@EllieUnique; thanks for your input...but I don't think we're on the same page. I'd put far more emphasis on the bad choices made by well-meaning parents. There's good and bad food out there; it's up to us to do the research. We don't have to eat FDA approved food....and it's unfair of you to say that the FDA approves anything that causes cancers.... I know the FDA....and they're very cautious. But assuming some foods do cause cancers - we don't have to buy them nor give them to children. And you're right about the profit motive; The money makers are the sugar rich foods....because there's still parents out there who think "spoiling" a child is a good thing. Again...the parents can choose; to give the baby and toddler carrots or cookies. To give him/her raisins and pieces of fruit or sugar-loaded candy. To. let him/her cry it out - or to give in to their every whim. Go to hospice care places near you so you get a feel for what they have there...good staff, adequate, great? You'll get a sense when you meet a few. He doesn't have to come....make this your quest. Let him enjoy what ever he wants...ask him...a drink? an Ice cream? Whatever he comes up with - that's his "bucket list... Make it so.

@MojoDave Please read what I've summarized above. If you have the time and interest, go to the links I provided. Calories in vs calories out is NOT B.S.; Its science. It's just very, very hard for a person to change their eating patterns. You ARE right about exercise. But we eat several times a day. We can't change our exercise habits that easily...so you're also right about the nearly useless value of exercise improving weight control. Health specialists have said this - not just me - that changing one's diet and permanently losing weight and changing one's diet is considered harder to do than quitting heroin....and it has a lot to do with WHEN the eating habits developed. Heroin abuser/users start in their teens. Food abuser/users started age 2 or 3. So the health issues are becoming clear; we need to treat obesity and poor diet with a much more serious attitude. Simply offering the many public diet plans are not enough. Simply providing medications that make you hyper and temporarily remove hunger won't change the deep-seated diet urges created in our pre-toddler years. Where science is weak is WHY folk who know they're shortening their lives and reducing their quality of life by eating the way they do - still do it. There's a lot of mental health work to do to fix this issue.

@MojoDave I addressed why the obesity is so widespread, and growing so fast, above. It's the almost pre-toddler diet choices that our parents made for us that set a deep mental strategy for satisfaction of both emotions and hunger. Some parents gave their kids carrots and celery. Some gave them raisins and fruits. Some gave them candies and cookies. Some let their children cry or they ignored their demands for food. Some "coddled" their children and fed them too often. Again; this is not a blaming of parents for the nations' obesity problems....they did the best with what they knew. A lot of blame goes to advertising, to family doctors, and to our health professionals who didn't stress well enough the need to establish wise and healthy eating habits in pre-todler children. I concur with you, and @RedHeadedGammy, also, that it's not necessarily an issue of too much fats, or too much sugars; It might have been simply a matter of providing too much food too often...regardless of its' fat or sugar content, or whether it was processed, or "junk" food. The science is out on quality of food ( I tend to think fruits and veggies are better - but the research doesn't support nor refute me here). It comes down to the frequency of food presentation to these 2 and 3 year olds. It was the quantity of food, more than the quality, that started many pre-todlers on a path towards obesity. @EyesThatSmile As a NYS permanently certified Health teacher I did a lot of research on this. What I discovered is this; We developed our eating habits...good and bad ones....before we could walk and talk. Our need for something in our mouth, our need to avoid hunger pangs....all got well established in our 2's and 3's. So of course changing our diets as adults is actually proven to be more difficult than getting a heroin addict off heroin. It's the "fault' of our beloved - but unwise - parents. We have to be careful not to blame them. They did the best they could. We just have to make today's parents more aware of the profound influence a parent has on a childs' eating habits.

For example; did you know we were once 90% CO2? The oceans were green because there was no oxygen in the early atmosphere; so iron compounds were suspended in water. Wow; let's call this Pasta Monday. I had a giant squash in the fridge that needed cooking...so I grilled the pieces, then rolled them up in lasagna noodles, added mozarella and sauce (anc chicken and olives) and made some nice individual servings for myself!

@Cutiebeauty The zucchini shrunk down as it 'grilled" even though I mixed it with olive oil and spices...which was good for me...I separate the cooked zucchini in to two batches and cooked half rolled up in the 5 lasagna noodles, and saved half (now in the freezer) for the next batch.

This, I think, has caused an error it its' interpretation (that distant objects are speeding up. The doppler shift is easy to prove with sound...we can hear the sounds change as the sound source passes us... but we can't be as objective with light. I don't think that the furthest items in the universe are gaining speed. I think that in years to come we're going to discover that we misinterpreted the red shift of these very distant objects primarily because of the lensing effect of light that causes it to speed up as it goes around large massive objects. You're on line, and although Agnostic.com is not officially a "dating" site, you must know that you - and I - and all of us communicating - are sharing who we are and what we think about different topics with a lot of people. @TomMcGiverin Sorry; I guess I was addressing the OP...Ron R...he's the 54 year old with one pic...he's the one I was referring to; but the message is the same; dating sites work. I had bad luck with match and with Eharmony; but I really did have decent success with OKcupid and POF ...and both allowed messaging for free. OK cupid actually had the question forum which I found useful. Agnostic may not be focused on "dating" but we can chat for free, we can post plenty of pics, and a detailed bio. I look at that as angst reducing features. Couple that with getting percentages based on what we're looking for; from distance to age range to education background to even height....and that should be angst reducing, not angst inducing.

@Redheadedgammy I like what you did in the corner; made the low rock wall abut against the wooded fence. I recommend the same thing for that "island" garden....just include that ugly utility box; that'll also save you mowing being the island (or weed-whacking) Hiding that box should be easier once the island is made in to a peninsula. Are you doing any veggies? It looks like you could certainly do a few tomato plants!?

@TomMcGiverin and @Ron_R; I agree about match...they are and were a rip-off. but I learned early on that POF was free to communicate, as was OK Cupid...so I used them. They worked with me. Just saying.... post plenty of pics here...this is free...I just checked your (RonR's) profile; only 2 pics...c'mon dude...get busy! And you're 54? You're running out of time, my friend! The more pics you post of you looking good/bad/funny/silly...the more likely women are to contact you! The more detailed your bio....the more comfortable a woman will be contacting you! It's smart...you get percentages based on your limits; height. distance from you, etc. they do all the sorting for you. I don't get why you get more angst from on line dating than random meeting of women in plays, dancing, etc as you described. They do a lot to reduce the angst. Do close up pics, full body pics, pics of you biking, walking your dog, eating, doing whatever....
