They were the final straw that broke my back. 4 separate times within a couple month period I caught those rascals in traps.... After suffering many a "break-in". through tears in the soffit (the lining under the roof) and poisons, even having to shoot one who kept "breaking in"...spending hundreds with attic traps and dead animal locators.... They made me sell my home and move north. I don't regret the move now; but did then.

I have mixed feelings on saving the desperate and ready-to-end-their-lives folk. On the one hand...it's always rewarding if you get to see a person with a bad situation get tough and face their hastles..and come out of their struggle with a glimmer of success. But - I might have to check stats here...I'm guessing most continue with a depressing life-situation. Their suffering continues...and so does all who are associated with them. On the other hand....sometimes (again; this is just me) I think it's better to let folks who've reached the end of their rope to not only let them go...but help them. Not necessarily push them, nor ignore them... But if it's "their time"...especially suffering seniors...I see a goodness in helping them say goodbye. I won't debate this with you... I really see a downhill trend in music from the 70's-80's through today, especially for classic rock, soft rock, and hard rock. I used to be a big Led Zep/ZZ top/Brian Adams fan....but I'm afraid I only enjoy them on rare occasion.

I'm so proud of myself; I have to brag to you, Dot... I actually came back from a party of mostly eating excess...and actually lost a tiny fraction of weight! I stood on the scale this AM and expected at least a 1-2 pound gain. But I did eat smart....only one stick (5 small pieces) of barbequed beef (kabab) a veggie Kabab (my efforts and contribution to the event) and some salads....and a piece of Amanda's birthday cake. It gives you a chance to travel to the new locale...get a feel for and flavor of it. #3. THEN do real-estate shopping. Find temporary housing first while looking for a good "investment. It worked for me when my first wife died in '77....I sent resumes to all the beach/shoreline towns in Florida; got a bite in Key Largo, flew down...locked it in...and it's been good ever since. I understand your frustration. As a short man who's often attracted to voluptuous women...it's been a problem for me. You rarely hate someone who's a stranger....it's often a loved one who "allegedly" betrayed or lied to you (or you to them) so you hate that the love has broken down...and the why is not clear....so you hate that they no longer love you. Next time consider how you act that leads to the betrayal or the breaking in trust. You may be encouraging the Hate in your partners.

Good scientists enjoy being proven wrong. They relish it...especially if your proof is detailed or documented well. Pseudo-scientists espouse lots of info but rarely "cite" their sources. They come on as "know-it-alls" and instead of telling you sources, they'll put the onus on you to "prove me wrong". So to answer your question of "How do you deal with people in social settings that speak with authority..." I reply; "as a teacher, I constantly reminded my students that "being a scientist" is a state of mind...not a paid position. If you are a calm skeptic....not rude, not arrogant...you just quietly demand the facts and evidence - you're being "a scientist". Wow! Researchers have suggested that the finding may reflect an example of self-mummification where monks undertook years of grueling rituals to mummify themselves to death. Living on the beach - and visiting beach resorts on the "4th" - I'd suggest doing that. Many fireworks - both pro and amateur - take their goodies to the beaches for parties and displays. My first video on my phone - ever - was in the summer of 2008 (09?) on the beach in Panama city. The fireworks displays were hours long...up and down the beach....it was breathtaking, and amazing.
