Religion enforces so called "traditional roles" but if you look at the cultures of Egypt and Sparta over 2,000 years ago both had substantial equality for women and neither had a problem with women being unsafe especially in the case of Sparta where women were the military reserves and trained the children for combat. In those days if you tried to rape a Spartan woman she would simply cut your balls off and feed them to you... In both the cultures I mention women had the freedom to divorce abusive or bums of husbands, handle their own money, own a business, and even write their own wills, women in both cultures had roles in the government as well and it wasn't until Christianity took over in both countries when women started being abused. Hypatia of Alexandra was a good example of this being a victim of Nitrian monks order by Cyril the Patriarch to rape and murder her as an example to the women of her time...

We have never actually had capitalism in the US even when we were just colonies. Capitalism consists of "small companies that compete with each other" without corporate interference. The colonies were founded by corporations. The only way true capitalism can be present is without government or any business larger than a single store/location once they grow larger capitalism ceases to exist and becomes impossible. Larger business entities create a business environment called plutocracy which gains government influence through money and social power. Once that happens you end up in the same position eventually as any fascist or imperialist country with corporations running the show (this includes churches which are corporate entities and largely unregulated). Socialism is not a form of government it is an economic system that can be attached to most forms of government that aren't overly restrictive which is why the wealthy hate it so much because it empowers people instead of leaving them with all of it. The real problem in the US is that socialism isn't understood because the rich and powerful propagandise the issue so much. Unions are a socialist institution where people empower themselves by joining together in order to force the rich to treat them with dignity and respect. Many systems have been called socialist which were communist like the USSR, Cuba under Castro, Pol Pot was communist as well. Nazi Germany was the flip side and was fascist which is far right-wing and was a form of plutocracy along with Spain under Franco and Italy under Mussolini who defined fascism as a religion and said that "Fascism is a marriage between corporations and the state." Bernie Sanders defines socialism correctly as "getting something back for the taxes you pay" and that is all it really is. People banding together to get something back for their hard work and the taxes they pay. Social Security is the most popular program in the country and is socialism which is why the political right-wing wants to destroy it so badly.... Adam Smith who first defined capitalism hated the idea of it and called it cruel and evil...

I am from California and would never vote for her because she is nothing but a Republican pretending to be a Democrat. She takes money from corporate interests like Wells Fargo, Time Warner/Comcast (now Spectrum), and others to betray her constituents. As AG she took money from a White Collar Defense Attorney and refused to sue Trump university and others. I look forward to her being primaried out next time around and seeing her whine....

There are only two reasons for being against abortion. The first is personal opinion which means you don't have the right to force yours on everyone else which is something idiot conservatives never learn. The second is religious which not only is true in this case as we are a secular democracy but also results fro the illiteracy of Christians who never bother to read their bible even thought the often have several in their home. The bible itself is decidedly pro-abortion and can be readily proven by reading Numbers 5... From there on it becomes far more gruesome in its pro-abortion stance where the Christian god orders his followers to 'cut the unborn from the womb and kill it by sword....'

From the start because the stuff they were telling me to believe was just plain stupid with no evidence to support any of it so I read the bible and asked them questions in Sinday skool until they threw me out. The my parents tried taking me to the main church and the minister tried to feed me a wafer and wine so I told him I didn't want to be a cannibal after which they told my parents I wasn't welcome and they never took me back. That was at the age of 9..... Then at 12 they told me I was adopted which explained a lot because for years I had been looking for the corners of the rubber masks as I thought I had been kidnapped by an exceptionally retarded alien species for study...

Absolutely not Jesus was an invented religion by the Romans during the Jewish revolt. It was an attempt to pacify the Jews who had in turn invented their religion after 722 BCE when the Assyrians conquered the region and exiled them. Until that point in history the people of that region had been Pagans and had worshiped fertility symbols (stone penises, boobs, butts, etc) and their largest structures were no larger than 20' X 20'. This is confirmed by both archaeology and the carbon dating of the Dead Sea Scrolls which are the first writings of Judaism. The dates of the first writings of and acceptance as a state religion of Christianity are very close and were obscured by the state on purpose. The bible itself is a confirmation of this as much of the history is faked and twisted to suit the needs of Rome itself. As was mentioned before the Romans borrowed and invented religions on a "needs based" basis and Jesus was a combination of Greek, Roman, and Egyptian gods with a name change, serial numbers filed off, a new paint job, and overnight a new religion emerged. Of course those gods had also been invented and were based on Hinduism and the Demigod Krishna (also known as "the Krist").
