Ignorance is a Choice
Robecology comments on Jun 7, 2019:
I'm not so sure. I think it's a tradition, or pattern of behavior that, right now, too many humans are "locked in" to. Religion isn't really a choice. It's an indoctrination.

@BestWithoutGods As I grew up in the mid 20th century there were more interfaith marriages, and interracial marriages than ever. The "gay" issue was just starting to become known; I've known of men and women "living together" but never assumed they were intimate until later in life. I hadn't known a white and black couple until my mid 20's. (1970's) I So this "age of Information" is still growing, sill blossoming...still just getting started in some nations. So again; I say; the OP is a nice "idealistic' way to look at things - it's just not very real, yet. Evidence; Trump's lies...and the millions who buy in to them. People make their assessments in the first few seconds of seeing another; assessments that go way beyond how well you are dressed and how neat and tidy you might look. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/do-something-different/201304/what-your-clothes-might-be-saying-about-you

@BD66 Don't get me started on subsidies. I could show you charts that would make Musk's/Tesla's subsidies look miniscule....Do you know how much we subsidize fossil fuels? Far, far more.... Tesla - or any E.V. - is a wise machine; far simpler than gas vehicles. Far faster. Far safer. The problem that the FFC (the Fossil Fuel Consortium) sees is that it's serious competition....so they bad mouth it. It's the favorite bad-mouth of short sellers on the stock exchange. Many thousands of car mechanics, car salespeople and maybe even millions of gas and oil refiners, shippers, and sellers will be out of a job soon...that that frightens them....and you, as well, apparently. The sooner our government gets wise (Go Green New Deal) the more we'll subsidize alternative energy and the less we'll reward the FFC. Yes; there will be plenty of new jobs in "green" energy; Google "new jobs in alternative energy". We'll running on bald tires. It's time to fix that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7Jg1IJ68_g

@Heidi68 I hear you...and respect your opinion. I was explaining that those who "hate" have a reason. I have learned to not hate. But I think that those who do say they "hate" have a foundation, a reason for it. To say they don't is naive; again; IMO. Having read Ken Keyes Jr. "Handbook to higher consciousness" he talked a lot about how to end a relationship by turning your "hatred" to "indifference"....so that led me to redefine why I hate someone/something vs why I'm indifferent. As a teacher, it used to be hard not to "hate" hostile, antagonistic students - until you learn about their background...their personal struggles...then you "drop the hate" - and - with empathy - become at least "indifferent" to their hostility - -at best you become "empathetic" to them because you see a way in to their soul - a way to "hook" them back in to a positive educational view. You don't quite "love" them...but at least you let their hostility blow over you. I survived 45 years of teaching because I learned not to hate. I, have also learned to not "hate" past relationships. But I've learned to grow more rapidly toward "indifference" toward them. I don't recall birthdays, etc. I've "lost touch" because staying in touch didn't work. But I was explaining that those who "hate" have a reason. Fortunately I too have learned to let go of hate. But I hope you understand why I think it's naive to say you "hate" for no reason. There's always a reason to hate. Even your comment "Many hate the unknown because of fear/intolerance and/or God. That is no reason". Yes....they have a reason to "hate" the unknown; it brings fear to them". That is, in fact, a good reason. If you become "indifferent" about the unknown - you no longer hate it.

@Marionville I can't concur. Even third world nations that have had the "push' of economic growth ended up in trouble in the 60's and 70's. Ethiopia is a prime example of a third world country that had "growth" pushed at it too much. They grew...and with ridiculous population explosions and no resources, they ended up famous for mass famines and serious eco-degradation. Now that "sustainability" has finally caught on there (as has family planning) we see some recovery. China has finally realized that sustainability is good, growth is not so good. India and Pakistan is still learning this. Japan has figured this out completely, and totally. America is still struggling with the #religulous push to procreate, to stop abortions at all costs, and to grow because "growth is good"..... As an epidemiology and demographer, I must take issue with your views. Growth is not good for any nation. Growth is not good for the planet. Today 384,701 people will be born and 156,936 people will die, resulting in a net gain of 227,765 humans (give or take a few thousand). That's 158 more births, than deaths, per minute. This year 140 million babies will be born and 57 million people will die. I hate all politics, I don’t like either political party.
Diogenes comments on Jun 1, 2019:
I agree with that- but I am going to vote Green Party next time. Yes, we will get more of the same- and each new party promises change, but the change never materializes. A cardinal point, if we can't breath, we won't have to worry about anything.
Robecology replies on Jun 1, 2019:
@Diogenes Scientists decided over a decade ago to stop using the tru-ism of "Global Warming" and instead declare the real issue - the one hitting home - the facts regarding "Climate shift" as the official name of the issue related to our continued use and growth of fossil fuels. In the last 200 years we've uncovered and burned stored carbon that took tens of millions of years to be buried. The problem is that we've invented better, faster, cheaper ways to extract these fuels...so our prices have stabilized. Good for the economy; bad for our grandchildren's future. We assumed the environment would adjust; plants would speed up their photosynthesis; more seaweeds would grow to compensate. We were wrong. So to answer your question; yes; And mother nature's just getting started. The shifting rain patterns are the result of the growing population (158 more births, than deaths, per minute).using more fossil fuels and putting record amounts of "greenhouse gases" (not just CO2 but others) in to the air; which then acts like a greenhouse; traps the sun's heat, and warms our planet. Lots of the data I got from here; http://www.poodwaddle.com/worldclock/
