Since 1984, President and Mrs. Carter have been champions and strong voices for affordable, decent housing for all, donating their time and leadership each year to build and improve homes through Habitat’s Carter Work Project. Over the course of more than 30 years, they have worked alongside nearly 100,000 volunteers in 14 countries to build, renovate and repair more than 4,000 homes and have inspired millions mores through their dedication to Habitat’s mission. Go to Habitat.org to give to a very decent charity. Did you know that the "Re-stores" that are popping up are part of Habitat for humanity group? Check them out as well; tons of the 3R’s; “Renewed, Restored, and Recycled" goods!

I'm impressed. A country girl/woman who has her s..t together despite being in the heart of W.Va. I can't imagine you really enjoy being referred to as a " pretty little woman"....but I imagine you were swept off your feet with a similar line in your past, and miss him a bit...which is totally cool....sets the standard bar higher and higher....a good thing. Being a widower is also tough for a youngin' but it happened to me...when I was 31 and she was 29....so I can identify. Yes; letting go and settling is a continuous life process. Here's hoping you let go of the junk, settle for the compromises that feel good/benefit you, and find joy and happiness.

I'm a widow and I'm not planning to take off my wedding ring.
Robecology comments on Jan 3, 2019:
Being a widow/widower is tough. Been there, done that (she died in '77). You have courage just being here. If any guy you talk to is offended by the ring just cut him off/stop seeing him; it's a sign he doesn't "get it". Take your time; "indifference" to a loved one lost through death takes many years. If you have children it's extra tough. Be patient; with other "guys" and with yourself.

Try to look at what they were doing and saying as well-intentioned. They want to see you in a relationship because it works for them. Thank them for their good intentions...and carry on the way you've been. You're on a "dating site" here, so it's not like you're not trying. Consider that they're not "talking down" to you, but perhaps secretly envious of your freedom, as well. Be more positive. Ken Keyes Jr. has several books on this topic. My favorite is "Handbook to Higher Consciousness" but he has many. Search his name. Here's a website that summarizes his strategies. http://www.mindpowernews.com/HigherConsciousness.html
Well, this site is a joke- [acslaw.
Robecology comments on Jan 2, 2019:
@Acslaw.org - Can we assume that there's every range of American that "care about the constitution" ? Why come off with such a biased comment? Do you even comprehend the definition of “progressive"? You might want to look it up. I joined Conservative Atheists - and I consider myself a progressive conservative. I want progress through conservative action. I want a thorough examination of the situation - a Conservative hallmark - before we change anything....yet I think we need to move out of the "dark" age of racism and fear of socialism, fear of immigrants - in to the light - in to a cautious, conservative approach to universal health care, changes in the Constitution, and changes in our tax structure. And that's not a joke.
This is the end line of a poem written by a young woman named Taylor Myer.
Robecology comments on Jan 2, 2019:
Ending a relationship is tough. My first one was ending - fading - love was becoming hate - when she got sick. Then I had to endure years of helping her recover, even move out. But it taught me lessons. There's love, hate, and indifference. Hate only comes when misunderstandings lead to disrespect, which in turn leads to deceit and rejection. The trick, as Ken Keyes Jr. says in his many books, is to "hold on tightly - but let go lightly". Go to "indifference" as well as you can. Not as fast....it's a slow process....but do it well. I recommend you search Ken Keyes books on relationships...and read them while waiting for your (or your ex's) hate turns to indifference. Here's a rather short synopsis of his philosophy. http://www.mindpowernews.com/HigherConsciousness.html

Christians will do anything to have open borders. The term "sanctuary" comes from the religious description of the inner part of a church...the Sanctum. It's time we stop the exaggerated comments against those who want to improve the situation. Illegal entries in to America have been on a 20 year steady decline. Illegals are far less crime-prone than American born. Lets be good conservatives and go on facts, not Trump and Fox propaganda B.S. https://apps.npr.org/dailygraphics/graphics/border-arrests-20180621/child.html?initialWidth=763=responsive-embed-border-arrests-20180621=3%20Charts%20That%20Show%20What%27s%20Actually%20Happening%20Along%20The%20Southern%20Border%20%3A%20NPR=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.npr.org%2F2018%2F06%2F22%2F622246815%2Funauthorized-immigration-in-three-graphs

Robecology comments on Jan 1, 2019:
Sorry for those fellow conservatives who suffer the "name calling, banning, & accusations!' We should all commit to being more positive. Let's debate with the basic rules...no name calling. No hostility. May I suggest that we offer links - or facts, or data - to back up our strategies. Let's be conservative because we want to have progress that's been throughly studied and reviewed; let's not go to conservatism that's "reactionary" to progress. The world is growing, and changing. We conservatives want to make sure those changes benefit all of us - from the poorest to the wealthiest.
What is it about a woman's boobs that men (and some women) find so attractive?
Robecology comments on Jan 1, 2019:
Let's be honest. An average shape is attractive, a full-bodied woman is more attractive. Fuller-breasted women seem to be more out-going. More joyous. More zealous. Not to say the average sized woman isn't - would love to be proven wrong....and have been many times...just putting it out there. I think an average sized woman who gets a breast enhancement operation sees more men, is attracted by more men, and is pampered by more men. Call it "biology" or in our genes...I don't think it's a learned behavior (although I was nursed by a full-breasted mom....hmmmm) I see future generations of women with larger breasts...I honestly think we're not only gaining height over the generations, the women are gaining in breast size. POV from a 45 year retired science teacher.
The world is not always a nice place and life is sometimes not fair. Deal with it. EOM
Robecology comments on Jun 19, 2018:
...dealing with it is all we can do - but if you complain about it and fight against it, you change it. Saying to just "deal with it" is a defeatist-loser-pre-suicide attitude. Saying "I can do something to fix it" is what winners, leaders, and champions do.

I suggest you read "Population Density and Social Pathology" a short article written many years ago ('62) by John B. Calhoun. He basically proved, using rats in moveable-wall cages, that being crowded is the one factor that explains a lot of social ills. He gave his rats food and water, kept them clean/sanitary; he just moved the walls closer together on certain populations. He noticed child abuse, abandonment, abnormal and reduced sexual behavior, gangs, hoarding (greed) ....all the social ills we suffer today. China had it right with their one-child policy; they just went about it wrong. If we don't get our population growth (150+ more births than deaths, per minute world-wide) we're doomed. http://www.poodwaddle.com/worldclock/
What If You Were Never Born.....
Robecology comments on Jun 18, 2018:
Richard Dawkins says it best; Basically; we're extraordinarily lucky to have been born. If anything is an unexplained miracle, its the fact that we're alive for short time, as a human being....considering the 200 million sperm our father had, and the hundreds of eggs our mom had - the odds of us being alive are incredulous. Be thankful...to no-one in particular. If you're #Religulous then being in this body is "a short visit to heaven"....so thank god...whoever she is.... http://commonsenseatheism.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/dawkins-quote.png

Robecology comments on Jun 18, 2018:
To "get behind" this fellow takes much more than you're asking; and I reply to this as a classic, non-racist, non-religious but politically conservative person... 1. For him to be so pseudo-religious is a smack in the face to all atheist-agnostics. 2. There's a fine line between love, hate and indifference. We who are in relationships love our partner. We getting out of relationships often "hate" our ex-partner...but we strive for the day when they'll become "indifferent" to us...when we just don't care. You don't "hate" someone unless they've offended you, lied to you, or turned their back on you; in fact those who you hate often started out being loved; or they professed their love for you - we rarely "hate" the stranger who's done nothing to us. So right now, it's hard to "get behind" someone who's been such a consistent liar to us. And please don't try to defend his lies; they've been easily documented; check this if you like. http://www.politifact.com/personalities/donald-trump/

Musty smelling books. Any advice?
Robecology comments on Jun 6, 2018:
It will take time and patience; a face mask (to avoid breathing all the mold spores) and a bunch or old but clean cloths (old towels best). A spray bottle with just a few tablespoons of bleach, mostly water will work well to not only renew the books, but stop the molds and fungi (my girlfriends called me that...a fun -gi....get it? ) but the labor depends on your love of the books, the time you have, and the value of the books.
Recently a friend told me a joke about a couple arriving in Heaven and receiving a tour.

I'm agnostic; and Richard Dawkins said it well as a response to this... “We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here.We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred?”

Dangerous, indeed. The Hannity issue. So lets assume he did use Cohen as his lawyer what is the issue here?
Robecology comments on Apr 17, 2018:
Think about why you don't like Hannity...it probably has something to do with his obvious dishonesty, racism, and sexism. This connection to Cohen proves he's been unethical and unprofessional as a TV news commentator. He's losing advertisers even now because this has crossed the line. I strongly support a Conservative government; but people like Hannity, Paul Ryan, and Trump are giving conservative strategies a very bad name.
Is it hypocritical for me, as an atheist, to celebrate religious holidays?
Robecology comments on Apr 17, 2018:
There's a lot of goodness, warmth and comfort that comes from sharing Religious holidays with family. You don't have to proclaim your stance as Agnostic/atheist to be one; and the traditions of Religion are very friendly, warm, and peace-loving....so by all means....enjoy them, share them. If religious family members challenge you with a debate, keep it friendly - and they might grow out of their religious "dependence" thanks to you! If they challenge you in a hostile way, give your apologies and smile; they aren't at your level - yet.

Robecology comments on Apr 16, 2018:
Religion was important to developing cultures. It gave people a hope, a reason to carry on, a reason to live. It was a social tool; you met your future spouse in church; you socialized and made friends at church/synagogue/mosque gatherings. But then Religion got carried away. Territorial. Elitist. The crusades was the beginning of forced spread of religion; missions to America to convert the "natives" was another well-meaning but mis-guided attempt to spread "the word" while killing those who didn't want to follow it. Now, in the age of science and reason - that seems to have faded away. Religion - or let me call those who follow religion - the Religulous - have lost the value of their religion. They use it to proclaim the need for unplanned families - and thus fight planned families and the consequences of unplanned pregnancies. The remnants of primitive religions; the Muslims and Buddhists mean well; but the Muslims, in particular, have adopted that angry "my way or the highway" approach that Christianity used to have....so ISIS and AlQaida evolved. I miss the socializing that went on; but I don't miss the false hopes and "prayers" that are a lame excuse for sort of caring. If you care about a person or group's well being you act; you donate, you go help them; you don't "pray" for them. "thoughts and Prayers" is now a veiled insult, to me. But I've found social groups; Irish American clubs, garden clubs, etc. can, and do, allow socializing without the pretext of worshipping imagined gods.
