Dousing flames with low-frequency sound waves – Physics World
Robecology comments on Sep 4, 2020:
It seems like a spot -focused solution. Let's see that in action over an area of burning grass/lawn/field for example....I'm afraid it would act to spread the fire, not douse it. This is like "blowing out a candle" - a focused blast of air on a single flame point will put out the fire...but a focused blast of air on a larger, wide-spread fire actually helps that firs spread. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVV4xeWBIxE

Happy Thursday everyone! How do you feel about getting lost?
Robecology comments on Sep 3, 2020:
it depends on where you get lost; and what your time schedule is. If you're at all like most folk and, say, get off the wrong exit ramp....and an "on" ramp isn't so accessible...then you often get spooked. GPS and electronic mapping has eased that problem...but in general...it's not a good feeling. I can't recall ever "loving it".

Waaaaay too much work. It's almost not worth the effort. But I got a few ideas to simplify that prep. #1. I'm impressed that he used the kitchen-Aide grinder to grind down almost all the random ingredients. #2. There's too many good, cheap barbeque sauces on the market to go through making my own. #3. I'm impressed that he used an induction hot plate. I swear by induction cooking surfaces. I've bought three; one for me, one for my son, and one for my condo-rental. #4. Way too complicated with the batter thing...but "celery salt" is a key great ingredient. Any "complete seasoning-salt" will do. #5. Charming, humorous, fast moving presentation...but again...it's so easy to simplify that recipe and make much greater "McNuggets"

No need to buy the Tesla wall chargers unless you commute more than 100 miles a day. Any 220-240 outlet will give you 16 to 18 MPH charge. Any 110-120 volt outlet will give you 1/4th that, or around 3-3.5 MPH. Yes - you can use that dryer or oven outlet. Gauge your commute. Check your electricity costs. You're generally wiser to charge at home (while parked, at night) than to stop at a Supercharger. Check whether they give discounts for elecricity usage for "off hours"... Robecology comments on Aug 14, 2020:
I think you're reading in to it. Living up to your avatar...being "creative". If you read the rather verbose tirade from the OP, it says, basically, that he considers those on Agnostic.com are, in general, suffering a devotion to being "woke" or awakened or hyper-aware - he even coins the name "Wokeism"...implying a religious fanaticism to being "woke". Then he goes on (rambles on, IMO) to suggest he's proven his theories with studies. I don't see it...but if you are #religulous and/or follow Qanaon, and/or are a Trump-ster....you might. I think this is where the "Dark"/aka Conspiracy theories start raising their ugly heads...that this "wokeism" is a responsibility of the billionaire George Soros who intends to dominate the world with "wokeism" and end religious dominance. And on and on, ad nauseum. The actual person who wrote this and started both this website and Slug.com is a mystery. I challenge them to make themselves public. We don't know who (S)he is...or if there's more than one...or if the one who started Slug is still an admin of Agnostic.com ...and they love the mystery and unknown factor of it all...it's what makes their "dark" web dark... So Could Slug.com be a scam? It sure does have a following...but...na.... And since many of us read that it has a similar format to agnostic.com we joined to find out more. But I don't think any of us were "forced" to join. Many of us join to "know" who our opponents are; what groups they like, what's their modus operandi, etc. I don't feel any force nor pressure to join....I signed up...perused the groups....found them not to my liking...and haven't participated in them. We all know the experience of trying to talk to a conservative/anti-progressive....it's pretty much like banging your head against the wall.

Here's my take on the Intellectual Dark Web; they're generally not intellectual, and they define "dark" as profane, Obsessive-compulsive, secretive. I think they are frightened; their racist, myth-based, religious based thinking is being proven to be be wrong more and more every day. Their numbers are dwindling. Their lifestyle is fading in to the past. I found a cartoon that I keep tabbed...that kind of explains the Trump/religious person. Analysis is welcome; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rW9R6jgE7SQ
To all you pro-choice people (like myself), what is the argument against men having the option to ...
Robecology comments on Aug 13, 2020:
I'm a little confused by the double negative; but I'll try to add my 2 cents... Are we in favor - or not in favor - of men having the option to refuse support a woman expecting a child? This is tough. It will depend on the state and nation where the child care issue, the conditions of your relationship with the woman at the time of impregnation...and the condition of the relationship now. It often comes down to personal values...of the couples involved and the judges/courts, if they get involved. In general...decades ago it was more tolerable to hear about a man impregnating a woman then bailing on responsibility...that seems to have become less tolerable. We hear, more often, of the need to be responsible for birthing a child. The world is growing by over a hundred more births, than deaths, per minute....it's generally irresponsible to even talk about not being responsible for a future child. If it's you and you're looking for a strong defense...we'd have to know who "enticed" who. We'd have to know your income and relationship status; were you/are you married? To the same woman? Did you impregnate another while married to someone else? As you see there's lots we don't know....so it's a "loaded" question.
This is what I did for quarantine/unemployment 2020.

Conrad Miami Hotel in Brickell...
Robecology comments on Aug 13, 2020:
I don't get it. I understand that there's no solid foundation for hundreds of feet deep in Miami - except a loose, airy, soft limestone known as Oolitic limestone (make from tiny Oolitic plankton hundreds of millions of years ago.) One good hurricane hit on Miami and most of these tall buildings are going to end up like the leaning Tower of Pisa....if they're lucky. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geology_of_Florida
This just in: NO, this will NOT in fact protect you from the Coronavirus.

I think the person(s?) who split and formed Slug.com are not the same as the present @Admins. I'm not sure why they're hiding their identity....we all know who Zuckerberg is. I guess it's their privilege....but I motion that they go public, show us who (S)he/they are, and hold their heads up high. I'm impressed with this website....not so much with Slug.com.

You can still fly. The rates are much higher...and the restrictions much tighter...but flying isn't ended. Good for you for mentioning carbon footprint..I'm a big Eco-nut and love awareness of it... https://www.nature.org/en-us/get-involved/how-to-help/carbon-footprint-calculator/ According to figures from German nonprofit Atmosfair, flying from London to New York and back generates about 986kg of CO2 per passenger. There are 56 countries where the average person emits less carbon dioxide in a whole year – from Burundi in Africa to Paraguay in South America.Jul 19, 2019 https://www.theguardian.com/environment/ng-interactive/2019/jul/19/carbon-calculator-how-taking-one-flight-emits-as-much-as-many-people-do-in-a-year
Happy Thursday Everyone! When was the last time you were snooping, and found something you wish you ...
Robecology comments on Aug 13, 2020:
I'm the victim of a snoop and I don't know how to fix it. Maybe you guys can advise? I was cleaning up for a visit from the ladyfriend. I had to go get her because she's recovering from surgery. I dumped the bedroom trash in to the main trash - but forgot to take the main trash out. She snooped and found a woman's sanitary pad! The problem is I have not been with any women. None have been in my apartment. I said "it's probably yours" and left it at that.... ...but her snooping made her trust me even less than she does already. Solutions? Suggestions? Sad for her...but maybe it's best left alone?

Hi grouphugs! ☺ what are you up to?
Robecology comments on Aug 13, 2020:
It's real. In this time of our lives...we meet more people, we become different at a faster pace. 100 years ago our ancestors had decades shorter lives, and far fewer distractions. Relationships lasted longer out of necessity to depend on eachother. Not so much the case today. Alvin Toffler wrote a book in the 70's - Future Shock - that said pretty much the same thing. So I can only suggest you (or your friend...or anyone who reads this) adhere to the strategy of Ken Keyes Jr..." hold on tightly - let go lightly". You don't want to "blame" him or talk negatively about him...you both just became rapidly different. He is still the father of your child. Let him do that with as much indifference as you can. There's love, hate and indifference. Your goal is to become "indifferent" as quickly and easily as you can.
Energy drink...
Robecology comments on Aug 12, 2020:
The energy boost is subtle. It's the reason I switched to half-decaf a few years back...too much energy too early in the day caused a "hyper-ness" that left me uncomfortable...and left me with a crashing lethargy by late morning through mid-afternoon. The half decaf leveled that out.
Advertising analysis:kinda sucks.

We have to put a modern spin on what Darwin meant by "strongest". We've known for decades that it's the mentally strong that survive better than the physically strong in the realm of homo sapiens...(with the obvious exceptions of pro athletes)...but as @Theresa_N suggests it might take a cleverness of cooperation to gain on the evolutionary ladder.
