I learned to take the proper precautions and am not afraid to meet anyone IRL. I have a system of "safe" calls set up where I let someone know where I am and who I am with. I always meet somewhere public first. I give my contact identifying information like make and model of vehicle the person is driving before I get into it with them. I give them status updates every 15 minutes. If I am late or fail to give an update, they will call my cell. IF I don't give them the "all clear" safe word when that happens, they call the local police and inform them that I have been kidnapped by [insert name], in a [insert vehicle] plate number [insert plate]. I am confident that the police will arrive before I am dead.

Nope. I think men and women both want the same things about equally. I think the inequality comes from men, who have had the privilege of being more sexually open in public spaces feel more free to express those desires. This leads people to incorrectly assume that men want sex more often than women, but that is so far from the truth it isn't funny. I cry every time I hear the Disturbed cover of sound of silence. His voice is very powerful and when he turns it up a notch at the lyrics "People talking without speaking. OK, so the traditional thinking is what you have stated: That if you have a primary partner they should be the ONLY partner. In polyamory the thinking is that no one person can never be 100% of what another single person needs to be fully satisfied. A poly-amorous person will find a primary who may meet 80% of their needs, but rather than ignore the other 20% they find secondary or tertiary partners to satisfy those needs since the primary partner is either unwilling or incapable of fulfilling them. A good example of this is a primary couple Susan and Steve. Steve loves camping but Susan does not. She thinks a three star hotel is roughing it. Steve also loves to attend music festivals and travels four or five weekends per year to attend them. Susan has different musical tastes but her and Steve often go to jazz clubs and have a wonderful time dancing. Susan just doesn't like the hard rock music that Steve wants to listen to at these outdoor festivals. Susan on the other hand is really into Costuming and loves to go to DragonCon and other conventions creating costumes and clothing for herself and friends. Steve does not like the crowds and is happy staying home while Susan attends these conventions three or four times a year. Occasionally the festivals and conventions are the same weekend but since that cannot be counted upon, we assume that 9 weekends of the 52 per year Steve and Susan spend away from each other. They spend about 80% of the weekends and all of the weekdays together as a couple. Steve also loves horror movies but Susan dislikes the blood and gore so will not attend those types of movies with Steve. In a normal relationship Steve is allowed to have MALE friends with which he can attend music festivals or horror movies, but for some reason the idea of a female companion who likes these activities which only make up a very small fraction of Steve's life is considered a threat to the marriage and is taboo. Similarly Susan can have female costumer friends but is not allowed to make male cosplay friends for the same reason. In a Poly relationship, the primary partners are secure in their relationship and are not threatened by people that their partner might be attracted to. Steve can go to music festivals with Karen and Susan knows that since this secondary relationship, which may or may not include sex, is only taking 5 weekends of Steve's time. What Steve does during these weekends doesn't impact Susan in any way unless Steve brings home an STD. Safety and open communication are highly important in these types of relationships.

I don't think it is evolution. I think it just is one of the many conditions of life. Society, which tries to put rules on the lives of those within it tries to "understand" the things which go against that societies commonly held beliefs. In my world view, there is no "reason" why we are the way we are. We just are. I accept that some people want to breed while I do not. I can look for answers and determine that breeding is an evolutionary thing that promotes the survival of the species but there is no "population control" reason for my not wanting to make babies. We seem to accept that some folks do not want to have babies and some do. Society deems both of those states as being acceptable. Non-cis or non-hetero is not deemed by society as being acceptable so it requires a "reason" to try and understand what it shouldn't even question in the first place.
