It is absolutely contextual. Growing with violence literally changes the structures and function of childrens brains. The good news is that changing your circumstances and the way you think can repair some of that damage. Buddhist philosophy, exercise and meditation have been helpful for me,personally. I find that when I get "down" and feel helpless and hopeless DOING something positive pulls me back up. Its so hard to motivate some days but if I force myself to push through it I get back to a good place. Have an internet hug.
