@MoonTigerII I appreciate your POV on dreams...it's charming, and interesting...poetic and imaginative... But to me; dreams are dreams...and being awake is not dreaming. I can discern being awake vs being asleep. I don't buy in to the possibility of "being awake, yet in a dream"....sorry.

Robecology replies on Jul 30, 2019:
@StarvingArtist Good questions; Basically the reason Fossil fuels are totally un-renewable is that we change them when we use them...we "oxidize" or "burn' them, changing them in to completely different - and often toxic - substances. Not so with battery ingredients. We "drain" them - but we recharge them....sometimes for thousands of cycles. First let me dispel a myth; a Lithium battery is not mostly lithium. It's made of carbon, silicon (sand is silicon dioxide) and other rather common ingredients. ...and they're not "burned" or altered significantly in their production of electricity. That's why they are rechargeable. You're probably using one now in your laptop of phone to read this. The battery literally recycles every time you plug it in for a charge. Now the charging....like our bodies...ages - becomes less "efficient. It happened to my 2013 Tesla. When it was new, it charged to 270. When I traded it in, it had lost 10%of its' charging capacity For the phones it's a 2-4 year life. For Tesla cars it's guaranteed for 8 years...after which you might have to replace it. But what happens to the old ones? Yep; they are broken down, separated in to component compounds, and recycled. That's why you should never throw even regular batteries "away"...they will only make landfills places to mine in future generations...because the batteries will still retain their basic elements. So basically; all batteries are never really broken down to to unusable forms. All batteries...even the non-chargeable ones...can be recycled. Not necessarily in their original form....but their ingredients can be recycled....nearly all of it. Here's the tech version of what I just said; https://waste-management-world.com/a/in-depth-lithium-battery-recycling-the-clean-energy-clean-up

LOL...solution? Buy an EV....plug in charge at home or at a Supercharger....the fee for the "juice" is paid for on line...in the privacy of your car...and it's a third the price of gas....
Robecology replies on Jul 23, 2019:
@MojoDave, @synergy Good question! And not easy to calculate; but let me explain it this way. Tesla has bumped up prices at US states, with some rising as much as 100 percent. As of this week (beginning March 11), prices have risen (this is from an article, below). California prices grew by 30 percent from $0.20 to $0.26 and New York costs jumped by $0.05 to $0.24. Oregon was hit with one of the steepest risesΒβ€”$0.12 to $0.24. Illinois drivers will now pay $0.24 instead of $0.15. All prices are per kWh. So let's take an average of $0.20 cents per KWH to charge; 90% charge at home (cheaper) 10% charge mainly/mostly at Superchargers (higher). My Tesla's a 100 (KWH) S. That means it will hold 100 KwH's of charge of you charge it to full capacity. If you travel at 65-70 MPH....you get a range of 335 miles. So that 3.35 miles costs an average of $0.20cents. Thus if you multiply both these #'s by 10, you go 33.5 miles, and you'll pay an average of $2.00 dollars What gas powered car gets 33 miles on $2 bucks worth of gas? Very few; if any. So....long story short; EV's are much cheaper to run (relevant to the cost of fossil fuel energy). The source of electricity is a factor in pollution; mine is "nuclear" powered. 23% of America is still "coal" powered....but remember - power plants have a lot more efficient pollution controls than those on a typical car....so even if your car is "coal" powered, it's almost twice as efficient as a gasoline powered car. So in general, EV's are far less polluting than Gasoline counterparts. Here's a great video I often share that explains some of the reasons why in 10 years, fossil fuel cars will be almost gone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7Jg1IJ68_g and here's he source of EV cost to power https://www.newsweek.com/tesla-hikes-supercharger-prices-how-much-each-state-will-cost-840143

I'm not sure what happened with my 3 brothers and one sister - but I just don't see eye to eye with any of the brothers....and sis and I agree on lots...but she's "struggling" and I'm "comfortable" and that leaves me with guilt...
Robecology replies on Jul 17, 2019:
@UUNJ Thanks for the reply! Sis is struggling with a severely autistic adult son at home...so I help her in little ways...insurance, etc. I'm literally out of touch with two brothers...a third passed away a few years ago. I'm the guy you helped with a list of couples counselors you sent me.
If only....

Way too many people on this site have a hatred of orange people. It's disgusting.
Robecology replies on Jul 17, 2019:
Remember; there's love, hate and indifference. Hated people have earned their hate by being repeatedly deceitful and dishonest.... so I wouldn't say it's "too many"... and if you go on FB and search some pro-Trump sites.... ...you'll see "too many" who are blind to his dishonesty. We agnostics - = being evidence-based - are definitely much more hateful of Trump than most.
Some rainy day photos. I am endlessly fascinated with the little world that exists under our feet.

Is that a very rare "pig nosed turtle"... I found this about them; http://www.takepart.com/article/2014/10/15/china-pushing-rare-pig-nosed-toward-extinction
Robecology replies on Jul 17, 2019:
@glennlab Remember; the term "exotic" implies not native, or natural to Florida. These guys/gals have been around a while; They're technically a "native" species. The Florida softshell turtle is not a threatened species. The IUCN 3.1 has categorized them under the β€˜LC’ (Least Concern) species list. http://www.animalspot.net/florida-softshell-turtle.html

Robecology comments on Jul 16, 2019:
From the article; "The empire will limp along, steadily losing influence until the dollar is dropped as the world’s reserve currency, plunging the United States into a crippling depression and instantly forcing a massive contraction of its military machine." Maybe that's a good thing? We've...

@dan325 C'mon Dan. You must like Chinese food. You must have met Chinese people. They're really polite and nice. Look around your home. Everything in it is "made in China" They own us. They're not boastful or bragging about it...it's just an obvious fact. About 40 years ago they instituted the 1 child per family rule. (see graph) It created havoc in the Western world. But it raised their standard of living, and got their growth under control 30 years ago...few had a car, most had bicycles. Now far more have cars, air conditioning, and a solar hot water heater on their roof; required and paid for by the 'government" (taxes). 10 years ago they were opening a Coal plant every week. Now they're closing them down and have the worlds largest solar and wind farms. China may be strict communist....but they're making smart decisions. I agree with your hunch 100% "China's future dominance is pretty much inevitable." https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/624/cpsprodpb/12063/production/_104772837_china_birthrate-nc.png

It's a supply and demand issue. There's always an abundance of people lining up for jobs at Amazon. Their pay and benefits are not bad...they're fair and competitive. Sure you have to hustle...but you're told that from the start. Unions have gotten "top-heavy" with fat executives living...

@dan325 Read the article by Elon Musk. He makes tremendous sense. " β€œThey drove GM & Chrysler to bankruptcy & lost 200,000+ jobs for people they were supposed to protect, incl abandoning NUMMI plant workers [the previous joint venture between Toyota and GM],” he wrote on Twitter. β€œTesla took over & now it has 10k+ jobs.UAW destroyed once great US auto industry & everyone knows it.” https://qz.com/1285403/elon-musks-daylong-twitter-rant-on-unions-and-us-history/

Robecology replies on Jul 16, 2019:
@ownworstenemy The photographer...or the post-photo editor....knew enough to get the orange hair coloring "illuminated" while keeping the background from getting washed out. That's what typically happens in a photo like that; foreground in shade, background sunny.
