Propinquity noun nearness in place; proximity.
LenHazell53 comments on Apr 12, 2021:
The difference between propinquity and proximity is very subtle but comes down to to their respective roots propinquitas meaning near and before ie. facing or can be seen approaching proximitas meaning generally near or in the vicinity Therefore something in you propinquity must be in your proximity, however something can be in your proximity without being in your propinquity, eg it can be behind you. Propinquate can also mean a blood relation in your direct line, ie. a parent, grand parent, child or grand child all other close relatives (siblings etc) are proximate

It is the foul doctrine of "original sin". The idea being that the sin of Eve in eating of the forbidden fruit is passed down through the generations to all of her decedents. Of course when believing in Adam and Eve went out of fashion, original sin came to mean that the idea that sex is inherently sinful, therefore anyone conceived by sex inherits the sexual sin of their parents lust. So, depending on your denomination, everyone is born carrying at least two Hell worthy sins from which they need the salvation of Christ to escape hell fire and damnation.

Did you witness this historic event?
LenHazell53 comments on Apr 10, 2021:
I am too young, but I did witness the first moon landing and read about Yuri Gagarin with breathless wonder as a boy. The shame being that in a plot worthy of a Dan Brown novel, once the USSR fell it was revealed Gagarin's achievement turned out to be possibly a propaganda exercise to cover the fact that Vladimir Ilyushin in the 'Rossiya' spacecraft was actually the first man to orbit earth in space but had died during his return to earth, five days before Vostok "1" was launched. Ilyushin purportedly died in a car crash on the same day Rossiya was tracked by French military radar returning to earth. To this day Russia insist that Rossiya was unmanned and that the credit go to Gagarin, undoubtedly time will tell.
This site obviously has no more worthy contributors.

LenHazell53 comments on Apr 8, 2021:
Jiddu Krishnamurti was a very odd man. His father was a member and employee of the the Theosophical Society at Adyar, his mother was dead and the boy was unofficially adopted by the Theosophical society and groomed from birth (the date of which has never been established, even he did not know it) ) to be their new messiah after it was decided he was a prophesied, magician and spiritualist. Krishnamurti walked out on them in his twenties and switched from being a mystic to a philosopher in order to be taken more seriously. Krishnamurti claimed to speak every language on Earth However most of his work was not originally written in English but a strange mix of Tamil, Latin and Hindi so is subject to multiple possible translations. This particular quote is generally accepted to mean Learning to set aside your own preconceptions and prejudices and to judge only on facts will set you among the intelligent. As his oft stated philosophy was "A vision of the whole as distinct from the part; there should never be a sectarian outlook, but always a holistic outlook free from all prejudice." But of course no one really knows, since he has been dead since 1985

LenHazell53 comments on Apr 7, 2021:
British Mooreland is often hailed by some as areas of natural beauty, but they are actually the tragic result of over eight hundred years of great land mismanagement . After th invasion of the Normans in 1066, William the first introduced the forestry laws, seizing all of the woodland (Then covering more than 37% of the British mainland) for the crown and the Barons and other nobles. This lead to the devastation of 80% of the woodland covering the British mainland for programs of ship building, town building and the stead conversion of an arboreal economy to and agricultural one, with forests cleared for meadows, grazing lands and crops. Resulting in vast areas of moorland and scrub. Land owners carried out at other times the practice of Harrying, that is driving people and entire villages out of their homes and lands in order to burn down "useless" trees in favour of either grazing lands, crop farming or cultivation of trees such as oak better suited to carpentry and charcoal, under the auspices of sheriffs and royally appointed Land Lords. It even became a practice in the middle ages for Spanish spies to sneak in to England and set fire to forests, to cripple ship building in the run up to war. The Forrest Law was finally overturned at the end of the 19th century and replaced with the Forestry Act and the establishment of the Forestry Commission to police it, when it became clear only 5.5% of Britain's woodland remained and that this was made up of about only 40 species of "useful" tree, ie fruit bearing or timber ready trees. In the hundred years plus since the establishment of the Forestry Commission, many species have been returned and the percentage of woodland has risen from 5% to 13% but much of the "Green and Pleasant" land will never be restored.
