Have you ever stopped reading a book, listening to a song, or watching a show because it added ...
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 11, 2018:
Not a song. Too many great songs mention a prayer or god briefly to stop listening. I did stop watching NCIS-NO because it got religious fast. Then regular NCIS started up then finally LA had to go. Story lines were stale anyway.
Is everyone feeling sad about not having a romantic partner on Valentines Day?

Do you have a particular neighbor that can be annoying?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 10, 2018:
Not yet LOL I've had this house 3 years now and nothing is really bothering me. A few irritants here and there. Many years ago when I was young even more immature, I allowed myself to be drawn into a war with the neighbor one side. A pair of unsupervised teen age girls. And their unsupervised dog. I could write a short story about the back and forth with those two. Some of it tragic, some of it funny, most of it unnecessary but I was in my early 30's and going through a bad time. But there was this one thing: someone clued me that they were gonna egg my house. I had a small boat in driveway and had a dozen eggs sitting in it. For a couple of days. Here in south Florida. When the poor dumb boys they suckered drove up late that night, and pulled way up into the yard, and rolled down their windows, I threw my eggs into their car

Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 10, 2018:
Nothing. If they want to go, fuck 'em I did have someone pretend to have cancer in order to get me back. I didn't go back. Our friends tore me up for the callousness. Even my friends admitted it was kinda cold. Only one person had the decency to apologize when the truth came out.
Do your socks match? Always?

Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 10, 2018:
I call myself a progressive yet I would not support a ban on guns. I am also for the death penalty in cases where there is no doubt of guilt and little likelihood of rehabilitation. I'm talking serial killers and cold blooded murder here, not people convicted on the unreliable eye witness testimony. I am pro immigration and think the dreamers should stay but I also think immigrants need to learn English I support health care for all, affordable higher education, most social programs although I think soda, chips, candy etc should not be permitted on EBT but toilet paper and fem hygiene should. Pro choice, pro equal rights, pro marijuana I am not so sure that businesses should pay an 80% tax as much as the loopholes that allow them to pay NO tax should be closed. If they do business here, they need to be taxed here I'm sure I will think of the rest after hitting submit but you get the idea.

Psychological Difference Between Liberals and Conservatives February 5, 2018 by Ed Brayton
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 9, 2018:
This is been my observation. I grew up in a politically conservative environment and the same people who use racist slang and denigrate super poor people will also donate their last $10 to a fund raiser for one of their own kind They will also babysit, give rides, and many other kind things which is probably why we can't get through to them about some issues. They really are "nice" people if you are one of them
Last part to my heart story.
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 8, 2018:
Sounds a lot like survivors guilt to me. I survived cancer but there were others there that didn't. My boyfriend's mother was diagnosed with colon cancer a year before mine. I had a very curable form caught early so I came through easily and she died not long after my treatment in part because her medicaid kept refusing to pay her treatment and she stopped going because her kids were putting the treatments on credit cards. I felt some guilt because I had insurance and received top notch care All you can do is make the best of this second chance you have in whatever way you can.

I have to have a plumber come rescue me tomorrow and it's gonna cost $90 an hour.
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 7, 2018:
Good thing I did call a plumber because I had to have a new faucet and he had to use a hacksaw to get the old off LOL The dishwasher is not a plumbing issue but he did tell me what it commonly is so I may be able to do that myself. The owner came out, spent half hour taking stuff apart and poking around and told me I needed new faucet after not being to replace cartridge since he didnt have one and I did not know the brand. Said to buy a moen and he would have his nephew come out and install it on the same service ticket. It was a mess under there from all kinds of jury rigging the previous owner's roommate's deadbeat son- a story for another time had done. Nephew is a a handyman on the side so after he finished we discussed the other stuff I want or need to do. When I opened the door I was shocked at how much he resembles my oldest son. I was charged for 1 hour of labor of $90. I did spend $208 on the faucet but it's a nice faucet and now I have a soap dispenser as well. Yeah sometime's it is the little things. Now if only a decent set of cabinets would fall into my lap. LOL

Can black people be racist?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 7, 2018:
I think a better word may be bigoted or prejudiced in which case, absolutely they can be. Two of my grandchildren have a black father and one has an Chinese mother. My asian grandson is only in kindergarten so hasn't been out and about enough to notice issues. Since I look younger, the black children are assumed to be my children and I have experienced bigotry from some black people but frankly, I receive more from white people. No doubt my daughter has had the same experience. But in all honesty, I tend to assume all rednecks are prejudiced despite being raised in that culture. Perhaps because of it because I used to be somewhat prejudiced and have said some fucked up shit when I was young
Really glad for this community.
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 7, 2018:
History and other cultures Absolutely love both. I also geocache but it's not so interesting in my area. I did rent a jeep and cached in Cozumel and Grand Cayman although my daughter drove while I navigated so I got to experience history, culture and geocaching
I just got my first paycheck with the new tax cuts in effect.

I can still deduct student loan interest and mortgage interest and but if my insurance premiums go up by 10% that will go down to about $1.60 or $83 per year. I have been feeling a bit of anxiety over what is to come and this $83 bucks is not gonna help me

I feel like the atheist community needs to do more charity work. Any suggestions?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 7, 2018:
Yeah, many smaller churches in small towns do a lot of charity work which actually does help people even if it is tied to religion. There are atheists and humanist presences on Kiva and the beyond belief foundation is another but my local humanist and atheist groups are so small that all monies collected go to operating expenses. They do some volunteer work- particularly the retired academics and teachers but they are all older so you won't find them building houses and such. I am looking for a charity to do volunteer work for and religion has that stuff locked down in my area My granddaughter had begged me to pay for her to join a running group that has a local chapter then decided not to because her friends decided not to. I called them and donated it to a child that has the desire and aptitude but lacks the funds. I never would have thought to do that had my granddaughter not pulled her little stunt. It didn't occur to me label myself as a humanist either but then again I was annoyed with my granddaughter soooooo. I think I will do that every year from now on and perhaps that is all that I can do in this area for now.
Who else will ignore Valentine's day?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 7, 2018:
As I am in retail, I am pretty cynical about what I call VD ayyyy My duties are inventory control/ pricing integrity related so I will be tasked with handling the markdowns. I will get the grandkids their favorite candy and they are fine with it because they understand that they get twice as much by waiting a day. My last 3 relationships which ranged over a 20+ year period were also in retail so even though we made token attempts, we were both of the same mindset I am one of those people that think if you have to be forced to show appreciation on a holiday, then your relationship has issues
A Southern custom no one, so far, has been able to explain to me. What are the rules?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 7, 2018:
Yes it is a southern thing and a sign of respect for people that too close for the formal Mrs/Mr/Miss Smith yet not a member of the immediate family. I've noticed that black people adhere to it more than whites do. For example, I have known my daughter's best friend who is 37 since she was about 12. She herself usually calls me mom but her children call me miss sherry. I would rather they call me just sherry but since I understand the why, I deal with it.
Have you ever been annoyed by a question or comment you received from religious people?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 7, 2018:
Most of it used to annoy me when I was younger but not it rarely does as I will attempt to get them to think about it. There are two things that spring to mind however that I find interesting. When I survived cancer, I hear a lot of god saved me for a reason. I typically respond with then god gave me cancer as well but I credit the cancer institute and well trained doctors for my cure. The other is "you believe we are descended from monkeys?" Whereby I respond with no, we share a common ancestor. Many of them look surprised and exhibit curiosity.

Who had their infant child circumcised and why?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 6, 2018:
My son was circumcised in 1989 because it was the accepted practice and his father wanted it done.He was a preemie and it wasn't done until he was 6 months old and I very nearly backed out When my daughter in law was pregnant 6 years ago the subject came up and my son thanked me for following through. My oldest grandson was not circumcised when he was born in 1999 because his father was from Europe and not circumcised; my daughter wanted him to look like his father. There was a medical issue and he had to be circumcised when he was 3 and it was horrible for him.

I have reservations about women in combat yet I want them to be able to, etc.

Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 5, 2018:
Lucy Fehr I was named for the Franke Valley song and for some reason hated my name. Wanted Michelle for some reason. When I was a teen, people called me sher which also irritated me because Cher was a big thing at the time. I'm completely happy with my name now. I was barely 17 when my daughter was born and named her Misty which I regret although at 37 she says she is still fine with it. I had my next one nearly 10 years later so he got an adult sounding name of Mitchell and goes by Mitch. I use Lucy Fehr at work. Or Lucyfer
What types of things do you take note of and recall easily?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 5, 2018:
I memorize large volumes of info every week, flush it and memorize more. I think it is an innate skill because I excelled at it from the moment I started doing my current job which has been over 30 years. I heard somewhere that it is called working memory. As for personal life, I will either remember every detail or none of it. I'm not sure what criteria will ensure retention.

Purpose
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 5, 2018:
I don't know anymore. I feel like I have no sense of purpose currently. I have always had goals and still do but my current goals are vague and I feel a sense of dissatisfaction with my life. I applied to help with an anti-poverty group on Friday despite not being able to attend their orientation due to work. Hopefully we can work something out since the way this group runs is in my wheelhouse. The grandkids Im helping to raise are becoming older and need less attention, I had few friends but have had to give up on them due to racist bullshit and I realize that I am likely depressed and lonely so do not want to make any life changes until I come out of it. To circle back to original question, I need to stop spending all my time online or watching tv from my bedroom and do something fulfilling.

So far my type has been recovering from something and sure I would keep them on the wagon which of course I failed to do. No commonalities in looks or even gender. None were unattractive in appearance and all were charming enough that I looked like the bad guy when it all went to shit. I have been single for about 7 years and my criteria is so specific now that I doubt I will ever be in a relationship again.
Being Completely Honest, Is There A Bible Or Cross Anywhere In Your Home Right Now?

My daughter was surprised and I told her she could have it but she is waiting to inherit the entire chest. Perhaps secretively hoping I will read or something. Reading the bible causes atheism lol

Not really. I believe that we may find someone that we are compatible with but haven't most of us been the perfect for us person more than once in our lives? And I realize that there have been people that hit the jackpot and remained together for a lifetime but we don't truly know how happy they were inside.

Are you for tipping or anti- tipping syndrome?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 2, 2018:
I have friends that have been servers their entire lives and know a lot about how it works so I always tip well even if the service was less than stellar, I don't work on Thanksgiving- which I don't celebrate or Christmas but also do not wish to cook so I take my daughter and grand-kids to breakfast and daughter cooks a meal later. I have always felt torn about this practice because I feel like mothers are missing shit with their children so I tip insanely high on any holiday that I eat out on. If I go to Golden Corral, I tip 20 bucks. A few years ago my grandchildren peeked at the server as we left and were so happy with the servers reaction that they chip in if they have cash on them. It feels good and assuages my guilt LOL I have a friend that gets out a calculator and tips 15% to the penny no matter how the service was.

At a certain age, should people be re-tested for their ability to drive?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 2, 2018:
Absolutely yes they should be tested regularly after a certain age. My grandmother got cancer and gave hers up willingly when she became too sick to drive. I was Tboned 15ish years ago by a 74 year old woman who did not see my hunter green at 9am and rammed me right behing my seat with an ancient pontiac. Destroyed my car and I have permanent issues with my neck Last month a friend was side swiped by a 90 something old woman who never realized she had hit someone. Fell asleep while the cops were running her info. I hear stories like the above time and time again. My insurance company told me years ago that the elderly are the cause of most claims. Texting and driving have replaced that now I'm told

Didnt see him again til I was 18. Had a falling out a few years later and didnt have contact until I was 28 My brother had died the year before with things unresolved between us so Dad and I were working on our issues but I have no idea how he would have felt.

Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 2, 2018:
I'm running into the same issue. There are plenty of environmental/nature things here in Florida that are not overtly religious but not much for helping people. There is no way I will escape the religious component completely because religious people do happen to volunteer but if they don't make god a part of their mission statement, I can deal.
So, I'm trying to buy a house for the first time.
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 2, 2018:
I would think that a woman would be impressed by you taking care of your mother but then again I'm older and a large number of my generation are in a similar situation. As a woman I will say that if a girl would pass on you because you are helping your mother, she isn't worth bothering with. My ex bought a house for his parents although he also lived in it and although there were some issues we had to work around, I admired him for taking care of them. I second the granny flat idea if she is able to take care of herself but they are more expensive to buy- If you are going for new construction, dual masters are becoming popular

I belong to both the Humanist and Atheist meet up groups with the Humanist one being an actual 501c but haven't attended a meeting in about a year. Most of them are in their 70's and up and the activities are rather sedate for me. I pay my dues however just in case.
Opinions, experience, thoughts wanted.

Pro tip (no not really) if you go to the beauty supply and buy the semi permanent grey hair dye liquid, your hair will become lavender. I don't photograph well when I'm trying to selfie right after daybreak while covered in bug spray and sweat

Does anyone name their cars and trucks

I had a 2000 Xterra- the first year they made them. I used to call it Ecksy When it was time to trade her in, I didn't care for the current model and had always wanted a pick-up so got a Frontier. I call it the very original and unique name of My Precious although is also referred to as my geomobile when around geo cachers.
What was one of your most embarrassing moments?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 1, 2018:
When I was 19ish, I threw a co-worker/friend under the bus to protect one that I was closer to. She was standing right behind without my knowledge and quit. Threatened to come back and beat my ass etc. For years I saw her around town and she would make a point of refusing to acknowledge me. It has been 35 years and I still feel bad about it but it has also kept me from doing it again
Is anyone else on this site asexual?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 1, 2018:
My sex drive is on the low side and I've wondered if I might be somewhere on the spectrum.
Have you ever been told you look like someone famous?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 1, 2018:
When I was young I looked like Joan Jett. Nowadays? Roseanne
I recently had a very in depth convo with a friend that has been my friend for over thirty years.
Lucy_Fehr comments on Feb 1, 2018:
When my daughter started liking black boys as a teen, I was concerned because I knew it would make life difficult for her since we lived in a small conservative town. Perhaps the fact that I had been in a same sex relationship and suffered harassment for it primed me to be more accepting but I also like to think that I loved my daughter enough to be ok with whoever she ended up with Her father on the other hand called her horrible names and told her when she was pregnant with the second one that he would kill the fucking monkey if he could get away with it. Which is why I have previously said on a different thread that I would run him over if I could get away with it.
If you ever attended church, did you ever pay tithe?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Jan 31, 2018:
As children we were each given a dollar to put into the plate which we did but I have never been in church as an adult except for a wedding or funeral. And cub scout meetings held in one during non hours so I have never given any of my own money to a church.
I just shared with a friend of 35 yr, that I am on Agnostic.

I work in a retail grocery store and I have seen people bring their dogs in on a leash, in a purse, in their arms and sit them in carts, walk along the store getting in others path, urinating on the floor and in one case, I saw a woman pick up a package of chicken, let her dog lick it and put it back. I made a point of picking up the chicken in front of her and taking it away but shitgoddamfuck that pissed me off NONE of the above described animals had a vest on. What pisses me off is that we have a policy regarding non service animals which is clearly posted yet nobody has the sac to tell the customers they cant bring the dog in or at least not let them lick the damn food or piss on the floor. I can't believe some of the teacup varieties haven't been hurt by another shoppers cart
Does this bother you?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Jan 30, 2018:
Im boycotting him. My daughter couldn't believe I refused a sub that was free simply because it would come from there. I said I have to be true to my moral code. I heard her muttering something as I walked away. As for the JJ founder- he is a pos. I am fine with food hunting but find trophy hunting disturbing and not very sporting. But taking your clothes off and dry humping a dead animal tells me he is one sick fuck
Would You Be Ok With Your Child Choosing To Be a Believer?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Jan 30, 2018:
My adult daughter IS a believer and lives with me. So do 2 of her 3 children. My older son says he believes but I do not think so. My youngest son is openly atheist. I think my daughter barely believes and only clings to it because she had a still born daughter that she believes is in heaven and all her friends are believers. Her oldest son is 18 and is not a believer. I had said to her once that I thought her middle child would come out as one when he was older and her response was that it would be her youngest because and I quote " ,,, is like you, she likes science, experimenting and researching stuff" My daughter is sooooo close to being one herself LOL
What does it mean to you to forgive someone?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Jan 30, 2018:
The short answer is "it depends" On what kind of relationship they have with me, what they did, how many times have they done it etc. Sometimes I forgive but cut off contact because either they are not important enough to me to bother giving them another chance or because they've hurt too much to give another chance. With others, the pain they caused fades away and I no longer think about it.

Is it a good idea to date someone at work?
Lucy_Fehr comments on Jan 30, 2018:
Been there, done that and somebody pays a price. The fact that our relationship started as a secret was exciting for a very short time. It created a dynamic that we never overcame in the 12 years we were together. I worked harder than I did before we were together and got no cudos, a raise or any other consideration for fear that when people found out, there would be accusations. I will not date anyone even remotely connected to my job which is in large part why I am still single years later because I do not have a schedule that is conducive to socializing
