Remember way back in 2009 when Obama wanted ARRA to be twice as big but the Republicans wouldn't agree to it because it would cause too much debt? Unfortunately he compromised. Those extra infrastructure projects would have fixed many of the current problems, helped the economy even more (which is why they really didn't want it) and I doubt the debt would be as big as it is now.

Sorry, I don't agree that all people who work for the government are "on the gravy train". Often people who went into public sector jobs, did so at much lower rates than those who went into private. Because they often formed unions to make sure they at least had reasonable benefits, they are now still in those unions whereas the public sector is eliminating those benefits. Have some taken advantage? Sure, but IMO not the majority.
