Have you watched these two movies?
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 18, 2019:
I saw The Man Who Sued God a few years ago, not a bad film, but as many Australian films do it cops out a bit at the end runs out of ideas and just stops using a pathetic Deus ex Machina. The Invention Of Lying I will not watch on principle as I refuse to put money in the pocket or add prestige to the name of the human dung heap who stars in and directed it.

Thought I knew what a caterpillar is. New definition.
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 17, 2019:
Interesting this is actually a better definition for the word Caterpillar than the commonly used one That which we call caterpillar was commonly called a coleworm up until the 17th century. Piller means ravager of plunderer (same root word as pillage) the cat actually means cat since the damage done by moth and butterfly lava was never seen being done and so was believed to be done by wild cats. Hence caterpillar Unknown Ravager of crops
Chimera A fanciful mental illusion or fabrication.

The Chimera was originally a monstrous hybrid in Greek mythology part lion, part goat and part dragon, today it means any hybrid creature in fiction. Not to be confused with cimera a flourish on a hat or helmet or Kymeria an evil night spirit, or dream invader.

How closely tied are pride and confidence, in your opinion?
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 17, 2019:
It is hard to say as the word pride has changed meaning over the centuries and is these days inextricably entwined with the word proud, with which it has no etymological connection at all but is used interchangeably with, especially between Proud and prideful. Pryde or prȳte originally as has been pointed out elsewhere was a sin, akin to snobbery or epicaricacy, it meant to judge yourself by your possessions, success, wealth or natural attributes by comparing them favourably to other people and deriding those other for their presumed inferiority or misfortune. It was considered in almost every society to be so despicable that it almost always was punishable by death. Among the native Americans a warrior who was so prideful of his skills or possessions, would be taken, sown up in a sack with a skunk or wolverine and thrown in the river (some times his nose would be cut off first.) Confidence on the other hand is a private thing, an understanding of ones own limitations and when not to exceed them.

LenHazell53 comments on Jun 15, 2019:
I have had dogs all my life, and they do learn to associate facial expressions with emotions, like wise they come to recognize tones of voice. They have and amazing sense of time and routine expecting certain actions at certain times. They are pack animals and once the family alpha is imprinted on them, they will emulate him or her, even at times trying to emulate pack language, laughter, verbal snapping, simple words like yes and no etc, like wise subconsciously humans also pick up dog body language and sounds, clicking the tongue, huffing a greeting, tilting the head to the left to indicated paying attention even growling. It is even more pronounced with cats who are sly little buggers that will manipulate humans without their even knowing.

Shakespeare wrote a whole play around the subject "Othello" based on "A Moorish Captain" by Cinthio, published in 1565. Outside of religious communities interracial relations and even marriage were rare but not really frowned upon. It makes me laugh to see for example the queen of Sheba played on screen by Gina Lollobrigida, who went to great pain to explain how the Ethiopian queen MIGHT have been white but was none the less unable to excuse her being Italian. (To be fair a black actress Vivica A. Fox finally did get to play Sheba in 1997)

LenHazell53 comments on Jun 12, 2019:
You are basically advocating for what used to be called Secondary Modern Schools. Up until the early 1970's all children in the UK forced to take an exam call the "11+" at teh age of 11, on the strength of this their future schooling was determined. Those who passed the 11+ won a place in Grammar School, where the expectation was to graduate to white or Blue collar professions and careers or go on to college and university. The curriculum was based on academics and perfecting of essential skills such as high quality writing, mathematic, foreign and classical languages and the sciences. Those who failed attended Secondary Modern, where the curriculum was geared to preparing boys for apprenticeships and girls for housewifely proficiency. English language rather than literature was taught, arithmetic instead of maths and physical education formed the core of the school, with a choice of woodworking, metal working or domestic science (Cookery and housework) making up the rest of the lessons. The two tier system was abolished in 1975 and replaced with comprehensive schools a decision lamented for years and now replaced again with technical academies and specialist school.

They and their ideas are a waste of human existence and so they are best left to their hateful fantasies with the silly delusion that they have won the argument after being faced with one more fact they will not accept, that they are a fuckwit, then a good way to finish the conversation is to descend to the level of the moron and identify them as such before departing.

EMPATHIC vs EMPATHETIC?
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 9, 2019:
According to many dictionaries empathetic and empathic are synonyms, but in the manner I have always used them, and seemingly etymologically they are not. Bother are contractions from the Greek Empathic made up from empatheia (being in a specific state of emotion) and pathetos (prone to suffering) Empathetic made up from empatheia (being in a specific state of emotion) and pathetikos (subject to suffering) The difference is subtle but I would suggest they connote a matter of perspective I am empathic to your feelings (I am likely to share your feelings) You are empathetic to my feelings (you are perceived to share my feelings)

# Knurd, Being knurd is to be (un)intoxicated with so much strong Coffee to such an extent that all such comfort stories are stripped away from the mind. This makes you see the world in a way 'nobody ever should', in all its harsh reality. People generally find being knurd excruciating, as their comfortable illusions are stripped away and all of life's terrors are exposed. When accidentally knurd, people hurry to get alcohol into them to restore the balance. In fact, they generally go too far, getting very drunk in order to a) make certain they aren't knurd, and b) get so comfortably illusory that the mind can't recall those terrible realities. LenHazell53 comments on Jun 8, 2019:
It is not that we cannot, because we obviously do, it is that we should not, it is illogical and it is extremely dangerous to do so, but it is convenient and if historical anthropology teaches us nothing else, there are two facts it does teach a) it is that populations en masse will always take the path of least resistance and B) that those who actively seek power are those least well suited to have it. So why do we do it? Because it is inevitable, even in an anarchy the scum will rise to the top and call itself the cream. It will offer compliance and call it freedom, ignorance and call it common sense, and hegemony and call it peace. Because most people want neither the responsibility that comes with leadership or the restraints of conscience to be a just leader. So will gladly hand it over to someone else who they can moan and bitch about, blame when things go badly and praise when they go well. In exchange for this they will allow a certain amount of corruption and leeway with acceptable cultural constraints

GOP Lawmakers Plan For 51st “Christian State” To Be Based On Biblical Law [patheos.com]
LenHazell53 comments on Jun 1, 2019:
Great idea but with a few small changes 1) The Liberty state has to be on a volcanic island (to prove god will keep his own safe) 2) ALL Christians must go and live there, those who choose to remain must keep their faith in their own homes no where else, make no attempt to stand for office or impose their religious ideas on government state, federal or local, any attempt to do so will lead to immediate deportation to liberty for the offender. 3) Liberty will be allowed no army, national guard or other military or police, no guns and nothing that could be deemed to be in opposition to gods own peace which he personally will maintain among the true believers. 3a) No hospitals, doctors or medical facilities of any sort that might interfere with the will of god, god must not be denied souls when he calls them to him. 4)Witch and heretic burnings must use only renewable sources of clean fuel 5) They must at their own expense put up a large wall around the whole island to keep the rest of the world safe from them. 6) the last one of them to flee or die, must please turn out the lights.

I've heard Gonzo used colonially to mean an inferior of slapdash version, often used to replace the term "cowboy" as a derogatory judgement. EG You've had some right Gonzo builders in here, you'll be lucky of the whole lot doesn't fall down in a month.

Forced Sterilization in Puerto Rico not ended until 1970's. [stanford.edu]
LenHazell53 comments on May 30, 2019:
Not just Puerto Rico. You do know Some states still have forced sterilization laws in effect, such as Washington state. Even compensation payments for the victims of forced sterilization under the authorization of the Eugenics Board of North Carolina was not authorized until 2013 In North Carolina to provide justice and compensate 7,600 victims who were forcibly sterilized by the State of North Carolina from 1929 to 1974 in the state's eugenics program; $10 million set aside to be awarded beginning in June 2015 In 2003, Douglas Diekema wrote in Volume 9 of the journal Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Research Reviews that "involuntary sterilization ought not be performed on mentally retarded persons who retain the capacity for reproductive decision-making, the ability to raise a child, or the capacity to provide valid consent to marriage." those who do not retain the capacity can be sterilised on the say so of their family or the advice of their doctor. The American Journal of Bioethics published an article, in 2010, that concluded the interventions including hysterectomy and surgical removal of the breast buds from mentally and physically disabled children was permissible In June 2014, The inability to pay for the cost of raising children was given as a reason courts to have ordered coercive or compulsory sterilization.a Virginia judge ruled that a man on probation for child endangerment must be able to pay for his seven children before having more children; the man agreed to get a vasectomy as part of his plea deal. In 2013, an Ohio judge ordered a man owing nearly $100,000 in unpaid child support to "make all reasonable efforts to avoid impregnating a woman" (a vasectomy) this amounts to "constructive sterilization" for men unlikely to make child support payments. 148 female prisoners in two California institutions were sterilized between 2006 and 2010 in a supposedly voluntary program, but it was determined that the prisoners did not give consent to the procedures leading to the September 2014, California enacted Bill SB 1135 that bans sterilization in correctional facilities, unless the procedure shall be required in a medical emergency to preserve inmate's life. Discussions have yet to begin regarding forced sterilization in other states.
It's soo true!!
