I would like to add a few cents worth on this whole issue.....I keep hearing the question - "why did she not speak up 36 years ago". Let me explain something....when you're 15-ish and you've just started to have a "social life", the LAST thing you're going to do is tell your parents about stuff like that happening at the party you just went to. Because their reaction would be (and probably rightly so) --no more parties. Your social life would come to an abrubt halt before it ever even got started.... Teenagers don't make smart decisions for the most part - thats all part of that rite of passage. Is there anyone out there who didn't see or wasn't involved in something they knew wasn't right - but kept quiet about it anyway?

Most of our cats ate the dry cat food (not the bargain stuff) until they got up in age. Then they seemed to prefer a little of the wet (canned) stuff to supplement. We had one make it to 20 - another one is headed for 21. She thinks she is a dog - now she wants to share people food - kinda hard to tell a 20+ year old cat "no - this is no good for you". ;) What can I say - they are all spoiled rotten.

I think this is one of those ideas that sounds really good - in theory. But ends up horribly most of the time. If you and your partner love each other very much, but he/she feels they are not getting enough sex - how do you wrap your head around the idea that this person you love is sharing some of their most intimate moments with someone other than you? Knowing the types of encounters you two have shared - and then seeing him/her doing all of that with someone else (in your head) - and the "pillow talk" afterwards -- wouldn't that eventually drive you just a little bit nuts? I am really fascinated by the ability to "disengage" emotionally like that. I've always thought that those open relationships were sort of like playing sexual Russian Roulette. You might do it successfully many times but eventually you're gonna end up with someone who makes you forget about the one you have at home. Which begs the question: was this marriage destined to come to an end anyway?

Her story plays itself out every weekend - somewhere. Insecurity is part of teenage angst - and girls (and boys) do stupid things at that age because they think it will bring them peer acceptance. Self respect (unfortunately) comes in second behind that.... And most of the girls think they need to stay quiet because (a) they are the only one this has happened to - therefore, there must be something "wrong" with them and/or (b) they truly believe that no one will believe their story. After all - that boy comes from such a gooooood family - he couldn't possibly be that disrespectful, right? I hate to say it - but the only way this will ever change is for girls/women to speak out when it happens and for parents to teach their sons that no means no.

I believe its hard wired into our DNA for men to be sexually "charged" most of the time - to ensure the survival of the species, I guess. Society and civilization has required them to rein in their natural instincts and tendencies and "play nice". For some men that seems to come easy - for others it presents a bit more of a challenge.
