I don't see it as any more intolerant than before. One thing that annoys me is when someone posts a controversial topic then makes no further comment. why do they do it ? I would counter that with the fact that the wealthier a country becomes the lower is the birthrate. For example even the birthplace of Roman Catholicism .Italy, has a birthrate of around 1.6/1, much less than the replacement rate of 2.1/1. We were spreading the ashes of my partners late father in a little ceremony at a beach in S.W. Scotland where he was evacuated to during WW2. We parked our car about 100m from the beach and as we walked to it a cat appeared from a nearby wood mewing loudly and accompanied us. It stayed with us during the short ceremony and back to the car park afterwards then just walked away and disappeared from view. I think the "love , honour and obey" thing has been mostly discontinued. Certainly in humanist weddings I have attended . It is more of a partnership these days. I don't know about the US but in the UK many people are living together long term without getting married and it is often family or parental pressure that forces them to get married.
