Dowsing is an odd phenomenon.
LenHazell53 comments on Nov 2, 2020:
At the risk of wrecking my reputation as a total skeptic and cynic, I'm afraid I have good reason to at least wonder about dowsing. My father's late best friend of some forty years, a man names Denis Sheffield, worked for the north of England water board for his entire working life and after his retirement continued to work for them as a "leak finder" using a pair of precision made dowsing rods with foft foam rubber handles, with free moving mounted bearings to allow the rods to swing even when not being held, that could also be set on a custom made stand. To demonstrate that dowsing with nothing to do with him, he would mount the rods on their stand on the ground and move a plastic bowl of water under them and they would invariably cross. In tests against electronic moisture dectors he found underground fractured pipes more accurately and faster than the machines. HIs success rate was was good enough that he was employed full time for 42 years by the water board and would dowse for anyone who asked for help, but only for water or leaks. I often asked if he could find other stuff like metal or oil or even precious metals, to which he always replied that he had no idea and had never tried. "uncle" Denis never claimed supernatural powers or abilities, simply family folk wisdom, he was taught by his grandfather who used the same phenomena to tell folk were to sink wells and was a complete skeptic in all other matters. He is long dead now, unfortunately so as a mature adult I have no way to go and check on his abilities just childhood memories and a couple of old news paper cuttings from th local rag back in the seventies, still kept by my father.
Oh, lookee. RT saying USA is not democratic! Why?
LenHazell53 comments on Nov 2, 2020:
Even without reading the article I can agree, The USA like the UK and various other western countries has only a pretense at democracy. The best that can be said is that they are a representative democracy in some cases, a first past the post system in others, but the USA with it's misnomered "Electoral college" is the worst of them all. To call a system democratic where you vote to instruct a voter or collection of voters how to vote on your behalf, but they do not have to take your advice and can vote how they please regardless of the popular vote is to put it mildly fucking insane. The only thing more insane is that the voters themselves do not object to this system and willingly participate in it each and every four years.

LenHazell53 comments on Oct 20, 2020:
Very much depends on your definition of evil, it is a very sloppy and subjective word that has like many others been hijacked by religion to literally cover a multitude of "sins". Evil cannot be the opposite of good because again good is so poorly and subjectively defined. It is not precisely synonymous (no pun intended) with "Bad" or Wicked" or "Mischievous" or "naughty". Evil is more of a personal concept of that which is personally derogatory or dangerous or has deliberate negative intent against the life, well being or personal preferences of the individual making the assessment or in this case something perceived as negatively impacting on life and wellbeing generally of those living in a state of mutually approved and defined normality. Evil like good, perfection and right and wrong is more of a concept, you know it when you see it, but often it will not be universally accepted as such. The battle between pro-life and Pro-choice movements is a prime example with each side decrying the other as the very epitome of evil, and yet with both sides completely agreeing with the merits of their opponents stand point in ANY OTHER context.

Pretty words Would that they were true. Love has never won a war, suppressed a dictator, overthrown a regime, ended a conflict, or brought peace. It is perfectly possible to love a dictator, love war and to love a bigoted doctrine and many do. Because it is a fundamental mistake to presume that Love is the opposite of hate, it is not. Love is the other side of the same coin, it is just as powerful and just as dangerous, love and hate can turn in to one another in the blink of an eye. Compassion is the healer after hate is defeated, not love. Empathy not love is the mother of compassion. The true opposite of hate is outrage.

What does Nietzsche mean by “eternal recurrence”?
LenHazell53 comments on Oct 15, 2020:
Nietzsche himself did not mean anything by it, he simply commented upon the concept as expressed in Indian and Egyptian philosophy and theology. Eternal recurrence is a form of explanation for possible predestination especially in the the cosmology of the Zoroastrian religion, upon which much of "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" is based. The idea that the universe repeats itself over and over again, whether it be as a great circle or an Ouroboros serpent forever consuming its own tale is a very old idea, and has served as a basis for my science fiction stories, notably the 1990's TV series Lexx. Wherein the apocalypse of the entire universe is prophesied by a seer, not foreseeing the future, but by recalling in dreams the repetition of the distant past. Visions of the last cycle which they call the inevitable repetition of the future-past.

Applicants must have been a qualified legal professional for 15 years, a high court judge for at least 2 years (in effect meaning they must be over forty five) with an unblemished reputation. They must have no upheld complaints against them or have had no judgment overturned as biased or unjust. They have a mandatory retirement age of 70 (in effect meaning no one Justice can serve for more than 25 years), but can be fired or asked to step down for malpractice, mental incompetence, ill health or negligence. I have always found "Chosen People" to be comparable with "Master Race" as a despicably effective rallying cry for the angry envious masses, the victim culture ideologues and the violent fighter in search of a cause for which to justify the spilling of blood ( both their own and other people's)
What does accountability mean to you?
LenHazell53 comments on Oct 12, 2020:
Accountability is accepting actions have consequences for which responsibly must be taken, and that the same is applicable to all people. Integrity is a balance between personal and social obligations for the ethical protection of both. Forgiveness is for personal peace of mind, but never forget and accept forgiveness does not excuse the offenders of accountability it simply negates the self destructive desires for revenge and allows the offended to be satisfied with justice. It is impossible in an organized society or even in a tribal situation to answer to no one. Even those who live outside of a society are still answerable for their actions which impact either directly or indirectly on any individuals or social groups there of.
