Let me guess... he'll probably say something like, "We don't know exactly what happened, there are conflicting reports, we don't know for sure... but I met Mr. Kim, he is a very strong individual, very impressive individual, very trustworthy, he is doing everything we agreed to, I'm not going to upset our very good and strong relationship over a lot of unconfirmed questions...." Basically the same thing he did when Kashoggi was murdered by Saudi intelligence, in other words. Deny that awful dictators are doing awful things.

I was introduced to a friend of friends at their Xmas party (who they invited thinking she would be perfect for a different friend, ironically). We both stood there with our drinks for a long awkward pause as the friends walked away. To break the pause, I asked, "So... You into leather?" Turned out her sense of humor was just as twisted as mine, she laughed her ass off. We monopolized one another's conversations. Two hours later I was sitting in the big leather chair with her in my lap kissing me. We dated for 7 months, so...
It pains me to block ladies. Women need to support each other.
Paul4747 comments on Jun 8, 2019:
It frankly pains me a little to block anyone, male or female, because I feel atheists and agnostics need to support one another; but I eventually realized with deep chagrin that jerkass conservative trolls are not confined to the religious Right. Nor are all conservatives jerkass trolls, so please don't mistake me for calling out all conservatives; I have encountered a few liberals who meet the definition as well. Sadly, the one thing that presumably brought us all to this site is not enough to unite us all against a common enemy sometimes.
The Brits and their oh so “snobby” tactic. Gotta love them.

Trouble is, he'll just deride it as "fake news" anyway. He's already claimed in advance that any protests are just fake, and the "real" news is that crowds of people love him. I really can't decide if he believes his own lies or not. Is he delusional or just a sociopath?

Paul4747 comments on Jun 4, 2019:
On a serious note: you can actually go into your profile controls and turn off your ability to hover, as well as the notifications that tell you who hovered over you. But where's the fun in that?? (Holy crap, I hit level 7.8 responding to this post! Excellent.....)

Paul4747 comments on Jun 4, 2019:
My (ex) wife woke me up right after the first plane hit on 9/11. I thought she was tooling me. I was only about 1/4 awake on my day off. I pulled some sweatpants on and went to the living room, then we both saw the second plane hit. We watched the news the rest of the day and into the night, completely numb, mechanically eating lunch and then eventually had some dinner. To this day I also remember she got the blender out about 5:00 and made strawberry daiquiris from a mix. We had 3 each and got mildly drunk. I have no idea what got her making daiquiris, and she doesn't even remember doing it.

Paul4747 comments on Jun 4, 2019:
As Woody Allen observed, in *The UFO Menace*: The most frequently asked question about the UFOs is: If saucers come from outer space, why have their pilots not attempted to make contact with us, instead of hovering mysteriously over deserted areas? My own theory is that for creatures from another solar system "hovering" may be a socially acceptable mode of relating. It may, indeed, be pleasurable. I myself once hovered over an eighteen-year-old actress for six months and had the best time of my life.

Feminist Wife Wants to be Dominated in Bed
Paul4747 comments on Jun 4, 2019:
Well... it so happens I know this guy (who is totally not me, right? we're totally not talking about me) who just started a relationship with someone who is actually kind of shy and passive everywhere except in the bedroom... and it turns out that there, she has always had fantasies about being dominant. And this works out, because this guy (who, I reiterate, is totally NOT me) is in a career where people play dominance type games all day long psychologically, and it's a huge relief to "totally not me" to be able to just give that up and let someone else be in charge for once. And it is also helpful that she's super sensual and sexy. (So he says.) So it's not surprising that a woman like that would enjoy letting someone else take control sometimes, and find it arousing. It has nothing to do with gender.

This was actually tragic in how hilarious it was. Especially Dobson's attempt to rewrite history: "It was this unyielding commitment to religious liberty that led to American Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1783." Er... no... the Founding Fathers were deists. He's thinking of the Pilgrims, who did discriminate based on their fundamental religion. It was disputes over taxation in the wake of the French & Indian Wars and the Seven Years' War that led to the Revolution. But, considering that he thinks the Universe is only 6000 years old, this is a minor error by comparison.

Greta Christina: Do believers in a tri-omni God act like they believe in one?
Paul4747 comments on May 20, 2019:
They fundamentally (no pun intended) *have to* surrender one of the three attributes, because otherwise, there's no accounting for murders, accidental deaths, disease, parasites, predators, and so on, unless God Himself wants people to die in horrible ways. Now, I, as a father, don't protect my child from absolutely every hazard, because A) I can't, not being omnipotent and omniscient, and B), I know she has to grow up in a world where she has to take care of herself and I won't be around forever. BUT, if I were an eternal, omniscient and omnipotent Father, like God is supposed to be, then I would be able to protect her from all manner of harm; even hangnails! So the only reason not to would be that I'm not omnibenevolent; I *want* her to suffer and learn lessons, instead of (as the case is in real life) knowing that suffering and learning lessons is part of growing up. This type of God is like a lottery winner who doesn't tell the family they're now filthy rich, but just disappears for 8 hours a day and pretends to work while everyone else goes and works and lives a normal life; he thinks they're building character. I imagine the family might build some resentment once they found out they could have moved to a better house years ago.

It's even bigger than that. It's about rolling the clock back on what they see as the "big liberal takeover" of America that began in the 1930s with FDR and Social Security. It's about rolling back all the affirmative-action programs that are just "keeping white people down" by opening up opportunities for communities that haven't actually had a chance to go to universities or get promoted, because the same 200 families have controlled basically everything for 250 years, and like it that way. And they sell it to middle-class whites because, instead of blaming the 200 families, they manage to sell it as being the fault of immigrants. It's about returning to what they believe is the "original" America (one which never existed), an America of rugged individuals who never needed anything from anybody and went to church on Sunday, the days when we all came from right here in America and everyone got along with each other (except for the slaves, who didn't count, and the Irish, but they're just like us, really, ditto the Germans and the Poles and the Czechs and the French and of course we had to wipe out the Native Americans first...) Paul4747 comments on May 16, 2019:
The real problem is that the war is between the men and women of Alabama and *other women* who don't share the same beliefs. What gives them the right to dictate to anyone what constitutes a "baby" or "when life begins"? Everyone in Alabama is free to believe as they wish, just as everyone is anywhere. It's imposing their beliefs on others through the tyranny of law that makes that belief a problem. (And no, that's not the same thing as being "forced" to serve same-sex couples. Those couples exist regardless of one's belief. Being forced to *participate in* a same-sex couple against your will, that one would be a violation of religious beliefs.) Conservatives try to compare the anti-abortion activists with abolitionists in the 1800s. The difference is that anti-slavery activists fought for the freedom of people to do with their lives as they wanted, without answering to any master; whereas anti-abortion activists want to restrict women's rights to do as they will, until they have no right whatsoever except to give birth once they're pregnant.
Why are agnostics and atheists so hostile to my non-theistic belief of theological noncognitivism?
Paul4747 comments on May 16, 2019:
Many have argued very convincingly that words like "love" and "beauty" are meaningless terms for nonexistent things, and yet people go to great lengths seeking them and even sacrifice their lives for people they love, even though some insist that it's merely a genetic program forcing them to do so. Whether the words are meaningless or not, the fact is they bring about great emotional energy and reaction in those who believe in them and those who don't alike. They are agreed-upon terms that allow all sides to participate in the debate and address the question of existence or nonexistence. Your "philosophy" seems to call for disengagement from the question altogether.

No charges in police shooting of off-duty Colorado deputy
Paul4747 comments on May 7, 2019:
Well... "The Weld County grand jury's report released Monday does not say why Adams County Sheriff's Deputy Jesse Jenson was chasing another car in rural northern Colorado on Jan. 16, traveling more than 90 miles per hour. According to the report, LaSalle Police Officer Caroline Persichetti shot Jenson when he exited his car at an intersection and came toward her, ignoring commands to stop. The report says Persichetti told grand jurors that she could not see Jenson's left hand and believed he had a gun. Investigators later found he was unarmed." So it sounds like a high-speed chase, followed by a male driver getting out and ignoring the female officer's orders to stop, while keeping one hand out of view. Whether he was or was not unarmed, she couldn't know that at the time. She was justified in acting before he got close enough to take her by surprise with whatever he may have had. Not negligence, not manslaughter. Especially since he was an officer himself, he knew what to do and failed to do it. I would guess his mental state entered into it somehow. Suicide by another officer's gun?
Officer, I’ve been a bad girl!😉

Paul4747 comments on May 6, 2019:
Trump is currently trying to set the Executive up as superior to the other two branches; refusing to cooperate with Congressional subpoenas, accusing the courts of political motives when they disagree with him. He clearly thinks that the President is a CEO and everyone else is supposed to do what he says. Trump obviously has no understanding of government (and to give him what little credit I must, he never claimed to, that I recall); worse, he has no respect for it.

Should we respect other people's beliefs?
Paul4747 comments on May 6, 2019:
I don't respect belief in a flat earth. I don't respect a belief in "racial" anything. I don't respect a belief that the planet and universe came into existence 6,000 years ago by the word of an invisible alpha male. I don't respect a belief in chopping the heads off people who disagree with one's beliefs. I can respect a belief in treating others decently, no matter from where it was derived. So, do you have a category for "It depends"?
Who here has dealt with depression from a firsthand experience?
Paul4747 comments on May 6, 2019:
Probably everyone. But as far as "dealing with it" meaning "needing professional advice or care", yes, I see a therapist for my depression issues (along with anxiety and anger) all connected to work. It's due to PTSD from my years in Corrections, and probably not helped much by my divorce (there's not a clear cause & effect relationship there; the stress contributed to my troubles at home, which contributed to the stress). Short answer- "Yo" (raises hand)

If I had given up my interest in sex or intimacy, I'd be "happily married" right now. I figure somewhere, there must be someone who wants the cuddling to go somewhere once or twice a month, enough to initiate it sometimes. Meanwhile, your ex might get lucky and find what she's looking for too. Everybody has the right to need what they need.

"If you’re in a situation where your partner won’t have sex with you even though you want it, you should talk about it. If communication like that isn’t an option, find a professional to help you." Extremely good advice, not from the Xian mom, but from the author of the article. And it's what I did about the intimacy troubles in my marriage. (Not sex alone, but all levels of intimacy, from any kind of touching to communication and expressing feelings.) I tried the talking, I wanted to go to counseling, and when she wouldn't, I went by myself. And here I am divorced and much happier. Even though we haven't discussed it, I think she's happier too. And I feel we're better friends now than we were as partners.
George Papadopoulos Explains How He Was Illegally Spied on by the Obama Administration - YouTube
Paul4747 comments on May 5, 2019:
No... he was surveilled by the FBI because he was trying to set up contacts between the Trump campaign and the Russians, including trying to set up a meeting between candidate Trump and Putin, then lied to the FBI. He plead guilty to making false statements. So, federal law enforcement is "illegal spying" now? I'm sure that's news to Trump, who wants to go after the people who started the investigation in the first place.

Instinctively I object to this, but I can't put it into words. The closest I can come is; I think this was my ex-wife's attitude, which she stated outright. She said she wasn't interested in sex anymore, but when I wanted it, we could. Gosh, how romantic. And just like @Amisja says, to me it felt like rape; like I had a completely unwilling partner. And I became unwilling myself.

Before my divorce and moving to my apartment, it was a day of great inconvenience for me, since the local parade forms up right in the neighborhood where I lived and they would line up on my street, blocking my driveway. I would have to yell at them to let me out so I could go to work. Or else I would have to wake up early and park on the street so I didn't get blocked in.

Facebook, like any social media provider (indeed, like Agnostic.com), is a private corporation. They have the right to restrict users who violate the terms of service. They also have the right to change the terms of service. All users agree to these terms when they sign up. Is fake news (I mean actually fake news, not what Trump calls "fake news", which is what he calls the real news) "important content", Powder? Are people who post malicious content "profound"? Because that's who we're talking about here. And for the record, censorship is a government activity. Facebook et. al. are not the government. They have the right to choose who to allow on their websites. If a customer in your business is disruptive, you have the right to ban them. They have the right to ban disruptive content.
