@mischl "But my way of handling it (in almost all cases) is to get the two people in a room with me, and both parties get to tell their story completely and try to communicate openly and honestly." With all due respect which in this case is very little, that is the most bloody stupid thing I have ever heard! I too hold qualifications in counselling, gained after the final end of my horrific first marriage, in an attempt to help myself and other, especially men in a similar situation , and I am am horrified you would suggest such a course of action. I spent years in an abusive relationship with a violent and predatory woman, my first wife. Getting the two of us in to a councilors office would have been impossible without dire consequences for me, even if we had I would have been coached beforehand on what to say with again the promise of consequences if I deviated from the script. Confidentiality would have meant nothing, and all our family and friends would have been informed of how I had dragged her through an utterly traumatic event because I was a liar and a bastard. In sexual matters you want a woman to sit with her uncharged abuser or rapist, who will be taking notes and making tacit threats? You are criminally naive I dread to think how much damage you have caused. Edited for spelling and grammar

THRAWN.
LenHazell53 comments on Mar 28, 2020:
Thrawn is a Caledonian form of the Old English þrawan "to twist, turn or distort" originally spelled with a thorn as opposed to th as in thrown past participle of to throw or cast away. Applying it to people as a character trait is a Scottish invention. The root word is thraian and is Saxon.
LenHazell53 replies on Mar 28, 2020:
@Marionville A good trick when researching any word that starts with the TH sound is to check for alternates spelled with the obsolete þ (pronounced thu rather than th pronounced with a harder vowel sound Theh) Most words that did begin with þ are now pronounced with a Y instead (thank William Caxton for that) but some retain the original pronunciation.

@Freedompath "Would you agree that humans have in their personalities a ‘psyche?’ " No I would not, psyche is a myth, it is simply a Greek euphemism for soul, the soul like god lacks any evidence of it's existence and so can be safely dismissed until such time as evidence is forthcoming. Humans have functioning brains that form personalities based on experience and knowledge, and in some unfortunate cases physical damage.

@Allamanda Language has been my life since the age of 8 when I was diagnosed as dyslexic, words have history, roots and meanings. I am afraid you you are the one who cannot grasp that, and why you are thus the one being called upon it by all us "old codgers" who actually do know what we are talking about. There is only one other colloquial definition of the word spiritual and that is relating to alcohol. Spiritual connotes supernatural and or religious influence, that cannot be disregarded, especially within the connotations of this article.

@FrayedBear After the "reassuring" speech made in parliament today by our minister for health and social welfare, which basically amounted to give up most of your rights and freedoms to combat the dread "VIRUS" voluntarily or else we "Impose draconian measures" (his words). Then followed up only an hour or so later by Boris the bastard assuring us all that before all this is over there probably will be legally enforced curfews, the enforced closing of pubs clubs, cinemas and theatres, as well as what amounts to internment of the over 70s for the next four months, as well as the breaking news that all this has been easily put in to place because the government had already prepared a civilian clamp down procedure and put in place civil control measure in preparation for wide scale civil unrest in the event of a no deal brexit. Paranoia is becoming a somewhat redundant term.
