@AnneWimsey Most of the time this wasn't the case as well as leaving children undereducated and forced into farming or low wage jobs. Today it is ridiculous to continue this "tradition" because there is far too much for children to learn we need year round schooling because there is far too much for children to learn so they can live better more productive lives. Year round schooling would have the additional benefit of increasing the pay for school teachers so they could make a living wage.

She is part Siamese and very beautiful so everyone in the neighborhood was trying to catch her as if she was a dog.... It took me months to gain her trust and get her inside but her personality makes it all worth the effort it took. Also she is no longer tiny she weighs about 18 pounds and is still a gentle and loving girl who wouldn't harm anything but a cricket...

Pretty much the opinion of that time was "if she is old enough to bleed she is old enough to breed." And remember that in the US in the state of Delaware up until very recently (2018) allowed children to marry and in Massachusetts a girl can still marry at the age of 12 with parental or court permission... I find that to be primitive and unacceptable myself but am not in a position to change these laws.

Atari was sued for copyright infringement when their game hit the market. I wish I still owned the home version or better yet the arcade version as well as they are both worth a small fortune to collectors today... It was ready for market and offered to several manufacturers in 1969 when Magnavox agreed to manufacture it and released it on the market in 1971. Some disagreement on weather Atari developed it independently or just "borrowed" the programming for the game as everything was analog back then it would have been difficult to figure out. But given that the date of the patents and the games being so close in operation and design including controllers Atari eventually lost the lawsuit.

@FrayedBear DC is better for short runs than long ones. Nobody uses DC except for off the grid applications. For all intents and purposes the neutral (white wire) is a ground the green wire is your local ground is all. Keep in mind that unless the power passes through the brain or heart or of sufficient amperage it is unlikely to kill you. I have received a shock while working on 220 volt wiring with 50 amps and all it did was tingle. Of course I was wearing rubber soled shoes and not touching anything that would have grounded me elsewhere on my body. DC can be fun I used to play with automotive coils and once took a jolt from an old Cadillac with a 150KV coil which stung a bit but was extra fun because I was touching someone who was leaning over the engine compartment trying to tell me how to fix the problem with his car when all he really knew was how to put gas in it and drive.
