In Colorado we don't plant seeds outside until after Mother's Day.
Leafhead comments on Apr 7, 2018:
I start my seeds indoors around 4 to 6 wks before last frost, to get a jump on things. I replant into 4" pots at around Mother's Day as well and put outdoors. By then, they have 4 to 6 sets of leaves, and are head and shoulders above those that I see germinating outdoors. I mainly plant Milkweed, but this year I'm also planting Golden Alexander and Agastache.
Nice tour of a food forest only 2 1/2 years old. [youtu.be]

God, I miss Florida!
Hello fellow gardeners, I promised my youngest son he could help in the garden this year.
Leafhead comments on Apr 6, 2018:
Fennell, Dill and Parsley will do well in large pots and as a side benefit, they attract Black Swallowtails
If you were raised religious, how much did you dread prayer?
Leafhead comments on Apr 5, 2018:
You definitely had sharp instincts as a girl, and it has paid off. Add to that number a guy who has been to a couple of "healers" for my seizure disorder. One "pastor" as I remember him was blessing the wrong end-with his GI Joe Kung Fu Grip no less.
Just joined this group.

I miss the weather, the beach and the ability to garden 365. I'm sitting here on April 4th staring at snow. Not next year.
Do any of you identify as Primal?

OOGA BOOGA!! Man, if there's anything better than hot monkey sex, I haven't found it yet!
A lot of prayers for fortunes, healing, etc, on facebook.
Leafhead comments on Apr 4, 2018:
Amen to that LOL
I am reading about milkweed and noticed there are different kinds.
Leafhead comments on Apr 4, 2018:
Here's a tip I learned on a video some years ago. If you're really in a pinch and totally out of Milkweed, Monarch cats can be weaned onto pumpkin or even cucumber! Only the 5th in stars will make this transition, and I recommend this as an overflow measure only, since their first choice should always be Milkweed. The Monarchs should ideally be eating those toxins which protect them from most predators.
My response to "It's well established that humans are natural omnivores".
Leafhead comments on Apr 3, 2018:
Ummm... We HAD to become scavengers and thieves at first, then hunter gatherers. And even our closest living relative today, the Chimpanzee, hunts regularly We have flat teeth and nails because we don't need claws and fangs. (Teeth and nails from when we were mainly herbivores.) We have tools. Homo erectus got the bright idea to cook his food, and we've been cooking dependant since. That is why we are no longer able to digest raw meat properly, though I still love Sushi. While you're at it, try eating a raw eggplant or potato. Urp...
I am a 46 year old pansexual man, and in the past I've enjoyed bondage and anal sex (receiving both)...

Leafhead comments on Apr 3, 2018:
I tried veganism once. I ate all the right things, and even took suppliments. Know what happened?? I ended up in the hospital with MALNUTRITION! People are omnivores. Our ancestors had to learn a new diet. Even Chimpanzees, our closest living relative, hunt. We need some animal protein. If you are conscientious about killing, there are always dairy and eggs. Fish is best though.

Leafhead comments on Apr 3, 2018:
I have been butterfly gardening for around 35 years going strong. Looking forward to another growing season, though next year I think I'll head for warmer climes. I took one step outside and slid down a flight of icy steps. I'm fucking done. Last season was especially eventful, with the raising and release of 81 healthy, beautiful butterflies. I plan on 100 this year before I pack it in and head to Florida.
I am reading about milkweed and noticed there are different kinds.
Leafhead comments on Apr 3, 2018:
There are many species of Milkweed. Monarchs tend to prefer Asclepias native to their region. In the Midwest, that would be Common, Swamp and Purple Milkweeds, among others. Monarchs in Florida can be attracted and sustained with Whitevine (Sarcostemma), a relative of Milkweed. Queens and Soldiers will use this too

Do you want a funeral, or a celebration of your life?
Leafhead comments on Apr 2, 2018:
Definitely a celebration of life, with my ashes spread out over the Gulf Stream. I want to give my remains freely and completely back to the Earth. None of this embalming and viewing shit for me. I don't want friends and family seeing me all dead. I want to remember me in life.
Today I found Jesus/ It was an amazing, downright profound moment for me in my life.
Leafhead comments on Apr 1, 2018:
Holy Savior, Batman!!
Did I screw up?
Leafhead comments on Apr 1, 2018:
There are many reasons to celebrate Easter, not just the Christian way. You can still spend "holy" holidays with friends and/or family, around a whole bunch of food. That's what has bonded us Humans together since Homo erectus, food and fire. That's what is nuclear to us. I occasionally do go to church with family, but I don't sing or recite anymore. I use this particular church as a distribution point for Milkweed and other necessary pollinators items for gardens and restoration projects. I'd go to the devil himself if it would save the Monarch at this point.
Farming for change. A lot of good information [farmxchange.org]
Leafhead comments on Apr 1, 2018:
I utilize most of my growing season concentrating on Monarch Butterflies and other declining pollinators. I say NO to pesticides! Gardens are ecosystems as well and should be treated as such. Too many people and complexes strive for that sterile, formal look when they should be incorporating host plants for butterflies in out of the way places, and using native plants, bushes and trees that benefit not only insects, but birds and other wildlife as well. Berries, fuits, flowers and edible leaves all are inviting to a garden's other half, Native fauna. Use of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides is detrimental. They affect a garden like drugs, killing off good with bad. Only 1% of all bugs are detrimental. The rest are beneficial, neutral or just plain fascinating. Any healthy garden is apt to be good and buggy. And that's not as bad as it sounds.
Does anyone here have a butterfly garden?
Leafhead comments on Apr 1, 2018:
I have been butterfly gardening for a number of years now. I have been into plants lifelong. Last year I raised 81 healthy Monarchs and Swallowtails, including a Dark Form Tiger. She was my prize last year. I didn't get a photo cause she flew off too fast. I have raised rare butterflies in the past, namely Atalas and Malachites.
Watching a documentary on amazon Plant- what they talk about. pretty cool
Leafhead comments on Apr 1, 2018:
Just having my morning Joe and contiplating the day. Day 1 of the 2018 Season began for me yesterday, with the emergence of my first Anise Hyssop and Golden Alexander seedlings. Looking forward to a better season. 2017 saw total "crop failure", without a single germination. I did raise and release 81 healthy Monarchs and Swallowtails, even if my Milkweed giveaway was a flop. Looking forward to getting into the garden, if it ever gets warm enough.
What are the atheists in this group doing for Passover?
Leafhead comments on Mar 30, 2018:

The frost the last few nights have burned my banana trees.

For "converts" to Atheism, what caused you to question your previous beliefs?
Leafhead comments on Mar 30, 2018:
Just the final realization that the Goatherder's Guide to the Galaxy was only a book of parables to be taken with a grain of salt (did I hear someone say salt lick??) At that end, science and math are LITERAL studies, whereas religion and the Bible are open for interpretation. 10 people reading the Wholly Babble will come up with 10 different interpretations. Those same 10 people studying math or science all come up with the same answers!
What caused you to question god
Leafhead comments on Mar 30, 2018:
I started doubting the Bible at a very young age, around age 12. The Bible proved to be self explanitory, BS. I didn't really start doubting the existence of a deity until around three years ago. I finally realized that if my religion was wrong, they all might be. And I cannot separate religion from a god in my mind. A deity is nuclear for most religions. I finally gave up on the hope of afterlife, in favor of more solid things in this life, and obvious truths in front of my nose. Man created God Death after life.
What liars and hypocrites fear most is the truth.

"Most Christian president ever." I want to cry at this woman's ignorance.

Beneficial weeds [youtu.be]
Leafhead comments on Mar 29, 2018:
Beneficial weeds for your lawn: (don't HATE me) dandelion, violets, hawk weed and Desmodium. All good for pollinators and/or butterfly and skipper larvae.
My daily mischief.
Leafhead comments on Mar 29, 2018:
As long as I am not approached, I am cordial and respectful of another's belief. If approached, I simply and politely identify as atheist/Gaian If engaged, I will actively, and civilly debate. If threatened (with Hell), I SHUT THEM DOWN!
Have you ever teleported, or known someone who did?
Leafhead comments on Mar 29, 2018:
I used to go on Astral journeys in my younger days, in my sleep. The thing that made these "dreams" different was 1. Their basis in reality, except I could fly. 2. I could easily retrace flights through old neighborhoods, on foot a day or so later and and note every difference and detail as I had seen it in flight! 3. After any flight, I woke up ALWAYS feeling super charged.
If religious people 100% believed their doctrines, would they have any fear of death?
Leafhead comments on Mar 29, 2018:
They'd likely be suicidal. Take suicide bombers dying for their shit hole gods. They wouldn't think twice.
I find myself using the expression, “Thank God!” in a pretty regular manner.
Leafhead comments on Mar 28, 2018:
I like to say, "Thank Jebus"
Is incarceration of any benefit at all (other than removing someone from society) or is it all about...
Leafhead comments on Mar 28, 2018:
The problem with incarceration is that it is being overused. Serious jail time for something stupid like smoking pot uses up space meant for a serial rapist or someone equally unfit for society. Then there's the Death Penalty for murderers and child molesters. I do believe that some people, like Manson, relinquish their right to live by their heinous acts.. On the flipside, captivity does horrible things to a Primate. Fines can provide the same, if not better deterrent to crimes lesser than capital ones.

Do you support Trump?
Leafhead comments on Mar 27, 2018:
FUCK no. Trump stands for everything I am against. Trump is unhealthy for America and a huge polluter of resources and politics. I just hope Oprah can get the shit stains out of the curtains.
Do you think it's OK to kiss on the first date?
Leafhead comments on Mar 27, 2018:
Kissing on the first date is no big deal. 2nd base comes later. Breath is very important to me, and good teeth too. I don't want to kiss a crossword later. Nor can I withstand halitosis and BO. Hygiene says just about everything about a person.
What do you say?
Leafhead comments on Mar 27, 2018:

What's the worst job you've had? Why?
Leafhead comments on Mar 27, 2018:
Washing dishes at the Rooftop Restaurant and Hotel in SoFla for extra bacon. Why? 1. The job. 2. The management. When I was all caught up on my bills, I handed in my notice, and was promptly cursed out by my super. I suggested he come to Friday's island and get a real day's work done, then I left.
Should religion be taught in schools?
Leafhead comments on Mar 27, 2018:
Hell no.
When did you first doubt religion?
Leafhead comments on Mar 27, 2018:
Around age 12 or so, trying to put Tab A into Slot B when it came to Creation and the theory of evolution. I also wondered about all the other religions and cultures in the world, and why they were wrong and Xianity was right. Science and the Bible didn't add up anywhere. Finally, my brother got me reading all of the Bible and that pretty much did it. I was agnostic til around 3 yrs ago, when I finally completely let go of God and any afterlife. Pretty much all that time in between was hidden Pascal's Wager in there somewhere.

Is "God" a bunch of Aliens?
Leafhead comments on Mar 26, 2018:
To drop another movie reference: "Show me the money!" We need proof before we can blame all this god stuff on a bunch of Aliens
How did you come out as atheist, agnostic etc..
Leafhead comments on Mar 26, 2018:
I suddenly realized that math, science and history lessons are based on facts and evidence. In other words, literally. The Bible cannot be taken literally without turning to mush, so what good is it as a true source of real knowledge? What did I lose? Eternal life, or rather the illusion and comfort of it. As for what I gained, freedom to expand and live without reprisal by an angry and jealous god
Have you ever been misunderstood by someone else?
Leafhead comments on Mar 26, 2018:
I was in middle school and my favorite teacher asked me something, and my response was "Just a second". For some reason, she heard half the word and she flunked me, and sent me to the Board of Education. (An actual board on my ass). I never forgot that.
Have you ever had a frenemy?
Leafhead comments on Mar 26, 2018:
On tenuous ground with ex who hangs with my friends, my family and still calls. I don't trust him, but I remain cordial, though his ingreaciating attempts with my family really bugs me. I got my eye on this one.

Why are we hated for hating xmas?
Leafhead comments on Mar 26, 2018:
I love Xmas. I celebrate it for what it is, the celebration of the Winter Solstice, before the Borg assimilated it as a religious holiday, along with Easter (Ishtar). Xmas is a time for the three Fs in life. Family, friends and food.
How would you explain Easter without referreing it to as the ressurection of Christ?
Leafhead comments on Mar 26, 2018:
An ancient, Pagan ritual celebrating Spring and rebirth. (Ishtar) Eggs. Chicks. Rabbits. All symbols of FERTILITY.
God and Ghosts
Leafhead comments on Mar 26, 2018:
I saw some really weird things living in a house down in Florida with a recent widow. I don't know if it was a ghost or the widow's energy making that shit happen, but my mind doesn't make up what I saw in that house. I also went on Astral trips in my sleep in my younger days. I could later retrace my route a day or two later and confirm what I saw on my trip. No drugs, no kidding

Can you provide a label for my belief system?
Leafhead comments on Mar 26, 2018:
The whole Afterlife thing came from way back, when the human mind discovered its own mortality. We invented living on as a kind of "workaround" for our brains. One major coping mechanism, a product of mental evolution.
Can you provide a label for my belief system?
Leafhead comments on Mar 26, 2018:
Labels are for cans, jars and lab samples. We are what we are. I identify as Gaian, but one might also call me atheist, recovering Christian or all kinds of names
Are you attracted to people who are just comfortable being themselves from the start?
Leafhead comments on Mar 26, 2018:
I would rather be with someone who is comfortable being himself on a date than a pretentious phoney, or worse yet, someone with secrets to hide. Uneasy people make me uneasy.
Do you believe Atheism is a religion?
Leafhead comments on Mar 26, 2018:
Atheism is a religion like baldness is a hair color and abstinence is a sexual position.
