The whole Brexit fiasco from beginning to end has proven a few things. 1 You don't need a dictatorship to oppress people if you can fool them in to democratically voting against their own best interests by appealing to their worst instincts and proclivities, so that they will oppress themselves by common consent. 2 The "big lie" still works, people will accept the most outrageous untruths if you convince them no one would ever go to so much trouble to posit and defend something so blatantly and obviously false. 3 People will not only accept the consequences of their own stupidity they will even deny it, if the only alternative is to admit your own mistakes and look like the fool you have been. 4 A determined politician can pass off false brinkmanship and stubbornness as bravery and strength if you can be sure people are to lazy to check up on the facts.

WAIFU.
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 24, 2020:
Waifu is a Niponised word, taken from the English words wife and waif. It became popular in the 1980s because the actual Japanese word for wife Tsuma, had connotations of servitude and submissiveness. The emerging feminism in Niponesse culture took offense in the same way women took offense at the old English word Wench or skivvy. In the Japanese Language all letters represent a consonant and a vowel sound combined (except for the letter n) and since there was already a well known character known as "wifee" in manga a parody of the so called Gaijin Hunter that is a Japanese woman seeking a western husband, Fu θ² suffix was applied (it is also a pun on the Chinese word Fu meaning Vice in the sexual sense). Over time Waifu has become the term for a petite slim but strong willed and intelligent female literary heroine, desirable to those who want a partner wife, not a servile wife, where as Tsuma characters are more likely to seek out a western husband (probably stuck in the 1950s mentality) to whom they can be a "good wife".
This is atrocious

How true is this opinion?
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 24, 2020:
Opinions like all else should be evidence based, if an opinion is based on false premises, or prejudices, then they can be wrong and or evil and should for the sake of truth be opposed and contested. If an opinion is based upon verifiable facts it should be accepted as factual. However if someone simply yells "That is my opinion and I am entitled to it." about any old load of tosh such as creationism, racial superiority or prejudice, then they are misusing the term opinion. They are entitled to choose to believe whatever they want to, they are not entitled to pass it off as factual, axiomatic or even valid, or to force other people to believe it or even claim it as an opinion.

What was the title of the book which first turned you on to reading?
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 23, 2020:
My personal favourite three books, that I read over and over again are **Treasure Island** By Robert Louis Stephenson **Dracula by Bram Stoker** I never fail to find something new in that book every time I read it and finally **The Sorrows of Satan by Marie Corelli ** THE best representation of Milton's Satan in literature since the original and the finest reinterpretation of the Faust myth ever. I might also give an honourable mention to **"The Mouse on the Moon"** by Leonard Wibberley simply because it is such a brilliant satire of the cold war.
What was the title of the book which first turned you on to reading?
LenHazell53 comments on Dec 23, 2020:
I was always a reader, but the book that set me on the road to being a one or two novel a week reader was Marianne Dreams by Catherine Storr. SPOILERS It is on the surface a children's novel, but in reality is a terrifying horror novel about a terminally ill 12 year old child at war with her own subconscious mind in a battle not only to survive but also to save the life of a young boy suffering the same condition with whom she has developed a psychic connection. Their claustrophobic besieged life on the dream scape is a nightmare of epic proportions against truly terrifying personifications of the disease as cyclopic living rocks as well as their own personal demons being confronted in what might be the last moments of their young lives.

LenHazell53 comments on Dec 19, 2020:
It is a very new word, dating only from the late 1980s and is a mix of Phobia ancient Greek for Fear and Kouloon the modern Greek word for Clown, simply being a hellenisation of the English word clown, the actual Greek word for clown is sklêro-paiktês (hard player or fun fighter). There maybe some connection to khleuazo an obscure Greek term meaning to be impudent.

It's a Wonderful Life is without doubt the most over rated hymn to conformity ever put on celluloid, the story of how treating yourself life shit, and submitting to authority is the only sure way to moderate contentment and how your life's only of importance because of the benefit it brings to others and society as a whole when you submit and comply utterly. You do not even have the right to die because of the damage that might do, so feel guilty until you feel better, because deluding yourself in to feeling "happy" is the best you can hope for and you should be grateful for that. It is disgusting and I hate it with a passion.
