Question 10: If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 14, 2018:
Both of my parents came from solid middle class backgrounds yet raised my brother and I in poverty for the most part. My mother was adopted and a single child whereas my father was the youngest, Both could have gone to college but refused. Instead they forced a marriage by getting pregnant with me My parents were barely 17 when I was born and my mother was someone that should not have had kids so I have my issues yet their weaknesses exposed me to a way of life in my early years that shaped my opinions today. My father was a musician and we traveled a lot. I spent a lot of time around societal misfits and had a level freedom thanks to my mother's neglect that made me the unsheep that I am today. I was not exposed to religion at all during this time either. Just peace, love, and people on mind altering substances. I was never abused by anyone during this time. My mother's second husband was a wannabe cult leader with an inappropriate interest in me. I left at 16 to avoid rape. During the 7 years they were married, I was forced to memorize entire chapters of the bible and submit to quizzes. Questions at sunday school got me beaten. She married her 3rd husband when I was 17 and pregnant with the man I ran off with to avoid her second husband but he is a great guy. They're still married nearly 40 years later but I am very much aware that if he didn't like me, she wouldn't care. I sometimes think my life would have been better with dad despite his heavy drug use because my younger half brother was much happier than I was but he was also patriarchal and I may not have fared as well as my brother. I hated my former step father so defying him was easy. Anything I think about changing makes me immediately think of something that would be different now. I guess I wish I had been around my maternal grandmother more because she did love me but since I wasn't around her much until I was 17, I wasn't aware of it. I am being quite verbose today. That shit needs to stop LOL
just joined the group.
Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 14, 2018:
I wanna be you someday LOL I feel that what I am doing now will pay off when Im retired. As a teen of the 70s, I did a lot of walking because there were no rides to had, and not everyone had a phone assuming they were even indoors to answer one. would walk 3 miles to find out that my friend was at the park another mile away whereby I would run to catch her. In the 80s I had kids to chase after but by the 90s I had the net and older kids so I got soft and lazy. I started walking and hiking outside here in Florida about 3 years ago due to geocaching but now I am biking to build endurance and strength. Because I want to be the one to say I am 75 but my body thinks Im 50

Do you display any symbols of your humanist philosophy?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 11, 2018:
I have a happy humanist pin I wear on my uniform at work. I have a trailer hitch cover on my truck that has the darwin fish humping the xtian fish which has not really be noticed since my hitch is a short one. I don't on the house because my daughter and grandkids live here and don't wish them to be targeted.
Question 7: Do you have a secret hunch about how you will die?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 11, 2018:
Not so secret: I will die of a heart attack trying to beat the shit out of a modern republican. Seriously, I dunno. I work in retail in an area primarily of retirees and I see these people in carts or shuffling along and I don't want that to be me. About 3 years ago I started walking outside to condition myself for climbing a Mayan pyramid. Never stopped, and now I do a 3.5 mile bike in 20 mins every day off, joined a hiking group and I know Im getiing stronger. About 6 months ago, I started on the diet change which has been less successful because I suddenly developed a sweet tooth a few years ago. Im a cancer survivor and I suspect cancer will be the culprit
I almost forgot today's question.

Question 3: Before making a telephone call, do you ever rehearse what you are going to say? Why?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 11, 2018:
I do if it's important or of a sensitive nature. Or if I fear I will lose my temper; I will then practice various possible scenarios
Question 2: Would you like to be famous? In what way?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 11, 2018:
I guess not. I would prefer to be anonymously rich
Question 1: 1. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 11, 2018:
That answer would vary day to day. Perhaps even hour to hour. Today is a day off and I am home when normally I would have been at work for over 2 hours by now so my mood is lighter. My first thought when reading this was to answer Jason Momoa On a bad day at work it could be the CEO of my company lol

Do you prefer home-ownership or renting?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 9, 2018:
I was denying myself extras due to my determination to leave my daughter a paid off house or at least a low enough balance to afford. The thing is that once her children are gone, she wouldn't need this house and likely wouldn't even want it by then. Tunnel vision kept me from seeing that before. My house also needs a lot done to it but now my decisions are based on MY future needs and it is quite likely I will sell the house and move when my grandkids leave. Will your children need the house? Do they want to live in it when you're gone or will it be something they to attend to as your heirs?
Well the Midterms have passed and we now have a Democratic house and Republican senate.

Hi all Just decided on a topic for a defunct group I took over.
Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 7, 2018:
Same advice my father gave me which has stood the test of time: If you want your kids to come to you, don't freak out when they do. Sounds easier than it was. When my kids asked me about drugs, I gave them the facts before asking if they were using. When my daughter thought she was pregnant at 15, my first comment was about why she didnt use a condom (they did but failed to hold on upon withdrawal). My added advice is: Do not assume they are doing what they are asking about. The above mentioned drug questions were due to the D.A.R.E. program at school not answering all their questions If you cannot be calm, buy yourself some time with the "I need to give this some thought and will get back to you" but get back to them quickly because you want to be the one that supplies that info first. Not gonna join the group just to be able to make the occasional post and I am a grandma now so my advice may not be practical for the day to day issues.
Being a shameless point whore tonight.

Election 2018: Breaking Down the Shell Game of Politics [ghionjournal.
Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 7, 2018:
I dunno. It has some merit but Trump is oceans away from any previous politician. I don't know if it will ultimately be for the worse or the better- although my bet would be on the former, but I am fairly certain that politics have turned a corner and we will not be going back to the status quo this writer described.

The mid term elections won't stop Trump.
Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 7, 2018:
I'm bummed AF too but I disagree with you. There were historic levels of voters in many areas and the house gained at least 30 more women; many of which are of color. Progressive initiatives were passed here and there in addition to some very close races. I live in Florida and believe there isn't much to be happy about today but we did enable the restoration of voting for former felons which at this time amounts to 1.5 million. Blue lost to red by about 100k votes Will Trump prevail in whatever he tries to do? Likely but then again he is a petulant child and there may be just enough resistance to either get him to quit or fuck up enough to turn a couple of republicans
Hi ! I hope everyone is voting or has voted. Florida is an important state!
Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 6, 2018:
I also voted by mail and verified that it was tabulated. Hopefully it was tabulated correctly.

Lucy_Fehr comments on Nov 4, 2018:
I've taken it several times in my life and can't tell you what I was labeled or even if they all came out the same. Since this is something that we tally on ourselves, I would say that the bias is too difficult to overcome for most people. I would say we are far too likely to answer as we wish we are rather than how we actually are.

Since I live in Florida, I am nearly always in flip flops and prefer being barefoot, I am very likely to kick mine off whether they want me to or not LOL Enclosed footwear is another matter. If I see a pile of shoes at the door and they have light carpet or brilliantly gleaming floors, I typically take them off but in the absence of some obvious hint that I should, I probably won't If you prefer that people remove their shoes, you could post a decorative or whimsical sign
