Remember people only have as much power over you as you give them. I do admit their attempts at control get annoying.
I have just been diagnosed with diabetes type 2 and have been advised to cut down on carbohydrates.
JazznBlues comments on Jun 21, 2018:
I don't have diabetes but eat like I do. Cabbage is a favorite boiled or fried. Lots of beans - enchiladas or just homemade burritos & lots of vegetables. After a while it seems very normal to eat that way. Good luck!
Three years ago the way that people with autism are classified was changed.
JazznBlues comments on Jun 20, 2018:
I hate it. I think it just confuses the issue and slows progress and understanding by changing the lingo for no apparent reason. My daughter is very classically autistic and will never be independent. Putting her in the same umbrella as high functioning asperger people seems shady.
Something for my US friends to ponder in time for November.

Best thing I've seen all week.
Just saw a Agnostic.
JazznBlues comments on Jun 20, 2018:
I posted the comment below, wondering how much grief I'll get. It's mainly a site dedicated to intelligent discussion without all nonsense of religion. Music, dance, autism, politics, cooking, whatever...
I need more help from my community sometimes.
JazznBlues comments on Jun 19, 2018:
My daughter is autistic and I really appreciate hearing your thoughts. I do my best but sometimes she's quite the enigma. Remember that people can really suck and judge everyone, not just you, so do your best to take care of you, instead of worrying about them.
This is a bit of a rant but also I would like to know what people's thoughts are on this.
JazznBlues comments on Jun 18, 2018:
I told my Dad that I cut people out of my life who try to force religion on me. I told him I love him dearly and didn't want that to happen. He apologized for arguing with me and been best friends ever since. No idea if that would work for you, but I hope it would. Sorry you had to go through that. Sending you strength ?

Have you ever considered the ingredients of toothpaste?
JazznBlues comments on Jun 16, 2018:
I make my own laundry detergent and just gearing up to make super fancy bar soaps. Should probably add tooth paste to that list and maybe dish soap as well. Turning in to a hippy just like my parents.
So, is this like a thing?
JazznBlues comments on Jun 16, 2018:
Would love to take you for a spin out on the dance floor. Save a spot for me on your dance card
What's the worst purchase that you have ever made?
JazznBlues comments on Jun 16, 2018:
Marriage certificate or subscription to Starz. Bit of a toss up...
Buying vegan wine is a jungle! Trader Joe’s has a list and can tell you which wines are vegan.
JazznBlues comments on Jun 16, 2018:
Isn't all wine vegan, I truly do not know?
I’m so upset with this recent illegal immigrant separation of children from their families.
JazznBlues comments on Jun 15, 2018:
I should probably call my Senator/Representative before I lose my shit. Anger overflowing and its hard to think passively while sessions commits MAJOR human rights violations under the guise of national security. I get so angry and embarrassed about what this country is becoming.

JazznBlues comments on Jun 15, 2018:
I've had a couple tragedies in this lifetime and what I found actually comforted me was a friend who would come over and drink a bottle of wine with me. Talk, reminisce, keep me distracted for a while. Platitudes are meaningless.

Anyone else like the movie LUCY, with Scarlet Johansson and Morgan Freeman?
JazznBlues comments on Jun 10, 2018:
I really like the way it was shot and the conceptual ideas of it I agree that some of the premises are weak but really enjoyed the movie as a whole.
Question. How do you feel about needing to put your hand on a bible in court to be sworn in?
JazznBlues comments on Jun 10, 2018:
It's your choice what you want to swear on, you don't have to swear on the Bible.
You have to make love to my mind.

"You must be a very lonely man, Jaime.
JazznBlues comments on Jun 9, 2018:
This resonates with me. I have a huge amount of friends and yet year by year I find myself separating from most of them. It has something to do with rejecting all the preconceived notions that society pushes on us. Everything from being an atheist to rejecting the idea of marriage to spending more than you earn. I'm a self-contained unit that's pretty happy being a self-contained unit. It's a personal journey that I have no idea where it's leading to.
Would you date a girl from the middle east?

When raising children is it OK to let them go with a friend to a Bible camp?
JazznBlues comments on Jun 8, 2018:
I feel like you're volunteering your kid for brainwashing camp. Maybe not the best decision.
Just thought this chart would be helpful in understanding the differences.
JazznBlues comments on Jun 8, 2018:
I'd like to be an agnostic atheist but the idea of god seems sooo ridiculous. I think I'm stuck with gnostic atheism. Talking to someone about god is like talking about teletubbies or mutant ninja Teenage Turtles. Just can't wrap my mind around the fact that a full grown adult believes in that crap.

JazznBlues comments on Jun 7, 2018:
Nope and then maybe no one more time for good measure. I truly believe there are people in the United States that could actually make a very good POTUS. I also truly believe that none of them will ever get anywhere near to running for office.
My son is autistic and a very picky eater.
JazznBlues comments on Jun 7, 2018:
That's awesome, my adult autistic daughter is pretty much addicted to pizza and I hate it. Spaghetti is the healthiest thing she eats. I'm going to try and feed her the sweet potatoes like you did. Wish me luck.
Who here is a fanilow?
JazznBlues comments on Jun 6, 2018:
If you would have asked me what I wanted to be when I was five year old it was Barry Manilow. It's terribly funny and embarrassing now because it was absolutely the truth. Side note: I sound exactly like Johnny Cash when I sing.
An old friend of 50 years has become a person of extreme religiosity in his old age.
JazznBlues comments on Jun 6, 2018:
My Dad used to pressure me quite a bit to come back to God. I finally got annoyed and told him the only higher power here was me and I'm fine not going to church. Problem solved and we have been best friends for the last 20 years. We can even talk about our different beliefs respectfully. I think he needed to see that I really wasn't going to change my mind no matter what. Bit of a gamble, probably save it for a last resort.

Anyone ever asked you if you're ashamed to be an atheist?
JazznBlues comments on Jun 4, 2018:
Very comfortable in my own skin. Being honest about who you are is pretty important. If they are truly well-thought-out beliefs that you feel strongly about I don't see any reason to be ashamed or silent. Being confident and comfortable without being confrontational seems to work well for me.

JazznBlues comments on Jun 3, 2018:
My Moment was when I was thinking about how all the religions seem to be created out of man's fear of death. That realization made all of the religions seem very ridiculous and not particularly relevant. Being willing to face your fears head on seems to be the cure.

JazznBlues comments on Jun 3, 2018:
People will always find a way to muck things up. Religion is just an accelerant for the fire of human stupidity. Saying that, I do think it would be much better. People who think for themselves make better choices and think more clearly.

Just asking, but what do you think about the more"millitant" athiests?
JazznBlues comments on Jun 2, 2018:
If the shoe were on the other foot and atheists acted like Christians then I think the militant label would be warranted. I'm Chuckling thinking about walking up to someone's door, knocking on it and handing them a anti-religious tract and explaining to them the fallacy of their religious beliefs.
Just asking, but what do you think about the more"millitant" athiests?
JazznBlues comments on Jun 2, 2018:
There are moments when I'm probably guilty of being one. The idea of being a silent, passive, turn the cheek atheist when accosted by people over sharing their theism doesn't sit well with me. Explain what you mean by "more militant".
Wondering how many here would share the view that mainstream organised religions are actually cults?
JazznBlues comments on Jun 2, 2018:
I define them all as cults. I think organized religion is all about exerting power over the masses. I'm a big advocate of looking at all the facts and making up your own mind. Relinquishing the power to make your own decisions and form your own opinions sounds terrifying to me.
Does anyone have random strangers approach you and do their damn best to save your soul?
JazznBlues comments on Jun 2, 2018:
I am a crazy person magnet. Probably twice a week I get approached by a smiling idiot asking me if I've heard the good news. I must really throw off a vibe. My friends think it's hilarious but I actually find it quite distasteful.
As a non-believer, how do you respond when someone says, "I'll pray for you"?
JazznBlues comments on Jun 1, 2018:
My friends and coworkers know better. Being upfront about who you are and what you're willing to tolerate removes all the ridiculous friction that builds up because of being polite and hiding who you are. Let them know in a funny but firm way that that's cute but let's get back to reality. Problem solved. They may be slightly offended once but from then on out problem is solved.
Here is a question for men: how do you react to a woman crying?

As a non-believer, do you find yourself preferring one political candidate over another based on ...
JazznBlues comments on May 31, 2018:
I'm a firm believer in the separation of church and state. I so HATE seeing a politician's personal religious beliefs play into their decision making process in regards to their job. Saying that, I look for candidates that don't flaunt their religiosity.
How comfortable are you with the word "Atheist" ?
JazznBlues comments on May 30, 2018:
I was told by an agnostic coworker that I was the most militant atheist he knows. I truly think he was responding to my comfort level with being an atheist and an antitheist. I think when I truly came to understand how sad and silly religion is, it truly cemented my comfort level in my own beliefs. I'm pretty much through being passive when someone else tries to shove their religion on me. I'm me, love me or hate me, I'm still going to be me.
Do you find it offensive when theist think without a belief in god/gods, it’s impossible to have ...
JazznBlues comments on May 30, 2018:
My answer revolves around not being able to screw up and pray to have my sins wiped away. Atheists are required to get it right in one, it's what makes us such great people.
Religious books can be considered controlled dangerous subjects
JazznBlues comments on May 29, 2018:
I love religious texts as the fables myths that people actually believe in, it's crazy. Cosplay for adults...
Were you happier as a believer or non-believer?
JazznBlues comments on May 29, 2018:
The freedom to question anything and everything without judgment or guilt is so liberating and cathartic that could never ever entertain any religion again.
What is your definition of intelligence?
JazznBlues comments on May 29, 2018:
Book knowledge and memorization, logic and intuition, common sense, emotional intelligence and the ability to transfer learning from one discipline to another. Too many ways to list... The one that is really shiny to my eyes would have to be emotional intelligence. In a world full of people, it seems like the most useful of them all.
