Did you see that smug self-righteous son-of-a-bitch at the so-called daily briefing? The networks shouldn't air those shit-shows line. Instead, tape it and splice in a reality check. Don't do analysis after pos stops talking but interspaced with his talking points. And something needs to be done about Pravda (aka, Fox).

It is disheartening to see such things. And, yes, in a service like that, they will be caught up in the moment and will confuse their altered state of mind to be the spirit of god. However... we obviously can't get inside their head. We don't know what may go through their mind in moments of despair Nor do we know what doubts they may have. We can't know what may crack their armor or, to use another metaphor, we can't know what cracks life has put in the lenses of their god glasses. There is always hope, at least for some of them...... Many of us have found our way out.

I don't understand the metaphor.
HumanistJohn comments on Mar 29, 2020:
In the beginning there was water everywhere Gen 1:2: "And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." Aside- it looks like god didn't create the waters; I suppose that it was eternal. Gen 1:7: "And god made the firmament and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament." By the way, 'firmament' probably refers to a metal dome.

I'm not a fan of American crony capitalism. However, generalizations and assertions get you nowhere. Do you have evidence for the particular assertions that you are making? Health care workers are literally putting their lives on the line to care for others. It looks like, from this post at least, you are one of those science deniers which are a big part of the problem for our country and the world, not only for COVID-19 but climate change also (and lot of other anti-science bullshit). Oh, and by the way, have you looked at the number of cases reported yesterday? And the death toll in this country which is over 1,000? And the numbers are probably much higher because of a shortage of tests. Question- where DO you get your news from?

A lot of it is corporate welfare. There are some GOPers who are complaining that unemployment 'benefits' are too 'generous.' Yet they want to give $500 BILLION to corporations with no strings attached. Such typical right-wing bullshit. I would like to see each and every one of those POSes given 50 bucks or so and dumped in a city where no one knows them (with no crredit cards either) and see how they survive.

Wow! I wish that these were posted separately so I could like (and possibly comment on) each one. It's nice that you didn't feel that you had to show the entire flower (photo #3)- your attention was drawn to the pistils (stamen? I'm not a botanist). I liked the yellow rose with the buds. And the photo of the daisy with the 'downward' petals is unique and unusual which is something all photographers should strive for.

I particularly liked the picture o the seated man outside of the pharmacy. The one of the buildings was striking. The focus on the foreground with other (hazy) buildings in the distance gave depth to the meaning of city. The treesm car, and a person at street level also put in a human touch to the city. Impressive.

HumanistJohn comments on Mar 24, 2020:
I liked the first shot particularly. Did you shoot raw or jpg? If raw, can you adjust the shadowed portion to bring out more detail? Since the sky is exposed nicely, the darker parts of the photo will be a rad bit underexposed. I liked the picture but it would be even more striking with more detail in the dark areas. Thanks for posting it.

Most of us are familiar with the story of Adam and Eve in te garden.
HumanistJohn comments on Mar 24, 2020:
One of the functions of a culture's mythology is aetiology, that is explaining why certain things are the way they are. Another is to explain their people's (usually supposed) history, but that's a story for another day. One of the reasons for the garden of eden myth is to explain why snakes, in contrast to other creatures, doesn't have legs. Christians have hijacked the story for theological purposes, quite at odds with its original intent. I was pointing out the absurdity of making the story a theological statement. I want dialogue with christians. Maybe, just maybe, I can help them along in their rejection of christian doctrine and beliefs.

I read frequently to my oldest daughter. She started reading when she was three. Shortly before her 4th birthday we moved to another city. I brought her to the library to get a library card. the woman at the desk laughed and said that a child had to be able to read to get a library card. Kara was very petite, which didn't help the situation. I said "give her something." she handed her a Time (or Newsweek) magazine. She started reading. After a sentence or two, everyone behind the desk was listening. She got her library card. It is so important to stimulae your children by reading to them and encouraging their imagination.

Okay, so there is always the Atheist vs.
HumanistJohn comments on Mar 10, 2020:
Thanks to everyone for their comments. In popular parlance, "agnosticism means not sure of god's existence whereas "atheism" menas a surety that god (or gods) do not exist. Which is where you get your fence metaphor from. However, many would define the terms differently. Atheism has to do with belief. I am an atheist because I do not believe any god(s) exist. I am also an agnostic; I have no knowledge of any god(s). I am not 100% certain that a god (or gods) exist. I have not seen any evidence for his/her/its/their existence. But given the immensity of the universe...
I saw comments that this couldn't be right. What do you think?
