Given the size of Texas, over 268,000 sq miles, and its diverse population, a hair under 30,000,000, it is rediculous to paint all Texans with a broad brush. Austin is far more liberal than most of the places most of the people on this site live. If you think El Paso, Dallas, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Ft Worth, Houston, Austin, and Lubbock are the same , you need to get out more. In the last election every major city in Texas voted blue with the exception of Ft Worth, no surprise there. What Texas does have which is a problem nation wide is an urban/rural divide. Given the size of this state our rural area is bigger than most other states entire area. Hopefully Abbott's handling of the power grid, the pandemic, and now this ridiculous bounty on women will do him in next year.

It know over a million and still growing. The whole corridor between Austin and San Antonio is the fastest growing area in the country. There were chaplains in the military who had become atheist after seeing the horrors of Vietnam and continued in their jobs because, one it was all they new and liked the military, and two, they felt what they did was needed for those soldiers who did believe. I have also read about a group of priests and pastors who no longer believe but have done this so long they have no idea what else they can do. I knew a doctor a few years ago who didn't like being a doctor, and he was a really good doctor, who wised he had become a lawyer. By the time he figured this out he had too much time and money invested in med school to change career paths. My best friend and next door neighbor when l was in elementary school had a sister with polio. I remember going to his house and seeing her in an iron lung. I had a freind in high school who had been afflicted with polio. I hadn't known Leon Russell had had polio until we toured with him. While living in Taos we had a lead guitarist and close friend who had polio as a child. When he started having reacuring symptoms he jumped off the gorge bridge falling 600 feet to his desth. I am very aware of the scourge that is polio. I have lost one friend and an ex-brother in law to covid, and have another friend in the hospital with covid. The doctor doesn't think she will make it. I am very militant about people getting the vaccine and have eliminated people from my life who refuse to get the shots. They will not be let back in.
