@Cutiebeauty Who would want to live in a country where those who have the most don't contribute the most. If it worked in the past, which it did, it can work now. The time period of the most rapid economic growth the country has ever seen was the same time period when taxes were the highest. It didn't result in loss of jobs. People didn't work less hard. It resulted in a large vibrant middle class and much less poverty, homelessness, crime, and misery than we have now.

It doesn't have to be wasted. We used to use it to heavily subsidize higher education and we used to have a strong social safety net, and we used to actually take in enough revenue that we didn't need to build up an enormous deficit which is going to overwhelm us someday. It also prevents individuals from becoming so rich that they can wield enormous power and influence through their wealth, such as Mike Bloomberg. All of that is good for the average citizen.

Have you seen the numbers? Moderates are supporting Sanders nearly as much as they are supporting Biden. With the option of Trump or Sanders, the vast majority of moderates will do what we progressives have been doing for decades, suck it up, get in line, and vote for your party's nominee. Bernie has been an independent for most of his career. This is seen as a positive to independent voters. They are independent because they don't like the democratic party so someone like Sanders, an outsider, will do better with independents. Finally, core democratic voters, well that's the democratic base, yes? At the core of the party is the progressive base, That is Sanders' wing of the party. Of course they will vote for him. They will vote, make calls, knock on doors, argue with idiots on the internet, whatever it takes.

It is a moot point. An unproductive discussion. That is the rule of the game and the sooner we get good at it the better. If we dont, we will have to continue bitching that "Oh, but Hillary Clinton won the popular vote in 2016."
RoboGraham replies on Feb 23, 2020:
I think you mean that it is a moot point, which it isn't, it's very relevant. You moderates already are good at it. It benefits you rather than the true winner. That's why it exists, to keep the status quo, to enure that the powers that be remain in power. If you can understand that the electoral college victory of Trump was unfair to Hillary, why is it hard to see that a super delegate victory for some moderate is unfair to Sanders?

You have a list of 14 bombshells, each proving that Bernie is a dirty communist. Taken all together, there can be no doubt, he is Stalin lovin commie. First, let me tell you why I'm suspicious. As I mentioned earlier, Bernie has been running for a long while now. He is the current leader and came close last time. The establishment, the media, the elites, the billionaires, they all want him taken down because they realize that he is a true reformer for the people who will end their corruption and hurt their bottom line. So the most powerful people in the country are highly motivated to find dirt on him. He already has an association with communism because he calls himself democratic socialist and many Americans are too ignorant to know that they are not the same thing. So these people are looking for exactly the sort of information that you provided and they've had a long time to search. Once they find something like this, they will show it everywhere to ruin their competitor's reputation and remove him as a threat to their power. But I haven't seen any of this before. I follow this stuff closely and this is the first time I've seen these accusations. Why is that? Wouldn't this stuff be on the front page all over the place? I mean they are so desperate to attack him with something that they are going after his supporters, saying they are mean and abusive. Why wouldn't they use this smoking gun you have here to just show everybody that he really is a communist? And of course the answer is that it isn't really true. The source you provided, the New York Post, is a right wing sensationalized paper owned by Rupert Murdoch. I don't doubt that there are some kernels of trust to some of those points, especially those that point out his affinity for Debs, the hero of the labor movement of the 20th century, but I also don't trust this to be factual. I've heard Sanders compliment the public transportation of the Soviet Union and he said they have beautiful public spaces. Big deal, complementing your country's ideological enemy doesn't make you a commie. I've never heard him say anything good about there government or economic system. I think he is just open minded enough and unnationalistic enough to recognize and feel comfortable speaking about the positive qualities of other nations, even ones that we are at odds with. Finally, lets say hypothetically, all this stuff, all 14 of your points are 100% true. It really doesn't matter. Even if somehow his secret goal is to bring communism to America, it isn't possible. He will have a hell of a time just ...

@St-Sinner Most definitely. Honesty is a top quality. I've seen Bernie be honest before. I'm not sure that he ever was a communist. Most likely, he just wasn't as anti-communist as everyone around him during that time of fear and cold war. This is his second time running. the media and the establishment are doing all they can to stop his momentum. Something tells me that if what you are claiming were true, if he ever was an actual communist, it would have been all over the news long ago.

@St-Sinner The cold war is long over. These red scare tactics fall flat. To whatever extent that any of that is true, it won't do much damage. Visiting and complementing ideological rivals doesn't make you a communist. @twshield This is from Steve Kornacki on MSNBC- https://twitter.com/SteveKornacki/status/1228036582994784256?s=20 Socialism is when the government controls the means of production and the distribution of goods and services. That's not Sanders' policy. He is a social democrat who believes in free but regulated markets with a strong progressive tax system to supply revenue to be invested into social programs for the greater good of the society and it's people. That's why he calls himself democratic socialist rather than socialist. It is not hypocritical of him. He is a presidential candidate, he has to move quickly all around the country or he has no chance of being elected. It's not like he is doing it for his own enjoyment. In addition, he has no problem with people getting rich and flying person jets if they want to. He encourages success and earning wealth, he just wants the wealthy to pay their fair share. Why can't he be rich himself and advocate for the poor? FDR was in the 1% and he gave us the New Deal. Now, billionaires on the other hand are a different story. They are the .0001%. Yes it is absurd that any individual can amass that much wealth. It is a recipe for oligarchy and a direct threat to democracy. Bernie is old but certainly more energetic and sharp than anyone else his age. I don't care how old he is, he capable and he has a long record of doing whats right. Even if he ends up not lasting his full term, just the fact that a democratic socialist was able to get elected in America would break the stranglehold on power of the neoliberal elites and would open the flood gates for younger reformers to continue Bernie's legacy.

@Captain_Feelgood You are confusing with this comment. In the other conversation with sinner, I said that it would be stupid to nominate Bloomberg because he has so much racist baggage that he could never win because we need the black and latino vote. Here I'm saying that democrats who look the other way about Bloomberg's racism, plutocracy and sexual assault allegations have 0% integrity because they constantly get on Trump about those things and now they want to nominate Bloomberg, not because he is a good leader but simply because he has the money to compete. So in both cases I'm pointing out what a shitty candidate Bloomberg is. Yes I'm worried about who the (my) candidate is, of course I am. One is a racist, republican plutocrat and other, the one I prefer, is fighting to give us a rational healthcare system, criminal justice reform, green new deal, debt relief... Where is the confusion?

@MissKathleen If democrats aren't willing to give republicans what they want, why was the patriot act recently extended? Why did the already enormous military budget get even larger by billions of dollars? Why does Trump now have a space force to brag about? Why is there a new NAFTA that's even worse than the old one? All of these things went through the democratic controlled House with Nancy Pelosi at the helm. Those sound like some very significant compromises to me. And what did we get out of them? Parental leave for federal workers. That's great, but not only was it a compromise, it was a lopsided compromise in their favor. If they take back the Senate, they will surely have more power and will need to compromise less. But they will have no chance at vetoing anything. Two thirds majority is needed in both houses of Congress. There is no possible way to get enough for a two thirds majority in the Senate without also winning the presidency. Even if we win the presidency, it's extremely unlikely that we would get Two Thirds. The way to win the Senate is through very high turnout for the presidency. People come out in large numbers to vote for president and vote for senator while they're at it. Without those large numbers, the senate can't be won, and with those large numbers, the presidency will definitely be won. The presidency has been increasing in power over the decades. it is now much more important to control it than Congress. There's is no way we will have enough Senate votes to veto him so there would be much he could be able to do to continue causing harm. He must replaced. That is most important. And the upshot is, if we put enough effort into winning the presidency, the Senate will most likely come along with it because it will take a very large turn out to win and if we have a large enough to turnout to win, that means many dem Senators will be winning too. Then we have it all and we can reverse this damage and start making positive reforms to deal with all the crises we are facing.

Notice the party where he says genocide of bad HUMANS is the way to exterminate cockroaches of mankind. I didn't say the post should be taken down, I didn't say he should be kicked out or anything like that, hell I didn't even block him. I did the opposite of censorship, I put his words in a new post where MORE people can see it and here we are talking about it. You don't stop hate through censorship, you fight it with social pressure. The idea is that many people will see his words, feel disgusted with him, comment accordingly, and cease to communicate with him and that will make him think twice before saying crazy immoral shit again. I very much didn't expect that there would be others jumping to his defense and advocating for genocide along with him.
