Carl Edward Sagan was an icon for my generation with his breakthrough PBS special Cosmos in 1980 and was shown many times throughout the coming decades. He was definetly an influence on me as a planetary scientist, activist, humanist, communicator, teacher, and Pulitzer Prize winning author of many timeless books and a great novel Contact. My favorites are Pale Blue Dot, Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, Dragon's of Eden, and Cosmos.

Dick was an awesome scientist and teacher. He just didn't give a fuck what people thought of him and including other Physicist. I think he was like this after the early passing of his wife in the Manhatten Project days at Los Alamos.
