A 400 mile electric car right now would be a good idea because when the roll out comes you would be almost ready to replace the battery pack anyway. As for the time to charge the fast chargers can add 200 miles of charge to your car in 15 minutes now....

Actually that is coming very soon.... They are developing a lithium/Oxygen battery now that will have three times the capacity of the best batteries on the market now. They have ones that are already there but with a liquid barrier and both outlast as well as outperform any other battery in their size at least three to one but they are working on a solid barrier type due to safety concerns. They don't want leakages or explosions. Figure that car with the 200 mile range will then have 600 miles or the one with 400 mile range will then be 1200 miles... They are saying that they should be on the market in about two to three years. Right now the liquid versions are extremely powerful and they are completely recyclable but have a usable life of nearly 100 cycles but this is far better than the old benchmark of about 20...
