@JeffMurray I agree that the MAGA people are too far gone. There is little hope for them. Still I don't think it's a good idea to tell them to go away and kick them out of the discourse because when people on the fence see us arrogantly dismissing them, it's a bad look. It drives people who away who may have otherwise been reachable. Far better to out debate them and them so that other people who may be looking in can see that their position is weak and immoral.

When in such an underdog position, you will inevitably lose, a lot, the only way to make progress is to keep on trying. RoboGraham replies on Aug 12, 2020:
@Sgt_Spanky Totally agree. I think there is something to this idea that an assertive man is seen as a good leader while a similarly assertive woman, maybe, by some people, can be seen as abrasive or bitchy. That's not okay. But at the same time, this does not exempt woman from criticism. Inevitably, some female leaders are going to be overly dominant and controlling, just as male leaders can be, and we need to be able to point that out. Otherwise, there is a double standard. There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism. It's how people learn of their flaws and improve. I also take issue with his idea that we can't even talk about this stuff until woman are on completely even footing with men for a very long time. If we can't even discuss it until then, how are we supposed to make it so that women will reach equality?

I just disagree with the tactics of telling people to get out of the way if they don't see things the same way you do. We win people over by conversing with them. If we just tell them to go away, we don't have a chance of convincing them of anything. It's akin to when Hilary dismissed half the country by calling them deplorables. That didn't work out well for her. What do you even mean by "get out of the way". Do you expect that people will shut up and not participate just because you tell them to go away?

@Storm1752 What you call nitpicking, I see as massive moral failings and an ideology which is opposed to my own. I think there are lots of reasons they chose her and I doubt any of them had much to do with her willingness and ability to lead effectively for the working class. I'm not aware of the Midwestern states finding Kamala particularly appealing. Maybe you know something I don't about that. I do know that her home state is a given so not much help there. Yes, perhaps she will be an excellent prosecutor and bring people in the current administration to justice. She does have a record of being tough on crime and keeping people behind bars. Sometimes, she is a bit over zealous about that. She blocked early release of prisoners so as not to harm prison labor programs. She was also very aggressive in locking up marijuana users. On the other hand, she sometimes took it easy on people, such as Steve Mnuchin. She declined to prosecute his bank after findings of gross misconduct. It seems she is keen to bring the full force of the law upon the poor but completely willing to let the crimes of the ulta-wealthy slide by unpunished. So by that track record, I'd wager she has no intention of going after anyone important. I hadn't considered that Joe chose her because he is attempting to do right for the country. I didn't think of that because Joe has never demonstrated a willingness to do good for us. I've only seen him act in his own self interests and for those of his wealthy donors. So it didn't come to mind.

It leads people to think it means get rid of police, and some do think that way, but most of us are reasonable and just want to spread the load so cops can focus on violent crimes and other public servants better equipped and trained for other types of disturbances can take care of those. I saw a portion of this podcast and I was dismayed about this idea that science is racist because Europeans created it. That is a dangerous notion. We need to be fighting racism but we absolutely can not allow stupidity like that to get in the way of using science to solve problems. But the insurance companies don't want to lose their ability to profit off of people's need for healthcare. The majority support making public colleges free and forgiveness of student loans. But there is money to be made so it's not going to happen. The majority want tax rates for the very wealthy to be increased and loopholes closed, but, well, obviously wealthy people don't, so their tax rates continue falling. The majority want to limit campaign funding so wealthy people can't have as much influence. But wealthy people have already bought the politicians so the bribes continue to flow. For all of these examples, the majority want what is best for regular people and the special interest want what is best for them. And every single time, it's the special interests who win the political battle because they fund the representatives who are supposed to represent the people.

@Fred_Snerd Well then you are in the same boat i am. Your state will go a certain way regardless of your vote so might as well vote the best candidate which is unquestionably the green. If the greens get enough votes, they get influence and the right to speak on debate stages. I think that is the best way to spread the message of socialism into the mainstream.

@Fred_Snerd The fact that we have a capitalist economic system doesn't make it an occupied country. That's just unfortunate and unfair way to organize our economic activity. I'd call it an occupation when marshal law is declared. Or if the police state becomes so developed that it's like living under marshal law even if it isn't official.

@St-Sinner There's nothing wrong with supporting the best candidate, even if that candidate fails. Especially if that candidate fails because the party is crooked and totally resistant to positive change. I get a lot of shit on here for concentrating too much on criticizing democrats rather than focusing on trump and the right wing. It's most of what I do when talking politics these days. There are quite a few simple minded members who will tell you that I'm a troll because I bring up the truth about Biden, Pelosi, and the rest of the establishment. I've made this group for the express purpose of holding Biden accountable. Is that good enough for you?

@St-Sinner The money donated funded his advertisements and propagated his progressive message. Which is a very good thing. He brought socialist policies into the mainstream. And most importantly, he pioneered the strategy of rejecting the bribes of the wealthy and funding exclusively through small dollar donations, which is the future and our best chance at breaking the stranglehold on power that the plutocrats have. Despite all of your bashing, he was the least corrupt and had the best intentions. That goes a long way.

@St-Sinner Being non-religious has nothing to do with being a good person. It just means that you don't believe a bunch of dogmatic BS. You have to build your morality after throwing off the shackles of religion. Atheism doesn't have morality built in, it's the the rejection of the supernatural. And yes I do think that being negative toward a destructive force, such as Joe Biden, is a positive thing to do.

RoboGraham replies on Aug 9, 2020:
I'm hoping he will win too. Biden has done much harm. He intensified the war on drugs. He exploded the prison population with his war on poor people known as the crime bill. He made it so that I will never have a chance to file for bankruptcy due to student loans if it ever gets that bad, which it might honestly. He has been a very important voice in keeping cannabis illegal which I find particularly backward and extremely insulting to my way of life. He played a very large part in getting us into Iraq which had disastrous effects on people I know personally. He has always sided with predatory lenders over borrowers and is antagonistic toward consumer protection. And the cherry on top, he has vowed to veto med4all which is the single most important piece of legislation of my generation. So yeah, in my opinion, fuck Joe Biden

Right, the Trump pinata group has served it's purpose and will likely no longer be relevant because there is a good chance he will lose. So now we need a similar group for the man most likely to replace him. I think it's important to criticize the most powerful person, no matter who it is. I see loads wrong with Pelosi and the entire party. There is much to be said on that subject but a group already exist for that. It's the anti-democratic party liberals group. I don't think any of us are holier than any one. We are a bunch of atheists. Not sure where you get the idea that I'll be glorifying Biden, the point of the group is the exact opposite. I spoke well of Bernie because he deserved it and earned it with his efforts to move the country left and his advocacy for positive policies to help the working class. What does that have to do with the Biden group? Oh right, you look for any reason possible to speak bad about Bernie and bring up my support of him. Well have at it. Let's hear more of your "truth"

I'm just making it crystal clear that, unlike many other of political groups, this one will be accepting of everyone.
