It's the incredible distance. AND it would be a lot smarter to talk with us first before visiting. There's only a few planetary systems within 100 light years of us that might harbor life at a certain stage...***not necessarily one with a dexterious (able to manipulate tools) skill that also evolved creating and using radio. *** Some might be just starting out with single celled life...some may be totally hydrous (water/oceanic) and thus have intelligent aliens who just never developed technology. To answer your original question; you have to find "summer jobs". I worked as everything from a lifeguard to a Glass-bottom-boat tour guide assistant. Hang in there. Dress nicely (conservatively, jacket and tie), and ask to meet with the principal....of all the schools you sub for. I suffered "permanent substitute" status the first year I moved to Florida. It was embarrassing and frustrating - but I retired in 2012 with full benefits. That full time job will come; but you have to put yourself out there. Easiest way? Shake hands with the principals. Ask to "have a meeting with them"...All of them within a half-hour drive of where you live. Simple...you just want to share your resume, your interests...and you want to know their strategy as well (if the secretary asks for "a reason you want to meet with the principal". It could be a 5 minute meeting...but meet with him/her, and hand them your resume. (Get many copies printed). You'll get that full time job soon. Recommendation; get rid of the facial hair for now. Trim up the hair. Dress nicely. You can always grow the facial hair back. School admins tend to be conservative.

Best/fastest guide? look at the 2-3-4 letters at the end. dot com sites depend on advertisers to pay for their sites. So do dot orgs....but to get "organization" web rights, you often have to be non profit. Then there's the dot edu's...for educational (non-profit). Now you're going to a dependable source. Dot govs are usually dependable....but you need to know the bias of the government source. Dot info is special, and rare. I've never known of any for-profit dot info's. And then there's your search tools, or search "engines". (I've never been comfortable with the "engine" descriptor.). Google is by far the most well known...but there are others. By all means -- research what you read - especially if you get that nagging feeling that it's not quite right. Then copy and paste the website. If you have images - especially graphs and charts - that helps...but don't forget to give the source for the graph or chart. I was lucky. The nurse friend had to get hers...she called me her "significant other"...and being 75 I qualified...so I got my first Pfizer shot in January, the second a couple weeks ago. Arm ache for a week. from the first shot....ache is now gone. I still wear a mask...

The story is/was NOT that the wind generators (which only provide 20% for Texas energy anyway) failed. The point is not that wind generators work in Antarctica and other parts of the world...the point is that the Republicans in Texas voted to avoid Federal regulation of their equipment...which meant they were obligated, under fed guidelines - to winterize their equipment...and they cheaped out and didn't do that.
