister has her sweetness and gentleness. Mom died when I was 14. I am not like my dad, for that I am grateful. The dad I knew as an adult was different than he was when I was a kid. My mom's death and his remarriage changed him in a not good way. He was abusive when I was a child, as was not uncommon for the '60s. At the end of his life he was just an unhappy blustering old man.

I did counseling with my ex husband twice. One of the counselors said look at what's working and start there. I divorced him finally because I wasn't willing to play second fiddle to his xian hymnal website. He's still with her. My answer is often situation specific. When asked at the doctor's office I will never answer fine. Often I will answer "here", or "well, I made it here." In Omaha the busiest street in town is Dodge, and as you get further east it gets worse (as someone who lives very much to the west.) Tomorrow I start a new job about 3/4 or of the way east and I don't like traffic anyway. If asked how I am I am likely to remark that I have once again emerged victorious over the battle of Dodge. Usually that will get the ice well broken.

I have such a deep reservoir of what could be devastating things I've been told. They've all been like drips on a rock, and so many to choose from. All of them propelled me to move on or change things. One in particular determined the direction of my life. My mom died when I was 14, my dad remarried 6 months later. My stepwitch told my sisters and I that my dad promised her she would never have to do housework because he had three daughters to do it. It ended up that one of my sisters went to live with my grandparents, and one with an aunt and uncle in another state. It was just me and the stepwitch. Dad also told me he was not going to sign the paperwork so I could go to college. (This was mid 1970s, that was the way it was.) Before I graduated from HS I went to visit a Navy recruiter as two of my brothers and one uncle had been in the Navy. The Navy had no openings for women for over a year, so he escorted me to the Army recruiter's office. I took the paperwork home for Dad to sign. Dad didn't have a good out, and it caught him way off guard. But he signed and I got the hell out of his house and out of the state of Nebraska as of December 1, 1976.

My former supervisor seemed to take a great deal of delight whenever she could show me when I was wrong, and she often drew out the time to teach me the right way to do it, if she even showed me the right way. More than once my error could not be replicated to show me the right way. I'm not sad not to be working there.
