We have had sunny warm weather here in the UK for a while - if this is global warming, I thank you all for your efforts at improving my particular spot on the planet

ShadowAmicus comments on Mar 1, 2019:
There is pain with some memories and it will always be there... you need a brain oubliette, a hole where you shove those memories, forget they are there and get on with living. If something happens to release them into your view - deal with it, round them up and shove them back where they can fade and die - which they never do. (A French term, an oubliette translates as “a little place of forgetting.” An underground chamber, shaped like a beehive, an oubliette is only accessible from the outside in via a trapdoor at the top. Often used to store an enemy until hey died of starvation)
Nervous much? ?

And for the ladies you sit, look up and in front of you,... whose picture would you want staring at you from the door - an unknown hunk, movie star, singer ???

If you're single, are you lonely?
ShadowAmicus comments on Mar 1, 2019:
Loneliness is a state of mind .. I often spend days alone with my dog, but am rarely lonely... there is always something to do and people can be sought out if needed.. Have been desperately alone when working in places where very few speak English, limited outside communication, under time pressure to deliver results in difficult conditions and failure is not an option worth contemplating... the times when the only friendly voice is the repetative french lady on the phone telling you there are no new messages .. that was a long time ago and even now I shake a little at the memory.
Time to teach, my classes vary in volume but they are always fun and I try to make sure everyone has...

The deadly truth about a world built for men – from stab vests to car crashes Crash-test ...
ShadowAmicus comments on Feb 23, 2019:
a lot of the article is based on dubious interpretation of stats. Fall in the number of deaths at work linked with an increasing percentage among women. If you go back 100 years the mining, fishing, building, chemicals, armed forces and other 'dangerous' jobs were done almost exclusively by men. Most jobs related to these once major employers are now done abroad. At the same time the number of women in the workforce has dramatically increased, so women as a % of work place deaths is a likely outcome. Research on cancer is almost always directed toward easy targets - ie where people are dying from an identified common background - working in asbestos factories, with particular chemicals, a dusty mine environment, etc and it is relatively easy to obtain funding where a high death toll is identified. Some cancer related hemicals are known to be absorbed by fats - male or female - generally obesity is named as the causal link - more fat than 'normal' people. Testing chemicals in isolation is again easier 100 chemicals to test = 100 test programmes 100 chemicals to test as pairs = 100 x 99/2 = 4500 test programmes - the logistics for all chemicals used becomes an unrealistic objective - but where a causal link with a chemical mix is identified it should be investigated. Body armour and other ppe incorrectly fitting - sadly, if more people die from incorrect sizing there may be legislation to change standards... though manufacture of items could fairly easily be tailored to individuals - a 3d body scan, 3d image processing and computerised manufacture of the item. Should the technology become common, with items redesigned to simplify manufacture the costs per item should fall to only a little above current standard production costs Read of made to measure suits being made this way somewhere in the far east As for crash test dummies and the average man - who does he look like - men go from 7 - 20+ stone in weight. Most of the article is not a 'womens' problem - simply a standards problem.
Can you remember the best decision you've every made?

Perhaps single is a personal choice. Some people do single better than married.
ShadowAmicus comments on Feb 21, 2019:
Persons A and B love each other - person A has sex with person C - this means person A can no longer love person B. I just don't agree with the concept. If you love that one person you must want them to be happy. There must be times when your partner will find happiness with another person. That could be a day out at cinema, for a meal, a walk, etc or it could mean an afternoon (preferably longer) making love with someone. If the love between two people is strong these 'time away' sessions make no difference to that relationship- if it does, the relationship was not strong to begin with. (Yes - I know this is controversial to western minds)

Reading the attachment - about playing hard to get / playing it cool. IMHO if you see someone you find attractive, tell them and let them know, without being 'intrusive'. .. if you don't take the chance you will never know what opportunity passed you by .. the only possible downside is that someone is not interested in you - handle lifes minor rejections. When I was just 18 and travelling to work each day on the bus I would see a girl standing at a stop, waiting for a different bus. I would smile at her, she would smile back and we did this most days for quite a while. One day she got on my bus and sat a few seats away, we both smiled but I was too shy or scared of what everyone around would think if I went across and talked to he, a few stops later she got off the bus. We never did speak, make a true connection .. and I have regretted it ever since. because I didn't take the risk and never found out what might have been.

Its not a battle - its a dance ... you meet a new partner, move around together, get the feel of each other, your bodies touch, maybe tingle, sweat a little, become as one, then part a little - both must agree to dance on, or to part and find another dance partner. You may remember the beauty of that dance for ever, but don't allow it to dull the experience of the next one. Dance with men, not boys - some time you may find you only really love the one.

ShadowAmicus comments on Jan 27, 2019:
The fundamental problem for humanity is population expansion - climate change, food and water shortages, plastics, air and other pollution, all go back a rapidly growing number of humans all wanting more of the earths resources. In any other species we would define it as a plague - and like other plagues will be self extinguishing as resources run out.
"Adults keep saying we owe it to the young people, to give them hope.
ShadowAmicus comments on Jan 26, 2019:
Global warming means dramatic changes in weather patterns, some heatwaves, droughts, storms and floods but none of that will end human life on the planet - though of course large parts of many coastal cities and towns (London, New York etc) will be submerged. The more probable end of humanity will be a virus, maybe ebola variants, particularly once antibiotics become ineffective. Then of course there are the ever present possibilities of nuclear war, meteor strike, supervolcano, sunspot energy pulses and too many other routes to devastation, Moral of all this - don't worry - live well and seek happiness and maybe you will grow old and die with a broad smile on your face.
Looking for some feedback.

Does anyone else here actually sit and think about the philosophical ideas of God, Love, .
ShadowAmicus comments on Nov 26, 2018:
OK .. throw this into the cauldren. I believe totally (I hope rationally) in reincarnation. This earth, and the whole universe, is nade up of billions of atoms. My body is a collection of those atoms, put together to form 'me'. When I die I will become a lump of meat, just like any other animal ... simply a collection of salts, amino acids, proteins, water etc. When a tree or other inanimate life dies, it becomes the same. But all of 'me' is recycled by nature. My decaying body will split apart .. blood and water may soak into the ground, flesh eaten by bacteria and other animals, bones slowly decay to dust ... but all of those proteins, minerals etc will become a part of new life in the animals and plants that consume me .. or maybe be trapped in the rock or soil for thousands of years, till eventually some life form absorbs that little atom of 'me'. All part of the natural world .. and to me, it is reincarnation. I hope to (following a quietish death) be devoured by a large carnivore
Overpopulation – The Root Cause of Our Problems – Why Is It a Taboo Topic?
ShadowAmicus comments on Nov 25, 2018:
Whenever there is a plague level population explosion the earth comes up with a way to devastate that species .. see it work with locusts, rats, etc .. whether it be nuclear self destruction, disease, loss of vital supplies (air, water, food) or some other mechanism, it will happen at some point. I hope that other species on the earth will not be too badly affected.
