@CourtJester It's all about unenumerated rights. The Constitution does not have to say that in so many words, for such protections to apply in other areas. Not really, both are important rights. More examples conceivably exist, but the possible options are hardly misrepresented though, and the bottom line there was that banning things do not magically make them disappear forever. When it comes to bans/banning things, it is one way or the other, they either work or they don't and there's no in between on that.

@Garban The links to other posts that often times appear at the bottom of newer posts have no regards for the dates on any posts. You can bookmark favorite posts on here, I sure do, and go back sometimes to see if there were any new replies. That said, is it really a terrible thing to comment/reply on older posts? Or do you just use that as an excuse in order to deflect focus away from the comment or reply you received because for whatever reason you don't want to directly respond to the reply in question? Me thinks that's the case, and afterall if you go that route you could then pretend to have not heard what the other side was saying so as to keep believing in and reinforcing your own views even if the other individual had linked to something citing evidence to the contrary of what you'd wish to be true. I noticed you did just that on your last gun control post I commented on the other week (think that was an older post too). While I can understand you doing that for the more serious posts talking about politics etc, not sure why you'd want to do that regarding a comment that was meant to be humorous (regardless of how corny you may have thought it was)? Geez, didn't realize I was trolling on a friend's post, how terrible of me to do something like that. You had mentioned on another post that you were bored, so figured I'd up my game a bit so you wouldn't be as bored, and Odin forbid that's a terrible thing for Garban to be bored on here, we wouldn't want that now... @TheInterlooper I'm a horrid man for trolling on your posts bro, Garban just said so and he could never be wrong about such now could he? Promise I'll try my best not to troll about on posts of yours that are older, although thought it worth mentioning that X-Mas will be over soon enough which means it's time for me to go back to being naughty, so that may be easier said than done for me...

@273kelvin Or maybe it was that they didn't have as many disgruntled and violent people back then as there are today. It's all about violence directly in general, and if there aren't any violent people present then there won't be any violent crimes in which guns were used. In the last two decades the US has seen a sharp rise in violent gang activity, mental illness, and addictions to varying substances which in turn could promote an increase in violent tendencies/crimes, and so far we have been unable to resolve those issues and so the violent crimes continue to be on the rise.

@silverotter11 I didn't like Reagan, he was crooked and supported gun control measures, in particular measures that hurt black people who wanted to arm themselves against militarized police whom of which had a tendency to brutalize blacks in their custody. When it comes to past Presidents in more recent times, Kennedy did circles around Reagan. Health care for all is not the biggest problem there, the price of hospital services etc is also a problem, and not enough Dem politicians have a plan to tackle that issue. While big pharma is another problem, far too many doctors and nurses charge outrageous fees for their services, costs of which alot of citizens cannot afford. I've yet to see either the Dems or Repubs come up with any viable longterm solution to that issue. Can't say I'm totally in favor of cutting back Social Security, but I am generally in favor of cutting back on the others you mentioned. SNAP is a safety net of the sorts and not meant to be a longterm solution to poverty, as one of the real solutions to poverty is creating new jobs that pay decently and will be around for some time. When you have one person who is working full time to support their family and barely make enough to put quality food on their table, and yet another person who is unemployed and probably could easily get employed somewhere else who in the meantime went on SNAP and can get lobster, there is something truly wrong with that picture. Medicaid is another program that could use some improving, as anyone on Medicaid should be required to work at least a few days per week in order to get coverage, only possible exception there is for any of those who are seriously disabled and physically could not go to a job every day. When we have too many people who are not paying into the system like they should be (via taxes), that poses a problem for sufficient funding for social safety nets like SNAP and Medicaid. Apparently unemployment benefits are another program that is being abused. Two years ago my one uncle and one of his friends he had worked with retired, and yet they both claimed unemployment benefits for a year, and my uncle even admitted that what he did was wrong, but you know... the "free" money there was too good to pass up on. I live around people who are gaming the system and most of them aren't even shy about what they are doing, and one woman that lives in my building literally bragged about buying expensive foods (lobster in this case) with her SNAP card and fed it to her dog. It's that kind of crap that encourages Repubs to make new laws cutting back funding for social safety nets like those, and they wouldn't totally be wrong for thinking that way either. Benefits fraud is a very real thing. As for the media sources/platforms nowadays, I've been ...

It's not just the Republicans going after the guns, and neither major political Party is actually upholding the Constitution as a whole like they should be doing. As for the last part, we all need to ask ourselves what exactly has changed in the last twenty years that mass shooting incidents are becoming more common? Prior to 1986 citizens could have owned fully automatic weapons, yet back then mass shootings were a rarity. Don't think guns are the problem, but mental illness along with addictions and anger problems and lack of even a basic education have been a recipe for disaster. If something doesn't change there for the better, I doubt the random acts of violence won't go away. In the twenty or so years since neither Party has been able to solve that problem and return to the days where such random acts of violence were rare.

@Diaco I can understand your point on the limitations part, but how much will we seek to limit though is what I question, and what could apply to one right could apply to all of them then. For those who are concerned about private citizens being able to own what would be considered high-powered weapons, they should be equally if not more concerned about the type of weapons the Federal Government and police forces possess, for I fear them far more possibly getting drunk on their power and abusing the rights of others than I am of otherwise law-abiding gun owners. Police officers are supposed to be peace time officers, yet some of them these days possess more weaponry and body armor than our troops overseas do, which makes me wonder why peace officers need that kind of equipment? As long as they have their weapons, think I'll hold onto mine too. That's fine if you're here to ask questions/learn. If I can find them I'll tag you in a few of my older posts that would explain in better detail why I think as I do when it comes to gun rights. @Diaco I don't think every single human being in the world requires interactions from fellow humans, there are exceptions to that. Not arguing that much, which is why societies have so many faults. Only problem there is that the experts can be wrong at times. Collective wisdom is not always all it's cracked up to be either, and most religious factions out there believe their respective groups hold a vast amount of collective wisdom, which would not exactly be true. Not sure everything out there could be fixed, and sometimes it might be best to start all over. As for voting goes, we haven't made much progress in that area since the Kennedy days, and somehow despite many people supposedly voting against the corrupt politicians a good portion of them manage to keep their jobs regardless. The majority is not always right. True, but I don't see anything improving where that point is concerned, and don't foresee there being any meaningful changes made in the years ahead. Not arguing that much either per se, but when democracy fails tyranny can get a foothold, and despite all the supposed checks and balances far too many crooked individuals are still in charge of running things. Can't say I'm good at tolerating that crap you described there, which is why I do often times vote a third-Party candidate. Also, I didn't care for Dr. Oz, thought he was an elitist jerk, but Fetterman is even more of a jerk and radical though. No arguing there, and personally I hold no allegiance to any faction or brand. China has been bad for the US no doubt, but I suspect Russia is an even worse threat. Never was a big fan of social media myself. While every system may not be a religion per se, my point was that alot of them mimic religion quite well, especially when it comes to establishing certain protocol that everyone else must adhere to in order to be accepted. I'm humbled by your words there, much appreciated. When one considers the overall political leanings of this site in particular, someone like me is in the minority, and I kinda like it that way. Diversity is truly a good thing, and people having a difference in opinions is also a good thing. I'm content being me, and don't desire for everyone else to be like me. I can only hope you are right about that, as so far I've yet to witness such on a large scale. For too long now I've sat back and observed both political extremes attack each other's individual rights, and can only wonder to myself when all of that will finally change?
I wasn't clear enough the previous time I brought this up, but I am now.

SpikeTalon replies on Nov 25, 2022:
@Garban (In best sith impression) Darth Garban, this is Emperor Biden here with a special message for you, I need your help in promoting my new semi-automatic gun ban initiative. Those type of weapons are sick, just sick, and we don't want them in our society. No private citizen needs them, and we have federal agents and police that will always keep us safe. Besides, conceivably people armed with such weapons could stand in our way when we go to limit other constitutional rights, and we certainly can't have that now can we? That is our plan by the way, which I'm sure you were already privy to, me Pelosi and Schumer & company had planned that once we are able to disarm all the legal gun owners we could then be in a position to do away with all the other constitutional rights. Our voter base actually believes that we are trying to defend rights like gay and abortion rights, but that's hardly the case and we keep telling the people what it is we think they want to hear and keep promising them the rights they care about will be defended, all the while secretly working with our Republican allies to undermine those rights. Funny how such voters largely hadn't noticed that since June aside from talking and complaining about the recent attacks on abortion and LGBT rights, we haven't seriously taken any meaningful measures that would protect those rights, because in reality it's not in our better interest to do so. The christian sith theocracy rules in this country, and the day is gradually coming where we will have sole control in the country once again. But first we must totally do away with private gun ownership, and anyone who dares to resist shall be declared an enemy of the Republic. Pay no regards to pro individual rights radicals like those @SpikeTalon and @TheInterlooper fellers, their "betrayal" shall be dealt with soon enough, and if their kind resist us and our vision for a unified christian sith theocracy they shall be terminated if need be. We do what we must to preserve the Empire for which it stands, and we know given your Military past experience Darth Garban, along with your cold and calculating ways, you will help us in our bid to disarm all the private citizens and promote the anti-gun rights message far and wide. Do what must be done Darth Garban, move swiftly and show no mercy. You despise them Garban, as they are terrible and horrible people. Your rage and resentment makes you strong, it gives you focus! Help out your Empire, and you will be handsomely rewarded. Once more the christian siths shall rule America, and there shall be "peace and equality" for all. That is, once we are able to fully ban all types of guns. Spread the word, it is time to execute Order 667, code named "Neighbor of the Beast".

SpikeTalon replies on Nov 25, 2022:
@Diaco Who says every human being is a social animal. I think there may be some exceptions to that. As for rules for society... I can agree some rules/guidelines would be a good idea, but where do we draw the line on between making rules to help keep society orderly and somewhat peaceful, and what would constitute excessive and needless authoritarianism? You also need to ask yourself, since you specifically mentioned negatives such as greed and abusing power, are more laws meant to curb such behaviors warranted knowing full well we still deal with excessive abuses of power and greed and poor judgments being rendered, which would indicate that the laws already on the books aren't/haven't been working out that well and so perhaps another solution is in the works? You said we can't trust on people's decisions... you are aware of the fact that our democracy/Government is run by human beings right? So if what you said is actually true, then in essence you are admitting that democracy/Government doesn't really function any better or more fairly than say anarchy would, because common sense should dictate that if people cannot be trusted on an individual level then any sort of human collectivism (aka democracy etc) could not be trusted either. It either works or it doesn't, no in between on something like that. That said, I disagree with you on that assessment, and believe that most human beings if it was left up to them minus any coercion, would make mostly benign choices that would not upset the lives of their fellow human beings. If you still disagree with that conclusion, please keep in mind that over the years and to this day many poor decisions have been made by our Government. When it comes to human beings, poor choices and lack of judgment are bound to occur, but think that margin of error would be less in a voluntary society. I may very well be wrong about such a conclusion, but then again I could make a case that our current system of running things is not exactly working out as intended either. You asked what kind of authority do we need? I agree with you on all of those as neither gods kings or dictators would be the viable longterm solution, but also would take things a bit further than what you suggested by ditching democracy too. In reality, none of those four are a solution, and keep in mind that democracy is pretty much majority rules and gets all the say while the minority gets left out in the cold. Don't you think a fair society would at least consider the minority's feelings, and maybe strive to reach a solution that pleases and is fair to everyone. Besides, the majority is not always right, historically speaking right up to modern times. Was the majority right for electing a guy like Trump to President? I'd say not, and same goes for ...

Daddy Diaco, sounds kinda catchy eh? And don't forget now, Daddy Diaco always knows best, lol. Sorry I couldn't resist, since you did use that as an example... It's not that the nation state is a religion unto itself, certain human beings can and have turned it into that. There are some among us who all but worship the ground these politicians walk on (think how some deify the likes of Trump and Obama for example), and create their own graven images, like MAGA for instance. It seems human kind must always have some sort of "benevolent" being running things whether that be an invisible sky magician or a politician, rather than accept and embrace natural inclinations. Why do you suppose nothing ever appears to change for the better in our country, as we continue voting for the same old same old yet expect to achieve different results. Politics are just another tool that humans use to attempt to control and manipulate fellow human beings, and the State is the workshop. Groucho Marx summed up politics quite accurately me thinks.

@Archeus_Lore Again, never said Ukraine or the US were totally innocent, and I'm sure both are involved in dark profits of the sorts. That coup that happened back in 2014 in Ukraine went far beyond just Ukraine cozying up to NATO, as Russia's annexation of Crimea was criminal and they had no business doing that, and Russia's move there is what ultimately brought on the following coup.- https://www.history.co.uk/articles/putin-s-gamble-russia-s-2014-invasion-of-crimea Putin's invasion (again) of Ukraine earlier this year was a result of his longstanding grudge against the Ukrainian citizens, most of whom which desire to remain independent of Russia despite Russian Government propaganda trying to claim otherwise. As for all those corporations who bought up the land etc, yeah that makes sense as they probably had a good idea that Putin was going to soon attempt another aggressive move, which they would have been correct about. Not denying nazism is still a thing in some countries including ours, but regarding Ukraine specifically the question still remains just how big of a problem is nazism in that country? Any and all unbiased intel that I've observed would indicate that problem is minimal, and that the real reason why Putin invaded Ukraine was to takeover the country and absorb it back into the Russian Federation, which in turn would only increase Putin's own power stronghold and clout. One thing does remain quite clear... regardless of what you may think about NATO and the crimes they may have committed behind closed doors, it cannot be denied by any truly sane or rational person that the Russian Government is committing war crimes against Ukrainian civilians. There's enough evidence out there that documented Russian atrocities against civilians and civilian infrastructure, and I take issue with that even more than any petty crimes NATO may have committed. Putin is not some sort of martyr, he's a bloodthirsty tyrant. Zelensky is far from perfect or totally honest either, but at least he's not a homicidal maniac invading other countries.

What I do question though is just how serious a threat is nazism in Ukraine? 900-1,200 nazis is not exactly what I'd call a serious threat, so much that Russia had to invent an excuse in order to invade Ukraine. Also, if you distrust Ukrainian sources of intel then fair enough, but I'd also suggest not trusting in any Russian sources either, as the Russian Government is capable of lying just like any other Government out there. Please note my restraint on talking about neo-nazis operating in the Wagner Group, which is a Russian-based mercenary group, which would be a threat on par with the Azov nazi threat.

@Garban No, I meant Giffords actions were selfish compared to Scalise, the latter of whom realized that the true problem we face lies in human beings who have issues with varying addictions and those who get caught up in gangs that are violent-prone along with the current system failing too many kids by allowing them to just drop out of school on a whim. Quite different compared to Gifford's stance, being she is putting the blame on inanimate objects and not focusing on the direct problem, which in my opinion is akin to merely putting a bandage on the problem. Never meant you were selfish, and if I ever had any strong reason to believe that you were a selfish person I probably would ignore your posts and not comment on them like I still do. As for watching that documentary, while I won't totally rule out ever watching it, all the same I'm in no hurry as I've got a good idea as to what to expect to hear/see, and need I remind you that at one point I was on the side of more gun control, so I am quite familiar with their tactics and propaganda. Perhaps one time when I am out and about and have some spare time and there's WiFi access, I may look up that documentary on Hulu and download it to my android to watch later. Maybe... As for giving the kiddies and club goers a sporting chance... these maniacs who are randomly shooting up schools and bars and shopping malls are not sportsmen, they are cold-blooded killers with pretty much nothing else left to lose. They aren't hunting, they are on extermination sprees, to kill as many as possible, which serves a different albeit evil purpose than mere hunting. Besides, how would your laws limiting magazine capacity work with those who either circumvent the system by purchasing weapons on the black market or who 3D print their own magazines? Neverminding the fact of there being thousands of high capacity magazines already privately owned, and what would we do about those? Turn otherwise law abiding gun owners into criminals if they refuse to turn those magazines in? How would such a scenario honestly be considered any sort of genuine progress? As for safety classes/protocol etc, I'm not against teaching gun safety per se, but you'll need to be a bit more specific on that... are we talking just something like a safety class first in order to carry or something that has to do with passing laws on how every gun owner needs to handle their weapons in their own home etc? If safety is your concern there and that you wish for me to go along with all of that, fair enough, but if safety is the thing then I'm also going to stop fighting against invasive laws regarding abortion procedures too, as any medical procedure carries risk so if some politicians want to impose more safety measures such as waiting periods/hospital ...

@Garban Haha triggered, I see what you did there. Not triggered though Garban, not even close, more like baffled, baffled that anyone could be so clueless as to honestly believe that more laws is the longterm solution to the problem. Giffords was hardly the only politician who had ever suffered getting struck by a bullet(s), and I'm just curious... do you also feel sympathy for Scalise who was also seriously injured? Somehow I rather doubt it, because Scalise took a different course afterwards unlike Giffords, the latter of which took the opportunist path to exploit her own personal tragedy in order to advance her own personal agenda based on a vendetta. Sounds rather selfish to me. I really really would like the chance to get to ask in person someone like Giffords that if she truly believes more laws restricting or even banning abortion procedures would not curb every abortion then what on Earth would make her believe more laws restricting gun/gun accessory ownership would ever work? I'm sure any replies I'd receive from her would be asinine and incoherent. Yes I know they're gun owners... which makes their stance all the more contradicting. Sure would like the opportunity to ask Giffords what she would have thought of someone like my late friend Sgt Ashly Moyer who got killed in Iraq in 2007, killed in action defending every American's individual rights. Giffords survived her injuries no doubt due to excellent medical attention and coverage for politicians, while my friend was not nearly as fortunate having been horribly killed by a roadside bomb. I wonder what that must feel like going around exploiting a personal tragedy in an effort to curb certain other rights, while there are/have been many others out there who had paid the ultimate price in order to ensure that all American's rights are upheld. I'm not fooled by opportunist politicians like Giffords no more than I am by opportunist businessmen like Trump, and if you allow yourself to be swayed by the clever words of such opportunists then good for you I say. Someone who supports all of these gun control measures still needs to rationally and logically explain to me how they could simultaneously claim to be liberal, which all sounds like a blatant contradiction to me as there's nothing truly liberal about agreeing with such authoritarian measures. So far no one in this group had taken me up on that query, and gee whiz I wonder why that is? Could be because deep down inside they realize their ways on that matter are indeed authoritarian in nature and not liberal, but cannot bring themselves to say that much publicly though. I suspect in private a good number of the gun control activists know their cause is slanted and based largely upon how they feel emotionally, and their suggestions aren't...

None of them look too happy about this, the fish or the models. I wonder why? How many fired their manager after this career limiting exposure.

I consider AP a reliable source for just the reasons displayed here. They made a mistake and immediately corrected it. If humans are involved, mistakes will happen. Not all news sources have the integrity to own their mistakes, until they’re threatened with litigation. Legally AP can’t say ...
SpikeTalon replies on Nov 23, 2022:
That's the problem though, such sources do make mistakes and too many of the times they don't correct things and continue to push a chosen narrative regardless. That includes AP, and doesn't forgive any of that just because one time they actually did make things right. As for the integrity part goes, that appears to be a rarer thing to come across these days. That much is true for me regarding the skepticism part, when things like that occur can't help but be skeptical of the rest of them, and that includes the known right-leaning sources as well. While the AP tends to lean more to the left, I equally distrust a number of the known right-leaning sources too.

But of course they would, have to push their preferred narrative afterall...

@Garban That's what I thought, more bs propaganda from Putin, thanks. Ukraine kept their word on that much since the 1990s, Russia sure didn't though.

SpikeTalon replies on Nov 18, 2022:
@Garban Sure could be, I wouldn't put any sneaky tactic like that past Putin, knowing how he has a history of gaslighting and framing his political adversaries since his days working with the KGB. The Ukrainians better stay on their guard, as they've already been framed enough since Putin's invasion of their country back in February. While I got your attention here for a moment, wanted to ask you a question regarding the Ukraine/Russia conflict. On the sister site IDW was recently arguing with this one guy who babbled on something about Ukraine using "mini nukes" (his own words there) on Russian interests, and when I challenged him for evidence on that aside from the propaganda source SouthFront he freaked out on me and in not so many words suggested I was a fascist sympathizer for taking sides with Ukraine. Did you hear anything remotely close to such a claim? I sure didn't, and suspect that story was just more horseshit propaganda from SouthFront.
