Update July 30th. I siged on to a Rental company - Coldwell Banker Paradise in Ft. Pierce....(PM me if you want contact details) and they sent a person to evaluate the rental rate. It received a 3 star (out of 1-5) rating...but I'm closing in on a 4 star. I already had the popcorn ceiling replaced with "knock-down".. .I installed ceiling fans in the 2 BR's and LR, and just bought an induction cooksurface range and side-by-side-water-ice-in-door refrigerator. To go to a 5 star I need granite counters in the kitchen and a furniture update...and I'm working on that. Sorry about the image rotations -this has been a problem at Agnostic since May.
Is there any truth to the "drink more water" advice?
Robecology comments on Jul 29, 2020:
There's such a thing as excessive water...but that's extremely rare. It often occurs in marathon runners who are hydrating excessively. That being said...it's better to err on the the side of excess than not enough. Our bodies are mostly water. 80-90%. It carries good stuff to cells, bad stuff out. Excessive keeps things moving. Not enough slows the process. I won't google the research....you can do that....but I've known folk who are suffering - from dialysis patients to folks who died because they didn't hydrate enough. So go with the excess. IMO.
What do I need?

In the United States, for example, women are more likely than men to say religion is “very important” in their lives (60% vs. 47%), according to a 2014 Pew Research Center survey. Why? Remember the vows of marriage is to "love, honor, and obey"....so there's that brain-washing going on. As Pew points out (in this link, below) ALL the prophets, ALL the god images are men. Dominant, outspoken, tough men. Marriage vows; even of those who do strictly non-religious ceremonies...still hint at the notion of "taking" a partner rather than sharing a lifetime together. The women of any - if not all - religions are painted as demure, passive, willing to be controlled and manipulated...and, for some, to be put on a pedestal and worshiped. So I'm guessing that - apparently - many women like this...they prefer it to being "independent" or pushing for equality. They like the inequality that the religious view takes....and - unfortunately - too many old fashioned/macho/religious men smile and accept this notion. https://www.pewforum.org/2016/03/22/the-gender-gap-in-religion-around-the-world/

There's a lot of hype attached to a fragrance. A pricey bottle, housing a few pennies worth of plant extract and alcohol, properly marketed... Was/is liquid gold. Robecology comments on Jul 27, 2020:
I'm glad you differentiate between "trolling" and debating. I've said what you've said - often. Did you know that folk don't even comprehend where the term came from? It's not the mythical deformed creature who lives under bridges. It comes from the verb "to troll" or fish using bait that is easily taken...often by "suckers". A Troller will throw out "bait" (absurd comments that are easilly arguable) and wait for the "sucker" to bite. The key is - as you suggest - belittling. Debaters never do that. Trollers and those who are "caught" by trollers do. Name calling. Those who've experienced debate groups call it "ad hominen attacks. Here's a guide. I keep mine handy and refer to it often. Debate me? Anytime. Troll me? you're blocked.

Jesus was gay?
Robecology comments on Jul 25, 2020:
Although he had many men close to him, I honestly believe he not only was intimate with a woman, but bore children by her. The "Da Vinci Code" book by Brown suggested the woman Mary Magdalen bore children fathered by Jesus that carried on the blood line to the present day - and The "Da Vinci Code' provoked a popular interest in speculation concerning the Holy Grail legend and Mary Magdalene's role in the history of Christianity. Mary allegedly was the key person to help remove his body from the cross, and bury him in a tomb...but oppression of women blocked her testiment in the bible. In fact; there's no text written by any women in the bible. The book has, however, been extensively denounced by many Christian denominations as an attack on the Catholic Church, and consistently criticized for its historical and scientific inaccuracies. But the book is a great read...strongly suggested!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Da_Vinci_Code

Don't feel so badly, or be so negative. Look at it this way...you 'committed" to making a relationship work...in public, in a ceremony. You tried really hard. (The first one I became single due to her passing from Cancer at a very young age). So don't think you have much to learn...you are who you are...good and bad...pretty much set in your ways. You've kept your health and made it to "maturity" so good for you. You are wise. You made wise decisions at the time. Assume that much.

“I, a stranger and afraid In a world I never made.” ― A.E. Housman, Last Poems
Robecology comments on Jul 22, 2020:
Leon Russell's greatest hits was "Stranger in a Strange Land" Here's the lyrics; [Verse 1] How many days has it been Since I was born How many days until I die Do I know any ways That I can make you laugh Or do I only know how to make you cry [Pre-Chorus 1] When the baby looks around him It's such a sight to see He shares a simple secret With the wise man [Chorus] He's a stranger in a strange land Just a stranger in a strange land Tell me why He's a stranger in a strange land Just a stranger in a strange land [Verse 2] How many miles will it take To see the sun And how many years 'til it's done Kiss my confusion away in the night Lay by my side when the morning comes [Pre-Chorus 2] And the baby looks around him And shares his bed of hay With the burro in the palace of the king [Chorus] He's a stranger in a strange land Tell me why He's a stranger in a strange land, woo Just a stranger in a strange land Just a stranger in a strange land Well, I don't exactly know what's going on in the world today Don't know what there is to say about the way the people are treating each other - not like brothers Leaders take us far away from ecology with mythology and astrology I've got some words to say about the way we live today - why can't we learn to love each other It's time to learn a new face to the whole world wide human race Stop the money chase - lay back, relax and get back on the human track Stop racing toward oblivion - oh, such a sad, sad state we're in And that's the thing - do you recognize the bells of truth when you hear them ring And here's the video; Interesting art/painting vignettes..and guitar by Eric Clapton. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV6u97beANs

It's a shame it's come to this - but as a demographer it's so predictable... Malthus - the father of demography - said, over 200 years ago..."as the quantity (of any one organism in any given area) increases, the quality of life decreases"...or to put it simply..."more and more fight harder and harder for less and less". This is just the tip of the iceberg...I'm afraid. But let's make the best of it....

For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed."

Calling names is in itself low...and thus I started reading it...and it does make sense.... But calling Americans "idiots" is like calling a below normal IQ person an idiot. - -it will not make him/her smarter... -it will only make them dig in their heals and resist change even more. Offer solutions. Offer ways out of the mess. But don't offer "tags" and degradation. That just makes you look even worse.
Do you believe that things said in the heat of the moment are actually the feelings of that person?
Robecology comments on Jul 21, 2020:
This depends on a few things... 1. Are either debater on drugs, or tired? 2. Are either debater understanding of the rules of debates/discussions/arguments? If you stoop to name calling - then you're not only conceding defeat, but doing so poorly. If you want to "share feelings" focus on why you might think that the other person is doing things differently/has a different opinion. Empathize. It helps you debate better....get to solutions faster. Post edit. I just read that you believe "god hates you" so you 1. believe in myths 2. Believe an allegedly loving, benevolent god hates. So this advice won't help you.

@TheMiddleWay. Carl Sagan wrote a great book...in fact his last...on this very topic. You might like it...called the "Demon Haunted World". You can go directly to page 210 wherein the "tools of the skeptic" are carefully laid out. Enjoy coming to the truth....thanks for joining us in debate, here. R
Questions Will someone please explain to me: 1 Why my number of fans goes up & down.
Robecology comments on Jul 19, 2020:
Members come, members go. Some join. Some drop out....or their relatives take them out - for various reasons...deceased...etc. I have no idea about the "number of fans" I have...why do you even care?
Sure could use a couple cups of that this evening

BLM - No - All Lives Matter?
Robecology comments on Jul 19, 2020:
This is such a vague phrase. Certain lives matter more to every individual than others. and science has proven - repeatedly with many different populations - -the more crowded it gets the less that other lives matter. J.R. Malthus, the father of Demography (population prediction studies) said more than 200 years ago; "As the quantity of life (of any one species in any given location) increases, the quality of life for each individual decreases. The logic is simple - more and more fight for less and less of the share of resources. This has inevitable consequences. Wars, conflict, diseases, extinction. Whether it's fruit flies, or rats, or humans....the studies prove this - repeatedly. Here's a study done in the 1960's https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1501789/pdf/califmed00143-0080.pdf Here's a follow-up to Calhoun's classic study, in '08 https://eprints.lse.ac.uk/22514/1/2308Ramadams.pdf The Pandemic will get worse. Global warming will get worse Conflicts with nations might not lead to nuclear assault...but might lead to economic dominance by other nations besides the US...which shouldn't be looked on as a bad thing. We will finally change this direction when we realize that it's our growth...our increase in population - that's causing all these problems. When we reach ZPG we will begin to see lives matter more.

I'm guessing that the numbers are fairly equal...but women are less outspoken about their religious or non-religious preferences. They know how to hide/go-with-the-flow better than men.

I used to think that the worst thing in life was to end up alone.
Robecology comments on Jul 19, 2020:
I'm sad about R.W. He wasn't thinking correctly when he said this...and when he took his life...he really wasn't thinking correctly. People don't "make you feel" anything....you decide what you feel or not. You, as an adult, are responsible for what "you feel"...not others. He was a genius...except for that one flaw that led him to suicide. The worst thing in life...IMO....is to lose control of your feelings of being alone, or being loved...so that you blame others who "make you feel". Ken Keyes jr.said it best...
Sometimes you just have to let Darwin take the wheel....

Why are you obese?
Robecology comments on Jul 19, 2020:
Obesity is a disease; but a better description for it is a sign of addiction. There's too many who not only find comfort in obesity, but call those who criticize it "fat shamers". As a friend of a woman who's close to being obese let me say how difficult it is to impress upon them the need to work on "fixing" this. I've sent her this. I'll share it with you on the chance we can share it with others and get this symptom of addiction addressed. Here's the website I got the map from; which quotes the CDC. You can get it from them directly but it's complicated. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/map_of_the_week/2013/04/obesity_in_america_cdc_releases_gif_of_epidemic_over_time.html
